I'm not from Chicago but I think they do have the best skyline in the world. Chicago is the birthplace of skyscrapers and the best buildings in most cities were designed by Chicago architects. Now if you guys up there could just put together something to beat that ugly Burj Khalifa everything would be right with the world. Chicago deserves to have the world's tallest building. By the way, the Burj Khalifa was designed by a Chicago architect.

I agree Anon, I have NO problem with NYC but i do have a very even view of all. I have lived in every city i posted about for over 2 years and Chicago for almost 30 by choice. Grant Park has the most beautiful views by almost every architecture critic in the world, Lincoln park is over 2 times the size of Central park and is much more and area to "Get away" from the concrete "Jungle" for the day. With all the Boat Docks,Yacht clubs, Golf Course, Biggest free zoo in the country.

The definition of "skyscraper" has changed over the decades as buildings get taller. There is no firm height definition; it even varies from city to city. Suffice to say Chicago has many skyscrapers.
A few other notable facts about city hall, till today, the tower is still the worlds tallest masonry structure without a steel frame! It also features a unique granite spiral stairway that ascends 6 floors without a central support. Due to it's massive foundation the city could not borough under to build the Subways, instead went around the building. By the time of it's completion in 1900, it was fully electrified and the original gas lit clock was electrically illuminated.
Chicago had the first early steel framed Skyscrapers, but not the nations first tall building! Philadelphia's City Hall tower held the title of tallest building in America till 1909. Original 1871 tower design Included: a clock, observation deck and topped with what is considered the largest statue atop any building world wide.

The second tallest skyscraper in the western hemisphere was constructed in the 1930s in new york. And the chrysler building? New york has 89754 times more older skyscrapers. I love Chicago. I'm from the east coast, but downtown Chicago is the best. It's clean, great restaurants, perfect arrangement and size of buildings, and the back-drop of Lake Michigan make it my favorite city. It's not as big as NYC, but that is why I like Chicago better. Don't get me wrong, being an east coaster, I like NYC, but Chicago is my favorite city.

Well, I have seen much more impressive photography of Chicago... but, Chicago's skyline is second to none. New York is impressive and more concentrated, but Chicago easily has the most elegant skyline of any city. Part of it is owed to the lakefront, which permits the classic skyline views, and don't forget better architecture. New York lacks style.

New York has Chicago beat on size, but Chicago clearly has greater aesthetic appeal. NY has the plateau effect in Midtown and that huge midtown/downtown gap.
Take out the CN Tower and Toronto would fall into the second tier with Los Angeles, Vancouver, Seattle. It can't be a contender with Chicago and New York with so much reliance on a single structure for its appeal and recognition.

I agree Anon, I have NO problem with NYC but i do have a very even view of all. I have lived in every city i posted about for over 2 years and Chicago for almost 30 by choice. Grant Park has the most beautiful views by almost every architecture critic in the world, Lincoln park is over 2 times the size of Central park and is much more and area to "Get away" from the concrete "Jungle" for the day. With all the Boat Docks,Yacht clubs, Golf Course, Biggest free zoo in the country.

The definition of "skyscraper" has changed over the decades as buildings get taller. There is no firm height definition; it even varies from city to city. Suffice to say Chicago has many skyscrapers.

A few other notable facts about city hall, till today, the tower is still the worlds tallest masonry structure without a steel frame! It also features a unique granite spiral stairway that ascends 6 floors without a central support. Due to it's massive foundation the city could not borough under to build the Subways, instead went around the building. By the time of it's completion in 1900, it was fully electrified and the original gas lit clock was electrically illuminated.

I love Chicago. I'm from the east coast, but downtown Chicago is the best. It's clean, great restaurants, perfect arrangement and size of buildings, and the back-drop of Lake Michigan make it my favorite city. It's not as big as NYC, but that is why I like Chicago better. Don't get me wrong, being an east coaster, I like NYC, but Chicago is my favorite city.

Well, I have seen much more impressive photography of Chicago... but, Chicago's skyline is second to none. New York is impressive and more concentrated, but Chicago easily has the most elegant skyline of any city. Part of it is owed to the lakefront, which permits the classic skyline views, and don't forget better architecture. New York lacks style.

Lived in NYC,LA,Houston,DC,Reno and many others and NONE come close to Chicago. Not only does Chicago have everything you can want at any age but with all the parks and 30 Miles of beautiful Waterfront and that awesome skyline you can be in a huge city 1 minute and Nature the next. I'm not going to say Toronto and New York have bad skylines, clearly they both have fantastic skylines.
New York has Chicago beat on size, but Chicago clearly has greater aesthetic appeal. NY has the plateau effect in Midtown and that huge midtown/downtown gap.
Take out the CN Tower and Toronto would fall into the second tier with Los Angeles, Vancouver, Seattle. It can't be a contender with Chicago and New York with so much reliance on a single structure for its appeal and recognition.

actually not true. NYC and TO are 1 and 2 in terms of number of skyscrapers. NYC has the most. Toronto actually has a few different skylines located in different parts (not just downtown) whereas Chitown has 1 cluster right in the downtown area. i would rank chicagos as one of the best though
