I'm hoping that the Singularity and virtual reality enable us to experience Rivendell in the flesh... the best would be to become elves ourselves. "man on the silver mountain" is awesome!
This is such a beatiful song. Rush has some way of reaching out to the fans and making that connections where you feel the song was written just for you. It is simply amazing. I am often away from home, and this song seems like it says all that I want to say, and all the feelings I feel. And every part of it is beautiful right until the end, extremely relaxing...almost a reflecting song.
I see Mtoto as a rip roaring Rainbow track, while the inimitable Shergar is more appropriately represented by the soothing tones of this delightful Rush track. I think Rainbow has spent more time in the Top 100, however.
@21shergar rainbow isnt rainbow without dio or the deep purple guy, they shouldve renamed the band IMO..and after dio left leaving stuff like man on the silver mountain fresh in the fans mind you would expect a similar style, but no stuff like since youve been gone became the sound which again IMO sounds closer to pop than what they were..but who cares this is RUSH \m/,
Good video. A beautiful, heartfelt song from the multi-talented Rush, one of the best bands ever. If you think Geddy Lee has a wonderful voice, check out his rock style and superb bass playing!
Thanks mdelair420 man all the kids in my school think am stupid not to like cock suckin n dubz but i feel so strongly about rush that i had a fight in school lol i kicked ass. lol anyway i wish they would go on tour again and merry christmas to u my friend a a happy new year !

@NaryaRingOfFire I totally agree. As you rate this as much as I do, please listen to Sally Oldfield's 'Waterbearer' - that is all about the 'Three Rings for the Elvenkings under the Sky' and is superb.
I've been wanting to see someone put this song to video for years. Superb job. Beautiful editing, with awesome transitions and nicely mirroring the lyrics.
Rush is as EPIC as J.R.R Tolkien , also my favorite things . I have not read any fiction novels since I was 15 and read the all of his books . and I got into RUsh the first time I saw them was '81 . I listen to this song often and it will always remind me of those books and the journey we took . I love Rush , always
Alex must have just bought that volume pedal in '75 because he uses the S HI T out of it on this song and the middle section of By-Tor. I always thought that those volume swells were what made this song sound like magic.
It wasn't politically correct. Just the same reason why Rush isn't as famous as it should. No one in the media supports Ayn Rands ideas, but Rush has a couple of songs dedicated to them. In general the media is ruled by a bunch of commies who are taking over.
I wouldn't go so far as to call Tolkien a noob because you like another author more. Lord of the Rings is the most read book in the history of the world second only to the bible. I would consider that fact a vote of confidence for Tolkien being the master.
Umm, that's because people in general prefer fantasy than to improve themselves and deal with the truth. Most people don't like and don't understand true freedom. Just take a look at "Freewill" based on Ayn. Practical wise Ayn Rand work is 1000 more useful for a person than anything related to LOTR. Being the most famous never indicates being the best, many times is the contrary.
I like both works but for me Ayn does tons more than Tolkien ever did. He's just entertainment.
neil is the lyricist and geddy and alex write the music if you look on the albums they all tell you this info, take care and keep rocking.oh yea this song is on fly by night, album

Was not Neil a big fan of Tolkien and LOTR. It fits the movie clips because the movie came from the book and LOTR has been out a long time.

What exactly does Enya have to do with LOTR?
Is she related to Tolkien by blood or marriage?
Did she write some part of the tale of the Hobbits?
Was she an influence to Tolkien when he wrote the 4 Hobbit books?
Did she write/record any tunes on the level of Rivendell before Rush?
Her claim to fame is the fact Jackson chose her to moan and groan for those that call it singing. The Celts must be starved for entertainment.
Kate Bush would have been a better choice.

Simple and subtle, yet Lifeson makes it sound epic.
