however hits by punching do not count as points except if you score a ko... so there are rare fighters who punch in competition.

no the punch has to ajar the body, you have to punch hard enough to displace the body thats why most don't punch....but punching at the right time will always throw your opponent off balance...punching is important. Its just said most don't use it in wtf sparring

right from day 1 u learn punches (ITF)

in the sport WTF taekwondo punches r not alllowed but this is just a sport not a martial art.

ITF (real imo) TKD has lots of hand techinques ^^
