It penetrates but tumbles too quickly and loses a lot of its energy / lethality.

It has better penetration (just like a 9mm has more penetration than a .45) so it would pass lvl2 protection (which is no match for lvl 3 or standard rifle protection)

the bullet was designed to replace the 9mm for NATO as a pistol cartridge. It's underpowered so it can fit in a handgun magazine like the five-seven.

I love how you guys are playing on the fear that assault rifles will be ban. Do you guys even know what an assault rifle is? Definition: An assault rifle is a rifle designed for combat, with selective fire (capable of shooting in both fully automatic & semi automatic modes).

Cali restrictions doesn't really fit with the banning of Assault rifles since they restict all mags, except .22 caliber tube capacity.

Anyways you think the Gov is really going to ban your "assault rifle" and come collect them all? They would probably be grand fathered into a law like machine guns were.

Not exactly - The term originated near the end of World War 2 with the Sturmgewehr 44, which means "Storm Rifle" or, "Assault Rifle". The term is a misnomer as, any rifle can be an "assault" rifle. Good show, but I still believe that the 5.7 solves a problem that nobody has. It certainly won't fill the role of a 5.56, and it's not economical enough to use in place of a .22WMR, which is about where it's at in power.

Agreed, it was designed for the p90 to fit a short sub machine gun that could penetrate body armor. For mil/LEO weapon, I think it serves it's role, but us civilians, not so much.
