Dennis de Young is one good example of a talented singer who avoided excessive drinking partying smoking etc. Not the best like a Steve Perry or Ian Gillan but very excellent. Great tone and intonation.

Have you ever actually been to a Styx show without Dennis? Just compare the two- Watch the videos of them when he was still there. He controls the show- not one step out of line. The shows now are more spontaneous, and you can see the love those guys have for what they're doing.
Now, I'm not putting down Dennis at all- He is phenomenal, and him and his songs have a place in my and every other Styx fan's heart, but just listen to the music- Cyclorama is the best Styx album since Paradise Theatre

I mean if you hate Styx, then you hate REO speedwagon... and Def Lepard... bands like that. They were icons of their time. Oh, and he wasn't fired because of his music, he was fired after he found out he was sick and the guys didn't want to wait for him to get better.
He suffered from a viral infection that affected the nerves in his face, making him very sensative to light. The band didn't wait for him to get better. In my opinion, bad move. Cuz they suck now. The only positive thing you ever hear about them is that they're playing with REO and DEF LEPARD. Those are the only 2 bands they've been able to tour with.
I'll say it again. It is just terrible. Styx sucks and if you want proof that this is just terrible, listen to what he says about his music writing process. Absolutely terrible.

This is crazy comparing Gowan and Deyoung. Paul Rodgers is a great singer, but I wouldn't compare him to Freddie Mercury. To different guys. Even DeYoung has admitted Gowan is good. He was a fan of his before he joined Styx. Gowan does a great job. I have seen him twice with Styx. It is hard to replace such a strong talent like DeYoung. Gowan kicks but on teh keyboards, but the songwriting has suffered, in my opinion.
They should compromise and co-operate just like Sesame Street has ALWAYS taught us as little kids. I have a GREAT Idea, eh..
why doesn't Dennis JUST produce Styx, and let the "Rockers" go on tour. That way the music DOESN'T suffer.. we get the "original" Styx back.. and the "kids" can relate to the "blonde rockers" more so than a grey haired sixty year old man for a rock concert.
