full RP. There're often tournament but most guilds are peaceful. But we also had a first war between criminal guilds and normal ones. PvP is not required but possible.

yeah it has been in development for a long time and I doubt it will ever get to "final" version. However it's still quite impressive to see what those developpers were able to create. They do their work entirely free as a hobby-project, so you can't expect them to be able to create a game that can compete with a commercial company.

If you know how much work is behind such a project it's already amazing what they have achieve... wheter you like the game in the end is personal preference.

Despite the possibility that mounts could be done properly, anyone who has been online fantasy RPG playing for any length of time knows that the introduction of mounts was 'jumping the shark.' They are overrated and have only been introduced to excite players without adding creative and intelligent content. "Poof" and you get a horsey? Give me a break... I won't be impressed until I see 'parkable' mounts that hold equipment and begin as mules before purchase of a _functional_ warhorse.

Appart from that Planeshift has stuff other games don't have, like the fact that you can drop every item on the ground everywhere (there's even furniture) and true guildhousing.

PlaneShift ist quite cool for it's social interaction, it's pretty unique.. however it's not that big and doesn't have a lot of polished content like for exmple WoW or Lotro... but since it's free you can try it out without risk :)

I say again, PS is a free game developed by everyone who want to join the crew. It's more the fascination of creating an own world together. Also the players take influence on the world and histories. PS lives by selfmade RP events, characters and playing, WoW is nothing more than an expensive runaanddoquestsandskill your char game, perfectly made,sure but nothing for traditional roleplayers. So, you can't compare them.

With no mounts or teleports, sometimes people would CHOOSE to die just to get from one end of the extremely linear world to the other. The whole world was basically a single string of maps poorly glued together from BD through to Ojaveda with the only deviation being to the Laanx dungeon or the Winch. When you're climbing to the top of Brado's out of boredom.. you know the game is an epic failure.

Biggest challenge of DR was turning gamma up so you can see where the path is. You couldn't even JUMP with your chars, there was no specialization of classes so everyone could do all the same weapon skills, magic, etc. So no teamwork or thought of group contruction was needed. Last time I played, Ulbernauts were the biggest challenge and you could solo those. The gameplay itself sucked big-time and the developers ACTIVELY made changes to remove any skill element from battles. Nuff said?!

I played this, Regnum and WoW. Planeshift was a failed attempt at a commercial project, after the initial failure Luca decided to go GPL. The engine either sucked or was poorly used, the graphics suck and the community throws a pissy fit if you say or do anything "ooc" because all there is to the game is chatting to people and making up RP stories because the game itself lacks substance - PS 2/10 .. Regnum 6/10 .. WoW 10/10 .. Wish I played WoW first, "plainshit" sucked!! ;D

PS' first of all is a developer game. It's free.

It's main goal is Role Playing, not too dynamic, but not in any means boring. It's still not too user friendly as for the server lag, quite a bit of bugs and tuff controling.

It's for mature players, you won't find any kids there as they'll resign after a day or two.

Very fun to play if you're not a WoW/GW type of MMO beeing. It's a true RP game.

no, its right. Its a opensource free game in development pre-alpha phase, so its growing unregulary and not all races nor abilities are working yet fully. The trailer shows only playable contents.
