  • how and where can I get this song? Someone please help me out w/ this

  • Seems like I read somewhere that this tune is called "Danny Blue" and Don Johnson is the co-author.

  • @plesiosaur969 Don Johnson the actor?

  • @EnhancedImagination Yes Don Johnson the actor. He and Dickey are good friends and have written many songs together.Dickey played guitar on Don Johnson's album too.

  • danny blue boy,,,,that was my boys nickname ,,,,all credit to this song,,RIP.......BXNYC

  • thank you so much for sharing this gem!

  • is that scooter herring sitting behind the guitarist ?

  • e-mail from greg your fired

  • DIVAD8 IS THE FUCKING MAN/WOMEN

  • Yes!! Would have been amazing to be in that room

  • Thumbs up if thats some of the best ham boning you have ever seen.

  • The song is called Danny Blue :) And goddamnit it's hard to find.

  • That is what being a traveling band is all about - hanging with the boys having fun at 3 in the morning. I bet those are the fondest memories of all those guys.

  • Wie obergeil ist das denn!

  • The song isn't called Danny Blue? Sounds a lot like an Eagles song

  • great pick up tune

  • if you gave a down thumb, F you dipshit.

  • It doesn't get better then Dickey Betts ham boning!

  • Sucks being 22 and growing up around this music because your dad plays guitar and you knew nothing as akid but the allman bros, bb king, stones, springsteen, etc. Trying to relate to kids my age... shit lol. So hard. There loss tho. And man look at Dickey, he can't sit still he wants to play that old box sooo bad lol

  • this is when it is real

  • dickey betts has so much soul in his playing and his singing

  • Danny Blue....................

  • sultan, I believe that is Dangerous Dan Toler on guitar who was with the Brothers for a time and now plays with Dickey in Great Southern. If I am wrong, please correct me.

  • @PackfaninTx You are wrong. Dan Toler now plays for The Cars.

  • @medog2020 "PackfaninTx" (PT) gave a 2-part answer: Part 1) PT is correct that the guitarist "sultan1530" asked about is Dan Toler. [Part 2) Whether Dan Toler went to the Cars I don't know.] Lastly, "cito4633" is in error about "sultan1530" 's guitarist being Mike Lawler. Lawler (balding) played keyboards and synthesizer on stage. But to make it more confusing, the guy playing acoustic in the hotel room with Betts is also Lawler, who obviously dabbled in guitar, too.

  • yeah know... whenever I'm feeling down and out - and I been driving and working around this strip-mall we now know as America ( land that I still love ) I have come back here, so... so many times, to this video, to this time. It "keeps me" thanks divad8

  • Who is on the guitar, Dwane? I'm pretty sure it's not but if someone can confirm i'd appreciate it. Thanks.

  • @sultan1530

    Mike Lawler

  • @cito4633 OK I'm very sorry - I just totally screwed things up with my answers re: "cito4633", "sultan1530" and "PackfaninTx" The answers depend on whether we are talking about the guitarist in the hotel room with Betts, or who performed on stage with Betts in these concerts. On stage guitarist = Toler, in hotel room = Lawler. Sorry. (...Remove head from ass....)

  • druncken rednecks cant get better than this

    dickey betts is the man

allman brothers band rule the south

  • Dickey rules! indeed LIVING LEGEND

  • Dickey rules!

  • Ragges to Riches. I tink

  • Damn, to have that much talent. Dickey, it ain't fair man!!!! Thank god for Dickey Betts a true American Legend. Greg, if you're reading this, get Dickey back in the Allman's and do a reunion tour. WE NEED SOME ORIGINAL ALLMAN BROTHERS!!!

  • unfair ......singing like that and playing the guitar he does....our Dickey...

  • I love it, great video

  • Awesome singing and, playing. just a very enjoyable video guys.WooooooHoooooo!!!! WTG!!!!

  • Dan Tolers hair (at the end of clip) is unbelievable...

  • BETTS

  • the last guy with the acoustic looks like allan covert, the main actor from Grandma's Boy.

  • He's doin the hambone man

  • looks like he is dying to play the guitar

  • now thats a fuckin country boy right there lol

  • that little clap thing that dickey does towards the end is weird. it looks like he doesnt know how to sit still.

  • Agreed a real treasure

  • Awesome!!! Very singing and song:)

    Grandma mary

  • I love his mustach

  • The name of the song is "Danny Blue" and it's rather unforgettable. I never forgot it from the first time watching the "Brothers of the Road" concert via VHS, back in the day of the mid-1980s. Enjoy.

  • its standard tuning :P

  • The song Is called I believe Danny Blues

  • what is the tuning?

  • @whoareyou342 Drop C tuning.

  • It doesn't sound like standard tuning at all.

  • look how gotdamn young Dickie is!!!!

  • Haha thanks for posting this. This is great.

  • dickey's always liked his alcohol huh?

    LOL

  • There is a part on this video when Dickey had just written the song "Let It Ride" Dickey does a great acoustic solo.

Does anyone have that part of this night.

I know its out there. Thanks

  • Man.. the hair on the back of my neck stands up every time I watch this vid... just some good ol' boys sitting around the hotel room jammin' after the show. Pure music from the soul.. don't know why this song stirs my emotions so much, but it does..

  • @DixieRected This when real men were musicians, not these drag-queen fruits.

  • Amen to that, brother! Nowadays its all about how sad and depressed the singer is, with his eyeliner and Hot Topic hair. Hell.. if they were to catch a group today sitting around a hotel room they would probably have to draw up a contract and have a laser show before they would "perform"... I will stick with the classic rock when they jammed for the sake of the music.

  • I don't why people equate music or other the arts to being gay? Dickie Betts was as true a musician as could be and a true guy. Even the best painters were not gay; Picasso, Renoir and Jackson Pollock were all straight. I am sick of these cross-dressing geeks. Not just because they look ridiculous, but because their music sucks. I would like to see these posers try to play guitar like Dickie - good luck!

  • @DixieRected I agree so much, those people you described of today don't even compare to the great musicians back in the day. What the heck happened to good music.

  • @DixieRected The majority of music that people like Dicky Betts learned from is about being depressed.

  • @whoareyou342 Right.. classic blues.. not whiny emo crybabies that permeate the airwaves today. Classic blues players crooned about broken hearts, alcoholism and drug addiction... not how sad it is living in the suburbs with a Prozac family. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that classic bluesmen had a reason to be blue.. nowadays its about eyeliner and wrist cutting and tight jeans. Big difference. Sorry.. living in a 300K house and whining about life isn't the same.

  • @DixieRected So on target, it's unbelievable!

  • awesome video.

to have been in that room.

  • the songe is danny blue boy

  • anyone know the name of this song?

  • best rock rand ever

  • I love that clip w/ Dickey "ham bonin'"

  • greatest song ever. played by the best

  • gots to love the ham boning at the end!

  • Apples and oranges... Dickey was as big a part of the ABB as Duane was.. yeah I said it. To say otherwise is to deny the truth. Without Dickey we wouldn't have Jessica, Blue Sky, Ramblin' Man.. like most groups out there, egos and drugs take their toll, but you cannot say the music they made together is anything but amazing. Hell.. the ABB was in their prime some 35 years ago and yet here we still are today admiring them. I love Duane as much as anyone, but Betts was a foundation of the ABB too.

  • @DixieRected Not to sure I agree with you sorry man, Ramblin Man, and Jessica are def. towards the bottom of my allman brothers playlist

  • Dickey Betts is a real American treasure and lucky for us, a living legend

  • This is great stuff!!! The Allman Bros. aren't the same without Dickey. I wish his band would come down to southeast Texas, he would sell out!!!! Dickey Betts is a true musician, hands down. Not only that, his personality reminds me of a lot of guys that i've worked with in the past. Just good people.

  • @jkshackelford

Totally agree. The show with without him is like a jazz improv session, no longer rocks out like when they had Dickey.

  • THANK YOU!

  • did dickey get kicked out or did he quit?........love the allmans.....but its not the same without dickey

  • got kicked out because he drank too much thats what i heard man

  • great musician but a drunken dick!

  • The guitarist is Dan Toler.

  • that's not dan toler. his name is name is mike lawler and played keybords with the allman in early 80s.

    dickey is the best btw

  • @onbeerband I thought it was Chuck Leavell

  • what ever happened to dickie betts?

  • He's with a band called "Great Southern." See them if you get a chance.

  • Pity Dicky wasn't accompanying himself on guitar, he wouldn't have made any mistakes.

  • Dickie is a true guitarist and true musician. Everything he did had great melody - the whole point of music. I don't know why kids all want to play that highly technical stuff. Guys like Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen don't understand melody. They just memorize scales and arpeggios and go as fast as they can, that is not music. Dickie was also knowledgable about the technical aspect as well, but he knew how to make a good song with his knowledge, that is what makes him great.

  • i know wat u mean and i am going to see Dickey betts tommarow at a concert

  • I believe the guitarist is Jerry Lawler

  • Is this the only version w/ Dickey?

I'm not aware of anything recorded.....

  • Who is the guitar player? Does anyone know?

  • I hear ya, but no Duane or Dickey Betts = No Allman Bros.

  • It is Dickie but no Duayne, as the title indicated, real music is best at the table tho

  • Danny blue

  • "This is the craziest song in the world." I love Dickey!

  • fantastic

  • hard not to hear a stiff walking base line and some percussion sneak it's way in this humdinger

  • Dickey played my venue last Saturday. He is still the man. Great to meet his son, Duane and watch him follow in his dad's footprints. Nice kid, too. Haven't been able to see the ABB since Dickey left, until I saw a show at their last Beacon run in March. I felt like a trader, and wont go again. I read the Rolling Stone top 100 guitarist list from 2003 online this week and when I saw Warren listed higher than Dickey I decided to never read that rag again.

  • 10:4 to that, man. Allman Brothers ended since Dickey's left the band. They turned into a has-been great rock band. I've been given a DVD of ABB playing in Beacon Theatre without Dickey - I turned it off after first song. Dickey was the soul, heart and visit card of the band - without him Allman Brothers Band are just a cover-band IMO.

  • That list should be banished from the earth its so whacked out. So many guitarists not even on the list and many that did not deserve to be anywhere near that list like kirk Cobain he was good but above Dickey Betts ridiculous

  • Pass whatever you're smokin'...

  • my brother brought me to see the Allmans again last night. Said if anything just go to see derek trucks....I went, and still love those tunes still love Mountain Jam, and thought they did it well. I saw the junky bastard reply to my comment about dickey and thought " well, wasn't that what it was about? getting buzzed, jamming out?" I mean Dickey has made some mistakes, but hasn't greg allman? I think we are all too judgemental...life on the road is hard, people make mistakes. Dickey still rocks

  • This is GREAT!

  • Who is playing the guitar?

  • amazing talent in this room...in large doses...

  • Danny Blue its an old song I heard my dads friends sing...not mentioning their names . look in old western music lyrics.

  • big alcoholic and basically started pulling the band apart cuz of his big problem

  • it's stuff like that, makes me miss dickey. I do understand why they tossed him, did most of the summer tour that year

  • I don't understand why they tossed him, but then I don't know the story either. I'm just aware of the fact they did. Wanna bring me up to speed? The band's not the same w/o out him.

  • Go Dickey! The Best AAB Guitarist 2nd to Duane! I wish he still palyed w/ ABB

  • The names of the songs are "Danny Blue" & "The Preacher"

    DICKEY IS THE MAN!!!!!

  • nuf sed bro

  • this is so cool...i'm lucky enough to get to see dickey at the chance in poughkeepsie, ny on june 12th...wonder what he's performing now???

  • wonderful...

  • anybody out there know who the guy is sitting behind Dickie? Looks like Gary -not sure.

  • betts is the BEST in the business. this man IS the music .

  • amen

  • You got that right!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • he sings alot of the songs

  • Yes! Dickey is Stellar!

  • I LOVE "DANNY BLUE BOY!" Thank You Dickey Betts & THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND!

  • the guitar player looks so fucked

  • That's Mike Lawler the infamous Keytar man. Besides the keytar I thought he was pretty good.

  • awesome video....... love to see musicians just playing for fun

  • the name is danny blue

  • Comment removed

  • i think dickey did a fine job on ramblin man and blue sky

  • I like the fact that it shows that even the best can mess up sometimes. Good clip. nice find

  • "Daddy Blue?"

  • danny blue

  • U da man...

  • Yeah um excuse me fellas, this is Norm the motel night manager. Due to several noise complaints, we are going to have to ask you all to keep it down. Has someone been smoking in this non-smoking room? Sir...

  • Real funny dipshit.

  • Love it

  • yea dickie ham bonin!

  • danny blue boy.

  • one of the reason music is life and life is music. great song

  • Just saw Dickey Betts at a private concert tonight. It was great

  • you are a lucky person; I'm assuming that was his 65th Birthday bash. There is a lot of speculation going on now about whether Dickey will rejoin the ABB for a 40th Anniversary show. I hope they ask him, and I hope he does.

  • ya it was his birthday. he was great

  • I love to watch young Dickey's enthusiasm for good song and good cheer.

  • yeah he does play a STANDARD G chord and D chord i saw that too LOL Anyhow, When was this filmed??

  • whatever I ain't gonna argue over somethign so stupid as his fuckn guitar tuuning LOL so friggn petty people are lol.... WHO CARES!?!? Its the MUSIC that counts! lol God help us all :-)

  • considering this is easily played in standard...lol..yeah pretty trivial to debate.

  • no drop d lol its standard tuned from a 18+ year ACTIVE guitar player lol

  • I dont believe you. Its open D tuned half a step down.

  • hahaa, yeees, it must be that, finally making sense now :))

  • standard tuning

  • Open E.

  • its standard u can see him playing c and g chords in the beginning

  • Open G.

  • what are you smoking? you can clearly see he plays standard Tuning G chord and D chord in this song.

  • I know its standard tuning. I thought it was funny people were asking for what tuning it is was when it is pretty damn obvious looking at the cords he is playing.

  • hahaha ok...I was going to say there is like 3 visible chords that you can see clearly.

  • Gotta love Michael Lawler

  • Great song. Does anyone know the tuning?

  • Drop D.

  • I know it has been asked a thousand times here, but what is one more? Is this a Dickie original or is this some obscure country song that only someone like Dickie would know the source of?

  • the song is called "Danny Blue" you gotta go out and get the allman brothers dvd called Brothers of the Road, its awesome. its 2 different concerts plus this extra hotel jam footage. and an early recording of gregg playing "Come and Go blues" how it was originally written.

  • Was Come & Go Blue a Bocephus song? He did an awesome version of it if wasn't his.

  • Randall hank made a career of re doing Southern Rock classics and not making it known that it was someone elses song. His best selling LP was HANK LIVE and he does 4 SKYNyRD and never gives Ronnie VAN ZANT credit

  • I Love these guys! Thanks for the reminder

  • DICKEY RULES

  • DICKEY YOUR GRET

    ]

  • whats the name of this song

  • good stuff!!!!!

  • Also an F and not E i meant Em.

  • I like this song wish I knew the name of it. I wanna learn it. Only 5 or 6 chords I think

    G,C,D,A7/Am,E,

  • I've tried finding it to,nothing...

Its gotta be Danny Blue Boy?

  • This is from the Brothers of the Road video that came out in 1982. Dickey and Dangerous Dan do a duet called The Preacher right after this tune that's even better.

  • I've been trying to figure out the name of that tune - the Preacher - for a REALLY long time. Thanks a lot, brother. By the way, who's the artist?

  • I like the song but I can make out many words. Does anybody know the lyrics?

  • What a' treat.....

  • This song was written by Benjamin Disraeli, Great Britain's first Jewish Prime Minister and originator of the famous 'two nations' interpretation of Victorian society. He also was an avid bluesman and penned several numbers, many of which we now consider standards of the rythm and blues/country canon. Of course, the arrangement is a little different and the lyrics have changed significantly, but in essence it's the same song.
