Broiler is in your oven. Its the top heating coils. It's basically like a big toaster really. You put things on a flat open cookie sheet type dish and set it on the top rack of the oven to cook.

I used to.. a new kitchen had much higher working surfaces. You no longer bend down over the surfaces. The work surface is at his belt level... is yours? That could be the problem.
