  • A bit of trivia. Lawerane Welk's personalized liscense plate was " A1NA2 ". Just think on it a second, heh. True story.

  • Lawrence Welk was the most successful

leader of all the big band era bands.

My dad loved him. It was his favorite show to

drink and pass out in front of.

    Tx 4 the post.

  • Jack Martin was born in Nelsonville, Ohio on March 11, 1916. He died in Los Angeles on January 30, 1981.

He also played for the Chuck Foster Band. His hobby was woodworking and had 2 children, Jack Jr and Jill.

  • Jack Martin was really a master of the soprano sax...what a fine lead he provides on this number!

  • Did you notice that Jack Martin is playing an acrylic (plexiglass) alto at the 1:23 mark. It is a GRAFTON made by John E Dallas London EC2. They are now expensive collectors item as they discontinued making them around 1968 when they went bankrupt. Anyone know if Jack is still around? Lee Mason

  • Wow...I wondered what that thing was! Looks like something is stuck in the bell or is that an optical illusion! Jack passed sometime in the 70s...he shows up on many fine Kay Kayser records in the early 40s, often on soprano lead and/or vocal. You should also check him out with Bob Lido and Aladdin on the Welk video of See You Later Alligator..he was a real entertainer as well as being a great musician.

  • Hi Teebeesea: Thanks for the information. Best regards Leebm29 at yho
