i just have one question - i read that these dogs cannot be let off the leash at all, unfenced because of 'high prey drive'. i thought this breed was perfect for my moms country home, until i heard that...

but now i dont know..

that would be a pretty big deal if it could never prance around the front lawn, without casing an animal deep into the woods, or running far away, unable to be called back.

what do you think? please help

They most definitely CAN be kept in an apartment. I've had my girl for about 6 years and she's done just fine in my apartment home. As long as they get adequate exercise there's no reason these dogs can't be kept in an apartment. The point is these dogs are for everyone. Meet one and you'll see what everyone is talking about.

I had my greyound for 3 year in my apartment- all they want is a couch to sleep on! You will need to exercise him/her well, but it's doable in an apartment. they are the BEST dogs...i lost my girl in June and miss her!

No, dipshit. They cannot be kept in an appartment. No dog of medium or larger size can be in an appartment, especially not a greyhound. That's like having a great dane, it needs space.

@setustraight Actually, provided that the dog is getting adequate exercise, a greyhound can most definitely be kept in an apartment - as can a Great Dane, which is a relatively low-energy dog. I wouldn't recommend them for a studio apartment in Manhattan (or anywhere, for that matter), but otherwise there's no problem with keeping a greyhound - or Great Dane, and most certainly no problem keeping a medium-sized dog - in an adequately-sized apartment.

THese animals are beautiful and so appreciative of a home. THey come looking pretty bad, thin, no hair on their back legs because they have lived in a small cage, scars. It takes awhile for them to trust you because of their horrible past, but each new thing is a treat for them, and you know every day how happy they are in their new life. Adopt a greyhound - outlaw greyhound racing. The adoption agencies don't tel you how bad they are treated so they can save the dogs, most areput down.

@esgranny Their hair loss is actually genetic. It has to do with the muscles being so hot and need to cool down. Some greyhounds have a lot of baldness like mine. and others have none. Mine is bald on his butt, his stomach, and under his neck. It's like why a chinese crested is bald. It has nothing to do with cage size or neglect. My boy came from a good kennel, another dog however was abandoned. racing is like any dog ownership. Some truly love their animals, and others don't.
