As much as I liked Pontiac, the Trans Am and G8, in my opinion were the only good cars that Pontiac had. They were not going to keep Pontiac just for 2 cars.

GMC just has way way too many sub companies. Cut all of the sub companies and merge to all GM. Keep all the good cars in each of the sub companies and you'll be left with the 10% that are good selling cars.

I kno hindsight is 20/20 but these guys were wrong about almost everything, the camaro outsold the mustang and the srx outsold the Lexus crossovers as well. Malibu made gains on the outdated camry and escalade sales were up too. Plus comparing a genesis coupe to a camaro is ridiculous as well as suggesting the escalade become a sedan
GM is spread way too thin. Americans don't necessarily want more choice, they want reliable cars like the Camry. Cookie cutter, yes, but you know what you are getting and you want it. The Camry has a great options, that are reliable, for a good price. That is what GM needs. GM makes some good cars, they just pollute the waters with all the rest of the crap they put out.
@L571J What i would like to see is cadillac REALLy competeting. Cars like rolls, bentley, and maybach. I know it's a little far fetched but look at the sixteen. That thing was meant to compete with the full size boats that these other super luxury companies were making. If cadillac could someday compete in that market, buick would be able to compete with bmw/audi/lexus etc. Then chevy would have it's place as the mainstream. GMC = pure trucks and opel/holden = international. They're set.
That is not to say Buick is not a great car, it is. They just can't have all three work well. It's just like Ford, Mercury, Lincoln. They need to kill Mercury. The key is to streamline the process and focus on having a few good models. Look at Toyota, the focus like a laser on 4 cars(corolla, Camry, Lexus IS, Lexus LS) and a truck (Tundra). GM should do the same with the Cobalt, Malibu, CTS, (please replace the DTS with something that is even halfway decent), and the Silverado.
I don't think Buick fits well. It should be just Chevy and Cadillac. Why? Where the hell does the Buick fit? You can't price it between the two very well, which means it competes with either or both. The solution is to make Chevy awesome by targeting Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai. That means taking it upscale (closer to Buick) with better handling and a price on par with Toyota. Cadillac then becomes the luxury marque. Nice, expensive, fast, and NOT FOR THE ELDERLY. Kill all the rest of the crap.

I think American car makers in general should pay attention to details more and use better quality parts. i am a BMW M3 lover and love to have a Corvvet as wel but that loose back bumper and cheap plastic interior holds me back.

@bobrec3GTI Lithium batteries are 80% recyclable, the rest is harmless. Battery technology is also advancing very quickly and we are likely to see EVs with ranges the either match or exceed that of ICE vehicles within the next 10 years, along with batteries that are more environmentally friendly.
You're obviously completely ignorant of EV technology, or you wouldn't say half of the things you've said here. EVs require VERY little maintenance, no oil changes (huge amounts of toxic waste), no air filters, no fuel filters, no oil filters, no timing belts, no adjustments, no spark plugs and no (very) toxic antifreeze in most applications.
EVs are also much less complex (mechanically) than ICE vehicles with only one moving part in the motor and a simple gear reduction between the wheels and the motor. That means no complex (and potentially unreliable) and expensive multi-speed transmission and no engine (which relies on hundreds of precision components) to wear out.
Because of their simplicity EVs will easily last millions of miles with minimal wear. EVs are also smoother, quieter, cleaner and MUCH more efficient than ICEs AND...we can get power for EVs from ANYWHERE. There are people that charge their cars with solar panels mounted on their roof, no fuel, no emissions.

And you're totally wrong about torque from an EV, electric motors have torque curves that could never be matched by an ICE. Also, the Tesla Roaster is every bit as fast as the new Camaro SS, that's not really a slow car.

The base price for the 2010 "retro" Camaro is 31K. I just found a restored 1967 Camaro SS for 26K. So if you're going to spend $30,000 on a "retro" car, why not just go for the cheaper, much more attractive original?

Well the economy is pretty irrelevant. The point is, you can buy a completely restored Camaro for a cheaper price than the huge, ugly behemoth they call the Camaro today with the same basic fuel efficiency. There's no justification for this new "Camaro". GM are just your standard rate corporate whores trying to keep up by ruining a classic.
Just because it's newer, does not mean it's better. The 2010 Camaro is the best example of that.
Every car company has overpriced vehicles. But I don't see how a 22,000 base price is overpriced for a muscle car these days. SUV's cost twice as much. Same with most sedans. I'd spend 20K for 305 stock hp with a 5 speed manual transmission. Not to mention the Mustang, in my opinion, is the best looking muscle car on the market today, and it keeps to it's roots with it's looks. Plus it can beat the hell out of a Camaro, which looks nothing like the classic predecessor.
@WYTEMINORITY What do you mean without the Corvette? GMC only produces trucks, so the only copies are the trucks and SUV's. Hummer isn't needed, they're gas guzzlers and there's much better alternatives to them. Pontiac is gone, and for good reason. Pontiac had a very weak lineup of cars and needed to die off. As for Buick and Cadillac I think they both have excellent track records and should be kept, although 2 luxury sedan brands may not be needed.

You're obviously completely ignorant of EV technology, or you wouldn't say half of the things you've said here. EVs require VERY little maintenance, no oil changes (huge amounts of toxic waste), no air filters, no fuel filters, no oil filters, no timing belts, no adjustments, no spark plugs and no (very) toxic antifreeze in most applications.

EVs are also much less complex (mechanically) than ICE vehicles with only one moving part in the motor and a simple gear reduction between the wheels and the motor. That means no complex (and potentially unreliable) and expensive multi-speed transmission and no engine (which relies on hundreds of precision components) to wear out.

Because of their simplicity EVs will easily last millions of miles with minimal wear. EVs are also smoother, quieter, cleaner and MUCH more efficient than ICEs AND...we can get power for EVs from ANYWHERE. And you're totally wrong about torque from an EV, electric motors have torque curves that could never be matched by an ICE. Also, the Tesla Roaster is every bit as fast as the new Camaro SS, that's not really a slow car.

I feel like people who drive hybrids are greatly misinformed considering you can get a much higher-performance car like the Jetta TDI (turbo diesel) which can give out 170 hp and over 50 mpg with just a factory reflash of the computer.. without the program you get 140 hp with 44 mpg what does a hybrid get? about 45 mpg with like what 80 horsepower?? Oh and, the Prius is rated at 51/48 city/hwy mpg, makes 134 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and it even managed to get 66 mpg in an R&T comparison test. Also, diesels aren't nearly as clean as gasoline engines, they even produce more CO2 per gallon. Diesels blow.

First off, Mustangs aren't shit. Secondly, besides the fact the Camaro is hideous, the handling is just terrible. Especially the Hennessey. Why have that much power when you can't really go anywhere with it? Not to mention the visibility in the Camaro is a joke.
The base price for the 2010 "retro" Camaro is 31K. I just found a restored 1967 Camaro SS for 26K. So if you're going to spend $30,000 on a "retro" car, why not just go for the cheaper, much more attractive original?

Well the economy is pretty irrelevant. The point is, you can buy a completely restored Camaro for a cheaper price than the huge, ugly behemoth they call the Camaro today with the same basic fuel efficiency. There's no justification for this new "Camaro". GM are just your standard rate corporate whores trying to keep up by ruining a classic.
Just because it's newer, does not mean it's better. The 2010 Camaro is the best example of that.

Every car company has overpriced vehicles. But I don't see how a 22,000 base price is overpriced for a muscle car these days. SUV's cost twice as much. Same with most sedans. I'd spend 20K for 305 stock hp with a 5 speed manual transmission. Not to mention the Mustang, in my opinion, is the best looking muscle car on the market today, and it keeps to it's roots with it's looks. Plus it can beat the hell out of a Camaro, which looks nothing like the classic predecessor.

@WYTEMINORITY What do you mean without the Corvette? GMC only produces trucks, so the only copies are the trucks and SUV's. Hummer isn't needed, they're gas guzzlers and there's much better alternatives to them. Pontiac is gone, and for good reason. Pontiac had a very weak lineup of cars and needed to die off. As for Buick and Cadillac I think they both have excellent track records and should be kept, although 2 luxury sedan brands may not be needed.

I have a 'burban with the 8.1. This whole thing was good gm. For goodness sake the camaro was sold out before they event came out. That probably outsold the mustang by 2 'bout 2 months in the first week. This guy was probably hired from the Ford Crapper Co. to say bad GM to about everything.
