IS200 is awesome car. But got damn it was expensive when it was new. In my country, full equiped IS200 cost like fully equiped Merc E class with better engine.
Oh my god I love these cars! my boyfriend had a sport one! They are amazing to drive...once the roads arent slippy, then the rwd starts to get aggravating, & they are quite hard on petrol aswel! :D apart from that they are amazing!!! I love them!

Test drove one of these today, it was a 2001 model. and oh my god. this car is very nice. loverly seats, very comfortable.. good handling, good sound... although for a 2.0 straight 6 it didnt have much ooomph... but it was still a very good car..
@SSc0ut mine was the manual.. it was nice but fuel is apauling for the performance it gives... amazing car though.. no dout about that at all. do you own one?
i couldn't even fit a mountain bike in it with both wheels removed. the driving postion was so cramped and the door panels were not big enoughn and didnt give a postion to rest youre right elbow whilst hollding the steering wheel which is essential for comfort these days. I drove a dodge grand caravan and it far more comfortable than this. I have found american interiors are much more nicely laid out for user comfort in the real world. japanese might be better built but the layout isnt
Sorry, but having owned a 10 year old IS200, it looks and performs extremely better than a 10 year old 320i.. My mate also owns a 7 year old 320i and has had to spend 3k on electronic services this year alone. I think the only thing i've ever had to replace in my car was the panel filter and that was purely by choice not by need. It also looks great.. I dont think there is a better looking 10 year old car model, period.
its just a way different people look at different styling details.... many people prefer flamboyant designs like the interiors of the lexus. some others like myself like restrained elegance... its just a matter of taste. any given day, i would go for the bmw...

I had a 2002 black sport one of these for years. I now have a bmw 320d, 6 years newer but I have to say, everytime I meet an IS200 on the road my heart skips a beat an I hate my bmw more and more. It was the most reliable car I have ever had. 4 years I drove the absolute bag out of it and it never gave me a days grief. I changed it for a 2006 IS220 diesel and it was a disaster. The carbon builds on the engine & manafold causing the car to stop every 40 or 50 thousand. 6th gear....Why? Useless!
@desimunda116 Um it is a 6cylinder 2.0L engine, it was first attached to an automatic, then in 02 a manual option came along. and if you mean why a 2.0L 6cyl, then can you say razor fast throttle response and quick revving?

@desimunda116 I would have to agree with part of what you said as american v8's are usually large in Liters i.e 5.3L and up. 4 cylinders are more responsive becaused of the reduced rotating mass. For example a 5.2L v10 in a lamborghini revs faster than my 3.0L is300 motor. But 5.2L v10 is a sewing machine compared to say the 8.4L v10 in a viper which rev's like a dog in comparison. So cc's as opposed to number of cylinders seems to be the deciding factor
@srosamechanic i think both cc and cylinders are deciding factors. also lamborghini engines are much more sophisticated than a viper engine. i have a civic si and that thing loves to rev because if I'm honest I need to rev it to get it around quickly. and i am in love with that 5.2L V10 thats in the gallardo and r8 v10. that thing sings all the way to 8500rpm.

If you live in pakistan, then maybe you would have a greater possibility that when you see an IS, a pakistani might be driving it. @wue2117 The US version of the IS200 was the IS300. It's among the most reliable cars Lexus has made, far more so than comparable 3 series and A4s. It performs just as good as either, and has held its value better as well. Keep your expensive VW!

@mofunzonecom IS250 .84g IS300 .83g. um the IS250 is about 200lbs heavier, does .01g better in the skid pad(not really noticeable) and 0-60 is .1sec. faster than the IS300 but the IS3001/4 mile is .3 sec faster. and with that close of specs for skid pad (which is not tossing a car left then right and so on) its dependent on the driver. So with -200+lbs i think in real life, with the IS300's better low end torque, it would take the IS250 in real corners.
Toyota (or Lexus) make great cars, remeber the Supra? They have good ride quality and streering, just last week me and my brother in law were taking 25 mph turns at 60 with no problems in a camry with onlly a four banger (which makes 158 hp without the avalable supercharger)! Toyota makes the 2GR-FSE V6 that makes 355 horse and the 3UR-FE which (with a super charger) makes 504 hp with 550 Ft-lb of touque. Sound boring to you?
i have the manual and its my first car so i think its brilliant, but the guy i got it off had done it up but not too badly coz all he did was paint job to a sort of dark grey and black wheels with a tiny spoiler on the back so its not too bad, i love it
I love my IS300. They really are great cars. Just wish it wasn't the '01 model so I could have the manual transmission, but either way I still love it.

Starting in 2000, they tweaked it. Rear fog lamps act as break lights as well (4 now). Error code on 6-stack CD now gone. Buy a Toyota Altezza. It's a lot cheaper than a Lexus IS200 (or a BMW 3 series). And they're both the same car.
Altezza as 200 and lexus is200 are not the same....The lexus version weighed more because it has more extras....ie electric seats etc...Also the altezza is cheaper to buy but insurance premiums are more due to it being an inport. If youre going to buy a lexus/altezza youre best off with the altezza rs200 as appose to the as200. The rs200 has a 4 cylinder engine with 210 bhp where as the as200 and is200 have a 6 cylinder engine producing 140 bhp.

Toyota (or Lexus) make great cars, remeber the Supra? They have good ride quality and streering, just last week me and my brother in law were taking 25 mph turns at 60 with no problems in a camry with onlly a four banger (which makes 158 hp without the avalable supercharger)! Toyota makes the 2GR-FSE V6 that makes 355 horse and the 3UR-FE which (with a super charger) makes 504 hp with 550 Ft-lb of touque. Sound boring to you?

i have the manual and its my first car so i think its brilliant, but the guy i got it off had done it up but not too badly coz all he did was paint job to a sort of dark grey and black wheels with a tiny spoiler on the back so its not too bad, i love it

I love my IS300. They really are great cars. Just wish it wasn't the '01 model so I could have the manual transmission, but either way I still love it.

Starting in 2000, they tweaked it. Rear fog lamps act as break lights as well (4 now). Error code on 6-stack CD now gone. Buy a Toyota Altezza. It's a lot cheaper than a Lexus IS200 (or a BMW 3 series). And they're both the same car.

Altezza as 200 and lexus is200 are not the same....The lexus version weighed more because it has more extras....ie electric seats etc...Also the altezza is cheaper to buy but insurance premiums are more due to it being an inport. If youre going to buy a lexus/altezza youre best off with the altezza rs200 as appose to the as200. The rs200 has a 4 cylinder engine with 210 bhp where as the as200 and is200 have a 6 cylinder engine producing 140 bhp.
