...dude, Bob Dylan wrote "Blowin' In The Wind" ...even my Grandmother know that. It's one of his early iconic folk songs that set him oh his way and into the the public's consciousness. BITW is so inextricably tied to Bob Dylan's cultural identity that I can't even fathom that you thought Seeger wrote it. Next you'll be saying "Gerry And The Pacemakers" wrote Beatles songs.
The reason Elvis was so succesful was he was open to change and performing other people songs ..Elvis really loved talented song writers ..he really liked Dylan as he recorded 4 of his songs..Elvis' version of TOMORROWS A LONG TIME is fantastic
Must be extremely hard to sing the part Elvis is singing in the first part of the song, as it would be so easy to navigate to the more melodical, harmonious part that Hodge and co. are singing. Very interesting version!
Beautiful song sung by Elvis .Just very touchin and great photos. Thank you so much Jackie for sharin this with us . It is very special indeed. God Bless and
Its not that rare the first can be found on the double CD A touch of Platinum vol 1 disc 2 and the other on the FTD CD In a private moment, both were done in 66.Dylan said that Elvis's version of Tomorrow is a long time was the best version of one of his songs he had heard.
The greatest artists have fallen before Bob Dylan's music making them theirs in a vast number of ways. Elvis performed Bob's songs dozens of times. Happy new year and Bob Bless you!
Notice: I said 'performed', not necesarily recorded. And I was talking about Tomorrow is a long time, Blowing in the wind, Don't think twice it's alrignt and She belongs to me.
I also said 'songs' and that noun form indicates anything from two units on.
Elvis is a magnificent artist, but I particularly give credit to the significance of his art, timing included.
Sounds like Elvis was trying for the Peter Paul and Mary three-part harmony version, and taking the bass line himself. Properly mixed, this would have been a really nice recording.
many years ago i went to the old american legion dance hall to watch the original section perform and i looked in the back of the place and saw bob dylan. the next timei saw dj fontana and didnt rrecognize him. cstanchik
I think Elvis Presley was trying to give this song a gospel feel to it! I think I hear Mother Maybelle Carter's or The Carter Family's influence and he was just trying to learn and get a feel for it! Listen to Mother Maybelle Carter's "Faded Coat of Blue" about the Civil War! Elvis Presley always tried to make a cover version his own! Listen to If I Can Dream and In the Ghetto to see and hear that Elvis had a social conscience about War and Poverty! RIP Elvis Presley and Mary Travers too!
I can't get into this. he wasn't a protester in any way. Of course, he has one of the best voices of all time and it's cool tosee him in his environment.. I just get inspired more by Dillon and Peter Paul and Mary. Different eras, different sounds. I wish Elvis had stayed away from the Hollywood goofy movies. I read he did not want to do them, He is an incomparable talent. I'll check out your others, thanx.
No, Elvis wasn't a "protestor", but not everyone with a social conscience need be a protestor. And if you bone up on Elvis' bio, you'll see that he did on various occasions exhibit a social conscience. Look up the lyrics to his song "In the Ghetto", for instance. That song got a lot of airplay back around 1968. (I was a kid at the time and I remember it because it was such a departure from the Elvis I had known until then.)
And, btw, "Dillon" is the marshall and the Matt, Dylan is the Bob.
Written by Bob Dylan. This is a home recording of Elvis from 1966; I do not know if he is in Hollywood or at Graceland. I dont know who the woman is but the man is probably Charlie Hodge, as he sang harmony with Elvis on many recordings in the 1960s and 1970s, and lived at Graceland. Elvis is singing the low part. This is two versions of the recording: one from Platinum-A Life in Music and a Touch of Platinum and the other part is available on In A Private Moment.
Obviously, the version of this legendary and historic folk song from the "Platinum: A Life In Music" four disc box set from 1997 is 100% better than the version from the FTD "In A Private Moment". CD from 2000. I own both of those album releases. This is easily one of my most favorite songs ever. This song has true meaning and it was perfectly written. There'll never be another Elvis. This video was absolutely perfect in every way, 10 Stars as always Jackie.
I swear I think this gay is Charlie Harper playing piano in your house in malibu Elvis is great forever , I love Elvis and Charlie Sheen rsss

Right, Dylan wrote the lyrics, somewhat borrowing the melody from the traditional negroe spiritual song No more aucion block for me.

Even though Elvis was virtually wiped off the big time scene as soon as the Beatles came in, Lennon said rightly: "Before Elvis there was nothing".
Years later Bruce Springsteen also said: Elvis made you move your body, Dylan made you think.
You ought to brush up your music history bud. Cheers!

@eleot Elvis wiped off by The Beatles?? lol!
He was in Hollywood doing movies and was not wiped off by anybody.
But he did a comebac in -68 and was no. 1 the day after.
