CCW: 2.177 Streets of Gotham City REVIEW

Initially I wasn't sure what to make of Streets of Gotham. Between Morrison's flagship book Batman & Robin and the Winick-helmed Batman, I wondered what story Gotham could cover that wasn't going to be boring. I was pleasantly surprised by Batman: Streets of Gotham #1. This is a noir-inspired look at Grayson and Damien's time as the Dynamic Duo , and , successfully provides a new take on the current Batman Reborn storyline.

If you like Zach, locus, try to see "The Comedians of Comedy". He's in it.

Plus they show Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn go to a shop to buy their comics. That documentary is awesome.

One thing I wonder is what will DC do with the Joker and what his take on the new Batman will be, because Grant Morrison will explore what Gordon's views are in Batman and Robin #2, and they left the Joker's fate unknown after Batman R,I.P.

i'm shocked at how much i'm enjoying Dick as Batman. The dynamic between him and Damian is fantastic. Will you guys be reviewing Detective? I wasn't really digging the back-up feature, wish it was $2.99, this week was a cash killer, had to skip a couple books :(

i'm loving damien as robin. i wish they made detective an anthology book instead of a batwoman book...but it doesn't matter, i'm not picking it up.

j's right, dc need to be as vocal as marvel are about the GOOD stuff they doo. not enough raise for the manhunter backup etc. sometimes you have to blow your own trumpet.

seriously...after years of reading crap...i get a decent fix out of this..its a laugh.

and the first issue begins with Spider-Man on the trail of Wolvy.... hrmmmm spidey sense vs animal senses. heee hee

i really wish they would give me 20 pages of these a month.

you know whats awsome? i saw on the racks of my comic shop a bunch of dark avengers, new avengers. i was so happy seeing alot of those there cause that is telling me no one is buy those comics :) gawd that made my day

I don't think Bruce Wayne ever needed to be held back by Robin. He wasn't a murderer like Damien, and half the time he stopped Robin from doing crazy stuff.

I agree that the second features from DC is a positive. However, I can tell you the vast majority of the customers I've discussed this with are very unhappy. They consider this a trick from DC to jack up the price while including a secondary story they don't even want. Again, I disagree with this viewpoint but it will be interesting to see how this affects sales.

Seeing how DC has only done it with a a handful of titles I think those people may be complaining for the sake of complaining. Do they like paying 4 dollars for Marvel books and getting absolutely nothing extra? I like how they feel they are be "tricked". DC is telling them up front that it's a dollar more for an extra story that DC had to pay people to do. If anything those people should feel swindled by Marvel.

I have yet to talk to anybody who has really complained about it.

We all know comics readers love to complain. Also, strangely the majority seems to hate change. Would you like to read a book that tows the status quo line for forty years? I know I don't.

to be honest, I'm not crazy about either scenario. Fuck back up stories, fuck reprints, fuck sketches, fuck Bendis and Loeb, make comics more affordable and I will buy more, keep gouging and sooner or later people are going to buy nothing but trades. But most folks don't seem to mind and i'm starting to sound like a broken record but honestly $4.00 for a comic book that takes 5 min to read is ridiculous, or maybe i just like complaining too much...

Just kidding. Hey man, I hate $4 comics just as much as you do but if I am going to pay a dollar more for an issue at least the extra pages are about characters I enjoy. If I wasn't a fan of Blue Beetle, Manhunter or the Question I would probably be complaining too. Guess I'm just lucky it turned out that way.

Man fucking Dective Comics my god it's amazing never thought I'd be this excited for Batwoman, this is how you do it that extra buck is worth it. Marvel needs to learn this lesson quick

i did not like streets of gotham because i think it is adding way to much destruction to the city i mean you have what happend with bftc with the explosion then you have firfly buring people and the city i mean its making me just say to myself. why the hell are people still in this city? batman or not there is way to much shit going on here. i did read gotham city sirens which was ok.

i think an armpit like bludhaven looks better then gotham at this point
