Is it possible to put Variable Geometry Turbo on other sports cars? The 911 turbo seems to be the only one who did and there are a lot of turbocharged cars out there.
And I know it looks great with the oval lights but I think they should alter the headlights for the next generation like how they did it with the 996. The rest of the car has a refreshing new look but the front end and interior looks quite like the same as it did when the 997 was first introduced.
@boosted300zx1 WRONG. The 2010 911 GT3 RS has a 450hp N/A engine that can destroy the Z06. The 911 GT3 Rs can lap the 'ring in 7:33, where as the Z06 laps it in 7:43. A full ten seconds slower.
@porschecarreragtmay6 the gt3 rs costs like 150k lol and the z06 costs 60 slightly used....also if you raced a z06 on the street you would not win...it would pull away once you reached 100+ mph....the z06 will keep up with basically ever porsche including all turbos....plus porsches have the same look like 20s years ago...talk about "styling"...yawn
@porschecarreragtmay6 thats stupid ....... if the driver can drive he will hit it less .. give the zr1 . zr1 will fuckin eat the turbo ........ i said zr1 becuse the zo6 is an old model so give us old porsha model and prosha will be smoked by the KING vette
@boosted300zx1 Yeah baby!!!! Yankee ingenuity!!! Who gives a rats ass whether the 911 has a 10 second faster lap time at Nurbergring. I will be cruising mainstreet USA in Americas sweetheart, the Corvette. The Vette, gets 'em wet baby!!!
@arumdevil Ok, then. Maybe two tenths of a second at most and I save a ton of money on a Corvette. Buy American, Build American, Be American. Anywhere you go everyone knows the iconic Corvette. Both my parents were native Germans. They bought American. Oh and by the way, when the Teutonic Wundercarr breaks down, how much will it cost to fix? If you are in middle America, Chevrolet dealers are everywhere.
@arumdevil I also see you are in UK. The Corvette here is really part of American folklore. That is difficult for someone who did not grow up here to understand. It is as American as Elvis, Hot Dogs and Baseball. Something that we hold dear to our hearts.
@arumdevil I will take that sir!!! I will be smoking the tires all the way down main street USA!!! I love Porsches, don't get me wrong. Especially the 917, the 914-6 and of course the 1974 Carrera S. I just like American big block muscle. I am a muscle car junkie as are many Americans!! You would understand better if you grew up here.
@arumdevil Yes...and not a profanity, vulgar remark or personal attack. Thanks to a civilized Yank and a proper British Gentleman. I will confess a deep rooted love for anything Lotus or Graham Chapman. My ideal car is an Aston Martin DB5. The ultimate in craftsmanship and dignity. Not the fastest by any means. But the ultimate gentlemans' automobile.
I Had the chance to seat in this car. The clutch is crazy the 6 speed Gearbox is awesome Strong Gearbox hard to put it in Rear you need to push hard Left very hard Left and up. There is no push button, start engine is left side instead of right like most cars. I did not take any pictures because my best car is Corvette Z06 when i see one i will definitely take a Video!
Though the the GT-R has similar performance characteristics to this new turbo, it lacks in true class. The GT-R is a cheap shot at a super car, made mostly of old beer cans. It is defiantly NOT a timeless design, and it will assuredly become an old, tired, piece of crap like its predecessor. If 0-60 times and top speed are all one cares about then they surely do not and will never appreciate true craftsmanship or a true super car.
hmmm.....i don't realy like the restyling. the first 997 was looking much more agressive. especialy the rear bumper has much better with the sharkfin vents.
Are you kidding me??? That's because paddle shifters w/ Porsche Doppellkupplung are optional and Manual is standard. Watch the whole video before you make an un-educated comment.
You aren't making any sense. First you said that it's not the 2010... It IS the 2010. The 2010 911 Turbo comes with 3 transmission choices, manual as standard, optional PDK with button shifters, and optional paddle shifters in conjunction with PDK.
Why would anyone wanna bring up the gtr here? What´s up whit people that really seems like they wanna prove to everyone their not carentusiasts (?) .... oh dear....
New Turbo - I want it so bad.... but I´m aiming for a 993 Carrera next summer.. :)
@thevonfermins Hey my dream car is a Porsche 911 turbo and I will take one over a GT-R any day. But there is no denying based on price the GT-R kicks Porsche ass. At almost half the price with relatively similar performance the GT-R is Supreme. I only say this because 911 turbos are in the ridiculous rich to be able to own one.
I was talking about the GTR being ugly. LOVE the 911 (I own a Carrera 4S). I've seen several GTRs in person and, while, it is imposing and imparts weight and "presence," it looks like a high-school kid drew it on his notebook in 1987.
"Raw" in it requires driver involvement - absolutely. The GTR's electronics were designed to allow an average driver to easily maneuver the car at high speeds. The 911's dynamics will ALWAYS be compromised by its rear-engine layout. Porsche engineers design electronics to assist a skilled driver make best use of the car's abilities - but the car is always on the verge of flying into a ditch.

You can't make that kind of assessment without driving both cars, or at least reading a lot of published literature on both cars. If you drive a 996 C4S (my model) on a windy track at high speeds, and then try a GTR, you won't believe how much more confidence inspiring and easier to place the Nissan is. Of course, some people do prefer the raw edginess of the 911.

lol true, but as a porsche boy, i have to hand it to the GTR since power enterprise (i think) modded the GTR to have 4 (yes i mean 4) turbos. Thats crazy. and now i dont want to go with BMW starting to twin turbo 4 bangers...
But, one thing is a bit deceiving. You see, I said Porsche wouldn't use a Torque vectoring differential, because they won't put more weight on the rear and it appears I was right.

I watched the video ;) But it's not a "proper" torque vectoring differential. As shown, it uses brakes to split the torque between wheels. When the computer wants to send more power to the left rear wheel, it brakes the right one and vice versa.
However that's not the most effective solution, because a fair bit of energy is transfered into heat.
On the other hand, the clutch based diff in Nissan GT-R, BMW X6 and Audi S4 works just better...
...it's not like Nissan is ahead of Porsche in technology, but Porsche simply cannot use this type of differential on 911, coz its heavy and putting more weight in the back would just make things a lot worse so instead, they gone for this substitute.
It's Porsche's will to continue the legacy of 911, and they have to fight the difficulties.
Perhaps they should put gearbox in the front? Then they could put the clutch based TV diff in the back and the weight distribution would remain unchanged.

You can't make that kind of assessment without driving both cars, or at least reading a lot of published literature on both cars. If you drive a 996 C4S (my model) on a windy track at high speeds, and then try a GTR, you won't believe how much more confidence inspiring and easier to place the Nissan is. No, the 2010 Turbo has an optional PTV (Porsche Tourque Vectoring) System. It isn't standard, and it comes with a mechanical differential.
