1) what's the picking-pulling-hammering combination on the variation?

(for the first one it looks like- starting from the g string- 2 downstrokes hammer pull).

EXCELLENT observation! The only reason I do this is because when I first started playing guitar I broke my index finger playing basketball. Since I didn't want to stop playing guitar, I just started holding my pick with my middle finger. And it's a habit that I still have today.

How does one avoid pulling off flatted note? I keep pulling off and getting unwanted noise. I have the same problem bending, and hitting above strings with my bending fingers.

With time and practice you will solve that problem naturaly.

One of the things you can do is mute the above string with the palm of your picking hand.

yea muting the strings u not using really helps, i use to get the same problem for bending, make sure ur nails arent to long,sometimes that got in my way, and make sure the strings r suitable for bending

really appreciate all these vids man, helps break down the greatest licks ever! however, i cant help stop the ringing of the 18th fret on the g string when you pull off and it accidently plays an open g (an unwanted note). any tips?

Thanks for the kind words, very much appreciated. You might want to lower the "action" (moving the strings closer to the fretboard) on your guitar. Having a low action makes playing the guitar a lot easier, especially fast licks like this one.

how do you do this lick so clean? do you bar the b string and g string? or do you leave the g string alone? also are you muting the strings with your palm?

Good question. No, I'm not barring the B and G strings. To get the lick to sound clean I'm slightly palm muting the G string with my right hand and I'm hammering down and pulling off on it pretty hard. It's really that simple.

hey! is there any change you could do that slash lick where it looks like his fingers are running all over the frets with all of his fingers, he never did it in a recording so therefore i cant really learn it from ear, and plus its very, very fast, he did it on the live voodoo child with zakk wylde, i hope you know what i mean, and i hope you could do it, if not get back to me, cheers!

3:38 to 4:44. TO me, it sounds a lot like the major/minor "keep your hands to yourself" lick, cycled, but it is hard to hear.

Me neither. However, "Keep your hands to yourself" is by the Georgia Satellites, and has a riff I always associate with it! Barre the top 3 strings at the 5th fret (A min), add 6th fret 3rd string to get AMaj. Listen to the song, start of solo, its easier to hear than explain....
