  • Gosh, I love Gabu much more than Mei. He just takes such good care of him ('specially in regard to him in the blizzard scene). Mei is adorable, but he can't fend for himself too well it seems.

  • Noooooo!

  • now if they were kissing and humping eachother it would be gay,im straight and i have a really close friend thats gay, and he is NEVER all up in my face about it, so that just proves that two close friends doesnt mean a gay relationship...

  • @blackwolfkodi I totally agree with you.

  • Thank god the video stopped were it did or i would have lost it!(':

  • aw- i cried when gabu was telling his tummy to stop rumbling T-T

  • Aww, Mei sounds so sad and cute when he struggles through the snow. ToT

  • NOOOOO Don't die any of you 2! DX

  • I don't think their gay. This is cute and a representation of true friendship. I have no doubt rule 34 kicked in somewhere at some point in time but I really thing their just a really cute pair of good friends with no gay attachments what so ever.

Honestly EVERYTHING doesn't NEED to be turned perverted.

Also, Mei is so sweet to be willing to let Gabu eat him so he won't be hungry. That must have been my favorite part of this story.

  • I'm bawling!!!!

  • omg ima cry oh wait too late i already am

  • hahaha this is the part where it starts snowing harder and Mei looks to Gabu and says "I lied..."

and i go with the guys who says it's not gay it's cute get the facts right and stop trying to make a controversy out of a goddamn kid movie

  • Personally, I'm American and I don't think it's "gay" at all. I love this movie and I think that the people that consider an ever-lasting and unconditional friendship like this need to grow up! It drives me nuts when someone says that Gabu and Mei are homo!! Grr!!

  • Notice how Gabu's art style gets more and more rounded in his eyes and expressions as the movie goes on, especially here as we see his emotion. At the start he is quite jagged to look more 'hostile' and show his character development as he learns to care more about Mei. Also, he contrasts the other wolves, who unlike him, are arseholes. :)

  • Haha, American's are so homophobic. But if it was two women you know everyone would approve. That, and trolls are calling it gay for the lulz. :D

  • @iEMILAR i don't think its gay, this is practicaly the only movie i shedded tears to.

  • @Dudevizz3 Neither do I. It's about friendship, but it seems like people take true friendship the wrong way these days.

  • @iEMILAR

But then again, those of us that notice some rather substantial ho-yay undertones are lumped in with all the 'omg, tehy are teh gey' trolls. Yes, its merely a movie about good friends growing close, yes, there is nothing going on but a very wonderful and loving friendship....but one would need to be a fool not to recognize that some of the events and actions in this movie carry strong undertones.

  • @Neoxkais At the same time, you'll see a lot of Japanese anime and notice gay undertones, but their culture is also very different in what they percieve as gay. To Americans, this movie is homo, but America is still getting used to the idea of men (or women) being attracted to one another. I don't think they did the scenes to be gay on purpose, it's just how you look at it.

  • @iEMILAR

You are entirely right. They don't see friends being this close carrying any connontations what so ever, and americans do tend to see homo where there is none. It's all a matter of perspective, and I'm not saying that there would be a problem if they were implying something...just...it would seem they are

  • Remeber kids, if you befriend an iraqui terrorist and you are trapped in a frozen cave, EAT HIM

  • ;;~;;

  • Relax, guys. Anybody who calls this movie gay is just a troll.

  • @Sumenora indeed

  • I'm crying ;n; I was beginning to get really sad but when Mei said "Gabu..." at 7:46 it sent me over the edge. BAWWWW it's SO cute ;n;

  • @Sumenora ...dude you can be in love with someone without wanting to get in their pants. :L i should know... -sigh-

  • People are so rude about this they are just best friends! my gosh stop with this gay crap oh well all those posts were months and years ago anyway >.>

  • @travmanacter ...wow. people like you really can't let people have imaginations, can you? maybe some people - me included - like to interpret things romantically. just because it happens to be two males doesn't make it wrong.

  • I'm crying!!! I'm crying!!! NOOOOO!!!!

  • i could make a gay joke here...... aaaaaaand i will

    Mei: EAT ME

    Me: thats what he sai-....ewwwwwwwww

god that was in bad taste.

    XD

  • Argh stop smiling you damn goat XD

  • Whether it's gay or not, who cares. I still love this movie. ´w`

  • NO FAIR. I watched the entire movie, and right at the end it brought me to tears!

WHY! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO ASK HIM TO EAT YOU MEEEEEEEI?!

  • OMG i cried D': when he said eat me to fill ur tummeh :( And he didnt what a loyal friend! :{ i dont have much friends... i want a friend like gabu...

  • 5:21 - 5:24 - OMG TOTULLY GAY SDLKJHALSJKHD

That's what it would've looked like if I were as ignorant as the people who really think that Mei and Gabu really ARE gay. :V

But srsly, that moment was downright adorable. <33

  • @trappedinthenight I still don't get it, I know they aren't gay in this movie...but so what if they where? does it really matter either way???

  • @Razor6731 I'm not saying it would be wrong if they were gay (which it wouldn't), I was just trying to imitate the ones who spazz over things like that. xD I was basically poking fun at some ignorant people; sorry if I offended you. :3

  • @trappedinthenight heh, no you're fine x3...and anyways I just finished watching this movie, and it has to be one of the best movies I've seen in a loooong time much better than most the crap Disney dishes out nowadays :P

  • @Razor6731 I know. As someone had said on one of these videos, Disney only wishes they could animate like this. xD

  • If only Takehito Koyasu had done Barry. He has done at least 365 Voice Acting roles, adding this one to his arsenal would have made his movie so much more epic. Not saying it isn't, it's still a really cool movie.

  • Epic movie in anime

  • Some people call this a gay movie? What the fuck? For God's sake, when does the immaturity died?

  • EVERYONE WHO EVER POSTED ON THIS VIDEO IS WRONG.

Mei is a girl, Gabu is a transvestite, and it's a movie about the difficulties in the southern states about discrimination against Trannies.

... har, come on people, it's a cute movie.

Who cares what it's SUPPOSED to be about?

Just enjoy it or don't watch it. Simple.

  • Why is everyone so hung up about the whole "gay" thing? Just watch the movie peoplez.. Mei is so cute ^.^ Gabus funny.

  • So Gabu, fill your belly with food.

    Ok!

No wait! I wasnt being serious! AHHHHHHH!!!

  • This is really something beyond normal friendship, it's a friendship between a prey and a predator and carries a much more deeper meaning. Interpretating it as a "Gay" relationship is just missing the point and so shallow ~

  • I'm sure the weather will be nice!

    BOOOOOM

  • aww i started cryin it was so sad x3 but its adorable xD

  • They keep mentioning how the forest MUST be there and everytime it just makes me think that something horrible is going to happen and they will both die. :(

  • Hmm...

Well, I find it totally plausible that their relationship could be considered romantic yet platonic; I don't think "either they're just friends or they're gay" is a fair dichotomy (and I'd personally like to see the word "gay" evolve a romantic meaning — beyond a sexual one).

That said, I see no harm in someone's imagining that Gabu and Mei's relationship is homosexual, if that's the scenario that they find most pleasing — this is simply entertainment, after all.

  • Gay?

    haha

    Watch your ugly heart.

  • I really adore this movie but really even in japan a closeness like this is normal and it's just a great bond between friends nothing gay at all in the least

  • 5:24 cute

  • Why does this has to be so sad. I bursted in tears when Gabu were begging his stomach to sto grumbling and then they both started crying! I'm so happy that I'm seeing this film 'cos this is fuckin masterpiece.

  • I envy the 2 of 'em and there friendship....

  • thier NOT gay

  • cuz its just natral that they are not gay becouse of both thier specise and its retarded to think of somthing like that.

  • Lol jk.

  • If Gabu were to actually eat Mei, he'd lose his will to go on. No Mei to live with, and no home to go back to.

  • I love how in every part of the video there's a 'being gay' chat going on xD

  • Omg this one made me cry D: and i wouldnt care even if they were gay its still very heardt warming and shares a good moral isnt it all that matters? Good Friends or gay they still care for eachother what is the difference other than preferance! Love is love no matter what degree.

  • Let me correct myself, I have nothing aginst gays im bi myself and what i said seemed like i dont like gays, what i mean to say is it SHOULDNT make a difference, because love is love no matter what.

  • tomato paste

  • ...OK, no holding it back! I'm just gonna blurt it out!

I really cried at this part, me watching this movie for the first time. Seriously, this has to be one of the best anime movies I've ever seen, if not, THE best.

(Oh, and Mei & Gabu are not gay. There really close friends, thats all.)

  • I think they can be Gay AND close friends :) at the same time as Some couples that are Het could have been both too

  • yes! that's how I think xD

These two are really cute T//T

  • Haha, the way Gabu landed and caught Mei on the log at the start of this video was so Road Runner-esque XD

  • The only way for either of them to live, is if Gabu eats Mei.

But Gabu doesnt want to live without Mei...

  • the sound soo cool in the english version i find there voices to fit more in that one (after you get used to it)

  • I feel just rotten right now.

  • Yes! I'm sure the weather will be good!

    FOOM!!

  • Hey if you listen VERY VERY VERY carefully at like 1:14-2:00 you can here a slow version of the instremental of the ending song

  • two guys can be such friends that they risk eachother's life for one another.but mei's personality and all the awkwardness between them paints a picture of a couple longing to be together.

    Awesome clip x)

  • way to copy and paste what i said.

  • what?

  • Im crying so hard right now! This movie is so touching ;_:

  • DAMNIT MEI!!! DONT BE EMO!!!!

  • I think making Mei a girl would have ruined the story. People expect the Romeo and Juliette angle and people would have laughed it off as 'just another stupidly desperate couple story'.

People expect romance to equal desperation, but this story is about friendship being just as strong, if not stronger. Making Mei a girl would have made it WAY too superficial.

I think that even having them be a gay couple takes away from the overall message of the story. Friendship works best here.

  • @Otamamon You are very right however I am into the whole cheezy romance thing so having Mei as a girl would have been fine-or Gabu- or having a gay couple. But as much as I would find it adorable It's obvious they are close friends-nothing more, nothing less

  • @Otamamon I still think the wolf fucked that goat.

  • damn, these guys know how to tug on your heartstrings

  • Gabu: You think the weather will clear up?

Mei: Yeah it'll be better tomorrow

    *Blizzard!!!!*

  • what about eating in this Gabu should be hungry

  • LOL 3:20, Mei totally jinxed himself.

  • Comment removed

  • Being chased by wolves best case senario ly a mine but still this movie shouldve made Mei a girl so ill understand the movie alot better including that the Name Mei is more of a girl name than a guy

  • Apparently mei was designed to look like a girl, but why not just make him a girl if they wanted to go that far?

and just for the record, mei is a girls name, anyone who watches avatar would remember Zuko's emo girlfriend.

all things considered though, the movie came out awsome anyways.

  • Mei is PERFECTLY fine being a male.

The movie is about true friendship and what they would go through to keep it.

I think now and days we truly lost sight on what real friendship is.

I don't know WHY people would see these two as some kind of couple other then friends.

But like I say, I've lost faith in people.

'Cause apparently two guys can not be friend if their not gay. It's really stupid.

  • two guys can be such friends that they risk eachother's life for one another.but mei's personality and all the awkwardness between them paints a picture of a couple longing to be together.when guys are such close friends that they even hang out all the time or share an apartment, its more of a brotherly relationship where they jokingly pretend to harass each other.even mei having the vulnerable personality tries to catch gabu off guard or look down on certain aspects looks like theyre a couple

  • the point is that if you look at it judging a children's fairytale as an adult its like romeo and juliet minus the poison and dagger, and if you look at it as a platonic relationship as its meant to be projected through a child's interpretation, its like Disney's The Fox and the Hound.

  • The idea behind this moive is just sweet and touching,

And I have to agree with the idea of it

being compared to the Fox and the Hound. I like that.

But this isn't an adult moive anyways, it's for kids.

Its teaching true friendship and love in a way that's considered brotherly.

So saying something like adults can only see them

as a couple is a bit far fetched isn't it?

Actually, adults should be to ones who can easily tell what this is about since they made it after all... : /

  • personally i dont care whether mei was male or not, but they couldve tried to make better distinctions between the sexes in how it was animated. the shewolf looked rediculous. the male goats couldve been just a tad less cute to add to their role. i only stated how this COULD be interpreted, but like all intellectual property and/or art, is the intent of the creator. Its meant to be platonic, so people should just take their word for it and see it how the creators did. I loved fox and the hound.

  • i grew up in an old fashioned family that had its prejudices but were decent not to act out on or talk behind backs, but it may have been from lack of quality talk on tolerance that i couldve turned out different than i did, maybe, id like to think i wouldnt have turned out racist anyways. but my main lesson that taught me to not just be tolerant, but friendly and open to mingle with anyone freely was from watching Fox and the Hound. truly a timeless tale for the ages.

  • just wondering, were exactly did you get your percentages on what Mei should've been? because i gotta say that sounds to out of proportion to be true

  • Well it would not be exactly true. But, o me personaly i rather prefer Mei as a girl; to everyone else it's their descion im just speaking out the truth of what i think

  • oh ok, well in my opinion making mei a girl would make this just like any other movie

  • agreed -_-

  • i really don't get why viewers have the idea that their gay...they have a friengship type of love...GET DAT THROUGH YUR HEADS!

  • wen i saw Mei at first at thought he was a girl

but then i heard his voice so im like: "ooh..

but yeah ppl keep thinking theyre gay...and theyre not *snicker*

  • WA!?!? THE ENDING ON THIS PART!!

    lol, hes not going to..

    He cant..

  • lol funny noises

  • It's not often that some scenes in animation can bring out tears from my eyes. The scene where Mei offered himself as food came pretty close.....

  • I know what you mean...and when Gabu said why was he bown a wolf I came so close...I really should have just let my self cry..

  • I wonder what Barry told Giro when he let Mei and Gabu get away, i bet Giros face was priceless.

  • I like Gabu's voice actor. so badass

  • this is one of the best animes i ever seen!! :D thank you for uploading it :)

  • I have no fucking clue why those wolfs are persisting to get those two... is there some sort of thing in this "wolf code" that is when you see food you chase after it, until you get it?

  • I think it's to set an example.

I mean if they let every wolf who did something wrong get away so easily, their wouldn't be any real law among the wolfs since they could do anything with no consequences.

  • "Did I just look delicious to you?" lmfao. Win City.

  • o.0 I about cried when he said 'why was I born as a wolf?'. That's surprising, cause I usually never cry at these animes. Love this story.

  • Dammit Mei! why the fuck do you have to get all sentimental! Gah!

    Good movie, 10/10

  • I feel so sorry for Gabu, he's so hungry but he doesn't want to eat Mei. :( It hurt me when he said 'why was I born as a wolf?'

  • This is how The Fox and the Hound would have went down if Japan had gotten hold of it. Muuuuuch better!

And with none of those stupid lovey undertones.

  • How?Dogs don`t eat foxes or the other way around, the deal in that movie was that dogs hunt foxes for humans to kill. The movie was excellent expect the fact that they kept Chief alive, while in the original story he died.

  • Sry I meant "except"

  • I'm crying ;-(

  • aw don't cry. it'll all be good in the end.

  • Hei has become realy smart and experienced in front of how he was naive in secound episode.

  • Seems odd that Gabu can find the energy to do all that while living off nothing but field mice

  • It must be a power mice

  • field mice on energy bars and steroids

  • Everyone thinks its "horrible" that Im pointing out the single simple fact, that this movie is yes, quite ... "Amazing" you may put it, but how is it bad for me to point out the fact that they act gay? No 2 GUYS would go live together and run away from their families to be together. No one else noticed that but me? Sure its a kids movie, does that take away the fact I cant point it out? Lol

  • Everyone has their own opinions, and we are free to express them. It definately isn't wrong for you point that out. It's just better off to enjoy the movie without arguing about little things like this.

  • lol I wasnt arguing, I was just pointing out the fact everyone flipped over me saying that.

Which amuses me so. I love hate mail. :]

    Pile it on.

Seeing you people disturbed and giving me those awkward devil glances amuses me. Please be offended. I like it.

  • I know. Maybe I used the wrong choice of words when I said "arguing". I was talking about the people giving you these hate comments from what you were pointing out. People just can't express their differences without getting that stuff.

Sorry if I gave you that wrong impression. I just hope people can try to calm down a little when someone says something like that.

  • Lol dont worry, I have nothing against you, in fact you act somewhat like me which is quite amusing, for I am a very "different" type of person ;D Have a great day

  • EmoWolfy, I see what you mean, but just because two guys are close friends doesn't mean they're gay, they could be, but doesn't mean they are.

  • Yeah, but they are not gay. It's a damn kids movie. They are friends. There is nothing sexual about it. There is a difference between the too. The is family love, friend love, and lover love. They have the friend love.

  • Well, they aren't male humans, they are male animals.

And it's a kid's movie, so anything goes really.

So, if I have 2 male dogs that are friendly with each other, does it make them gay?

And guys can live together, and be best friends, doesn't mean they are gay.

  • That doesnt take away the fact that they couldve made this whole movie except with a GIRL goat.

That wouldntve been a way better story line because I mean Mei wouldve been way cuter as a girl ;D

  • Well, the story would have been the same regardless of Mei's gender. Maybe they thought that making him a girl would give hints of romance? I know that guys and girls can be friends, but maybe they thought a friendship between two males was better.

  • Lol I know Im gonna start another HUGE argument from saying this, but if you ask me, regardless of whether or not Gabus voice is Japanese, he sounds like a pedophile xDDDD

  • I just think he sounds rather cheerfu/childish.

  • wth!?

u think he sound like a pedophile!

    thats SAD! XD

  • no. how successful do you think a pedophile would be if he sounded like that?

  • there was no way i was not going too cry that was too sad i cried i havent cried for a long time

    ......stupid sad movie...*cries*

  • 6:14 ...o.O that would be a little unnerving..

  • In Japan they can say it on television, I guess the translation "softened" it because after all it's a movie for kids. But yes, it actually means shit :D pretty much the equivalent of the english word

  • lol well then that would ruin the story wouldn't it?

  • But Barry actually says "kuso" that means "shit", not "dammit" O_o

  • I thought it meant Dammit?

  • "Yes, I'm sure the weather will be good."

    *starts blizzarding*

  • blizzarding?? YOU FAIL!!!!!!!!!

    jk jk lol

  • Yea..that was seen a mile away.

Gabu: It'll clear up tomarrow right?

    Mei: Yea.

*Blizard* -_- sure..put them through more hell...Why dont you just rip the souls out..Sigh...I might be going to far with that..sorry.

  • that scene on the cliff...everything the light touches is their kingdom...but what about that shadowy place^.^ sry, reminded me of the lion king!^.^

  • ( spy dragon)friendship is too cute but i so very sad V_V!!!!!

  • LOL. Gabu may not think of Mei as food, but his stomach seems to think otherwise. xD It's funny, but their friendship is too cute. <3

  • Lol when Gabu ran like that trying to get off the log.

  • ^-~ I Saw That Blush Gabu

  • Then why are you watching the show if you don't like the characters? :B

  • :o cuz I love dis movie. :D

  • Comment removed

  • dude look at 7:20 gabu is struggling to not eat mei and mei is just smiling all like "you can eat me *smile*"

god gabu's torment is so hard to watch.

  • 6:50 makes you sad...so sad...omg

  • Man, I hoped that doesn't really happen, I hope they both come through, I mean, I even started to cry!... I but I know that probably isn't goin to happen. Anything I hope for, never comes true...

  • Lolwut

  • when did this ever come out, it's so cute. is it in full English, Gabu is the best love him

  • Gabu's despair really breaks my heart. One of this movie's most poignant scenes, imo.

  • Instead of dragging him through the snow, why didn't Gabu pick up Mei like a kitten's mum and carry him?
