Sometimes, I think Cochereau play's things to fast eg. Gigout Toccata but strangely, he plays Messiaens Dieu Parmi Nous at a slower-than-usual speed. In other words, the prefect speed. It has always confused me. Someone please explain!
Its that wonderful thing called Artistic Licence :-)
The tempo he took for some major organ works were slow, take his Bach & Dupré for example, it is strange that his approach could vary. His Vierne was taken at quick a lick!
Having listened to some of Dupré's recordings, that he wasn't immune to this either...like teacher, like pupil :-)
Yes, but they were included as a freebie with a book on French cathedral organs, but not available separately. For info please see the notes in the 'more info' section to the first part :-)
Ahh, thanks. Didn't watch the first part for a longer time now. - The 'legendary' book... Hope that someday I'll have my own copy (WITH the CD included) for a convenient price.
But Simon you are hearing the Boisseau Chamades. I must admit they are an acquired taste, in recordings only, as they were changed in the 1990 rebuild.
I'm not at all familiar with the Notre Dame instrument but the 32' Bombarde is amazing. I don't think I've ever heard anything like it!

No wonder his students are so formidable!

Vintage PC. Nothing else like it. Even the copiers such as David Briggs can't get close.
