@jaasoutaja "check" means to basically stop, like if you were on a boat on the water, you would put the oar blade perpendicular to the water, and place it in the water to stop moving. or what he said, "holding water to stop the boat"
@REEFLeafer91 OK, thanks (to all) for explaining. You can break like on water, but it needs longer distance to stop and I quess blades don't like it. To avoid a crash, it's better to change a course, this one turns very well.
Great! Can you send me some pics /vids? Maybe we can have a race one day! Those interested in ice rowing can contact me for detailed building instructions.
a pick is impossible. in the middle of a stroke the pick should be more remote from the boat/sled than in the beginning and the end. so the grippoint must be able to slide sidewards
Thanks. I used woodworking knife blades on the ends. These blades are fixed horizontally, so that they touch the ice like a skate. An angle between the ice and blade is 90 degrees. The blade is assembled oarwise. This assembly has no moving parts.
That's a great idea!!! The only problem is that you cant fix the "sculls" on ice and it slides on the top of ice, so it won't become a serious sport but it's the gratest idea I've ever seen in alternative rowing. Why don't you make a double oar ice shell?
I wonder if that is good for your blade work

whats on the end of the oars? would it slip all around while you scull?
ULT4M4T3 2 years ago
it will be a pick or something to grip onto the ice
AxelPRC 2 years ago
it has to be a skating blade or something
a pick is impossible. in the middle of a stroke the pick should be more remote from the boat/sled than in the beginning and the end. so the grippoint must be able to slide sidewards
