Thank you for uploading these historic videos, for those interested not only in history but also in military strategies are grateful, and so am I. I must also say that it was interesting to know how brave the allies -particularly, the Americans, since they fought most of the Pacific War- were, and how fearful the Japanese Empire was. After all, with the number of ships they had, they could have defeated the Americans, but decided, to retreat an run away. Thank you once again for the videos.
Nice story randy, my father in law landed on the phillipines, yes, let us remember these brave men who did their job when they were actually very young. I knew a man named Mr. Bizet, I am sure he has passed by now. Wounded more than 20 times flying avenger torpedo bombers. Twice he landed with his crew dead. Twice carriers were sunk before he got back home. He was one of the few to survive the deadliest mission. Close in with a torpedo against AA fire. I respect them all!!!
30 some years ago I dated a girl in college. Her dad served on a US carrier at the battle of Midway. When the movie "Midway" came out in '76 she didn't want to see the movie so I went with her dad. He was 19 or 20 and got wounded on board ship. He remained silent throughout, but really enjoyed the movie. Good memories of Americans at their finest. All you "kids" think it was ancient history but WW2 wasn't really very long ago. That war changed the entire world for better or worse...
This battle is the best example of the ''butterfly effect'' . If the scouting plane of Tone had not taken off ,with a 30 min delay, it would have spotted TF16 sooner and the result of the battle would be different.
You assume European utter control was a given. Great Britain remained undefeated, and the USSR was holding (though barely), and after moving elite elements from the East eventually overwhelmed German forces in the Eastern front.
Without the Americans, there wouldn't have been a Western front or an Italian front and British troops would've likely lost in Africa as well. This would've given Hitler the troops he needed to win on the Eastern front.

To be honest if they didn't directly attack the U.S. possessions given the mood of the time, they could have taken the pacific European possessions without tangible consequence.
That assumption is doubtful considering the embargo placed on Japan by the US was specifically entailed to stem here aggressive expansionist ambitions.
The attack on the US was inevitable if she was to proceed onto dominance in the Pacific. Remember, she attacked the US with the intention of eliminating a THREAT to her PLANS.
Most documentaries (and the Midway movie) use film of aircraft from later battles. Still photos are scarce too. Everyone was too busy to take pictures.
the midway battle happened in the early stages of ww2. at the time, the american forces didnt believe that the japanese forces had that strong a weaponry. also, the americans lacked battlefield experience.
Yeah the Imperial Japanese Navy was very powerful. The United States was very fortunate their carriers weren't in Pearl Harbour and did an excellent job in breaking the Japanese code. After this battle, the American war machine went into overdrive and Japanese couldn't keep up with manufacturing and training as the Americans did.
The naval aviators at Midway were incredibly brave, both American and Japanese. The way they flew into almost certain death with such discipline is hard to imagine. Most of us live such "safe" lives...
if you're interested, go read "Semper Fi In The Sky: The Marine Battles of World War Two" by gerald astor. it talks about the history of american aviation, including the battle of midway.

Also if Hitler hadn't followed up with a declaration against the US, he could've concentrated on Europe.

No, the Americans got there in 1942, when the Russians were still losing...

At 5:30/5:31, you'd think the USAAF was flying Sopwith Camels!
I wonder what kind of plane that actually is - or was?

Yeah I'm glad the Americans won. Or else, Korea would still be under the bootheels of the Emperor.

I love this story. The Americans won, although out numbered and out gunned, by intelligence, grit and a fair amount of luck
5/5 as always
