@donkeygong64 yeah, but not in a place that distracting. He is raising the criteria way to quickly. You should practice in a place without distractions before the dog park. This guy is just setting his dog up to fail. You can't just expect a dog to listen the first time you try!
He contradicted himself saying that your dog will be too distracted with all of the stimuli... yet you should always practice in public? This guy is a complete idiot. You should always train your dog in a safe, calm environment, then PROOF your dogs behavior slowly and gradually. Maybe his dog would actually listen to him if he knew what he was doing. Or enjoy being with him for that matter, Bear wasn't focused at all.
@liliannx3 well he didn't say to train the dog for the first time in public... he said PRACTICE in public... he even mentioned that your quiet backyard is the perfect classroom... this is obviously not Bears first time doing this, it was practice
One of the biggest mistakes dog owners make is they get an 8 week old puppy and want to cuddle with it for 6 months until it becomes a problem then they plead for help when the dog can outrun them and is too big to control. Start recalling your pup the day you get him and reward with treats. Do this a few minutes each day and at a year of age your dog won't deliberate in his mind for 1/2 a second on whether or not to come to you. It will be automatic.
retarted becauswe his dog is disaplinded to all these tricks and some dogs r easly amused god y would they do that if they allready now how to do it X.x
I have never trained my dog on a leash, you have to spend time with them from when they are a pup.If you train them daily then you don't have to worry about them not listening. That's why I think some people shouldn't have dogs, they complain that they don't listen but the owner/owner's, don't take the time to train them the proper way.
sheesh that recall is a hard command to master yaa you can do it on a leash and my dog does it 10 out of 10 times but take that leash off and am in trouble
Hey USA, I train Police K9's for a living. Your problem is very common. It can be solved however. You need to make it a reflex to come rather than a command. Make sure your dog gets paid everytime he comes to you. Keep some chopped up hotdogs on hand in the fridge. When it's time to come in from relieving himself, always have a treat ready. If you train on this everyday for a week, 20 min per day on a long 30 ft rope you will make significant progress in making this a reflex action.
@sixthday132 Hi. I don't fall out with the principle you are suggesting but I think at best you will create an instantaneous, habitual response. To refer to it as a reflex I think is misleading. Recalling hungry dogs at meal times is a good way to add more depth to your cue as is recalling the dog when it is panicking because it can't see you. Also 20 mins a day seems rather excessive?
@guy2932 Not sure what principal you are referring to brother, just one method among several that can be useful. One thing I've learned in this dog business is rarely is there only one route to the destination you are trying to arrive at. I like your recalling/panicking concept and use it often. I make it a hide and seek game. Works great for the hard cases. I guess if you don't like the term "reflex" we can use "conditioned response" which would be more appropriate I suppose. take care
Seriously? Does this guy get repeat customers or recommendations from old clients? Dude, Seriously. Take these videos down before some young fresh mind actually thinks these methods will work.
amen......this guys methods are not very good. First of all he should have a controlled environment with few distractions when beginning this type of training. You only introduce these distractions in a more advanced dog. Notice how the shepherd barely gave him the time of day? Take this posting down.
My border collie actually responds to treats. He's fed proper proportions and gets plenty of exercise. If they are fed too much they won't favor the treat as much. Also training should be after you tire out your dog not before when they're hyper. They are definately the smartest dogs but treats do work.
i agree... hes just leading the dog around and talking to much between commands, which would confuse the dog (and myself, i must say)
the dog isnt interested in the owner with all those distractions, this is why its better to train it in a quiet place first and slowly introduce the distractions (dogs, people, noise ect.)........ otherwise its just confusing and chaos.
It would be great if this guy would demonstrate commands without a treat in his hand constantly. Ofcourse the dog is going to follow him when there is a treat two inches from its nose.
this guy is not a good trainer, and he does not have control over his dog, as evidenced by him grabbing another dogs snout and snarling at the beginning of the video. that dog was not relaxed at all, and pulling your dog to you doesn't = come. this guy blows majorly. just sayin...
you should see the one where he is "teaching" how to stop your dog from barking, its explains why the dog is so tense the guys cant stop grabbing and touching his ears.
very stupid indeed. . whats d name of this guy???? im searchin for dog trainers n he's the one who look like he dont know a thing. all his videos have negative comments...
that's not a "how to train your dog to come" - that's just letting your dog know that he's on a leash and he has to follow you wherever you go. if your dog knows the command "come" it should not be necessary to put the dog on a leash.
hey i have some question i have a 2 months puppy and i wanted to know how can i make my puppy to stop bitting and to come when i tell him to also this may be strange but i think he hates me cause he go and follows everyone except me pls help me and thanks
thats poitnless, i thought the whole point of training ur dog to come when called is when he is off the lead! he might as well say come and start dragging his dog home! does he play fetch with his dog on that lead?
A major flaw I saw is Bear sits prematurely, and he actually goes to the dog and rewards. He should have told the dog to come come come, while moving backwards to get the dog to come to him and sit. That and it seemed the dog had no enthusiasm...the distractions were great though. Good for basics but not for serious competition style IMO.
Shame, treats??? This is not obedience but corruption!!!

This guy is an idiot. You can tell that his dog is very well trained. It gets distracted easily, and this is NOT a good way to teach a dog to come.
beehappy718 10 months ago
@beehappy718
well i see it as step number 1. you would obviously have to let the dog off leash and practice to achieve the full effect

No, biting in puppies is not acceptable, even if they are teething.
You have to get them out of it at a young age or when they grow up there could be problems.
