  • Belts or chains slow it down a lot try gears which are better or try to attaching the motor on the bottom with the original shaft instead. which rotates better and without any lost in gearing as well. Two better ways to go than the belts and the noise that go with it.

  • @Mrinfoone that is true, since then, i have been experimenting with direct drive only.

  • That's cool how the generator/motor thing starts turning BEFORE the gearing system.

  • @johnnnyreb51, that was part of my beginig testing and seting up the pully correctly. the idea here is the setup ratio.

  • nice video. I am hoping to build a VAWT and was going to attach it directly to the motor. But after seeing your videos a pulley system would be a lot better. Where did you get you pulleys from ? thanks

  • waheex, i bought the pullies from TSC stores.

the lift vawt is a better and more effecient system.

    sam

  • thanks again sam you are a constant source of inspiration keep up the good work!

  • nice one its good to see the humble beginings and i did laugh when the pulley wheel fell off thanks for posting all your successes and ... well:-)

  • @TheJimmax, it is funny when i look back at the begining..but i think i am on the right track now...this will show others that you can learn all kinds of tricks in few years!..

    regards

    sam

  • thanks for the laugh gotta love things like that.was that a blooper inserted into you video.funny stuff keep it up

  • Why isn't the gear secured? I have to admit that I laughed my ass off when it fell off the first time, reminded me of something I would do...forget to secure it lmao. Good work but it would be nice to see the power it's making and it's very difficult to see the meter. Oh and for the love of God, secure the damn gear down! It sounds like Disney's haunted house in your garage...

  • dude..lol..that was back when i started with the vawt projects. please check out the new projects..

    regaRDS

  • just a suggestion you would be better served using a flat drive belt and pulley, it consumes less of the energy you are producing

  • Fascinating video, this might be your first build but have you thought of using a toothed belt to cut down on friction drag, regards Doc Cox

  • got oil?

  • Demaciado ruido, alta fricción

  • Yes thank you for the video of the generator, much appreciated

  • you welcome

  • Lol...an honest instructional, well done. Every vid I've seen show mostly the blade and turbine structure, not the working, generator and gearing bits. Finally you may have started a trend. thanks!!

  • i was just showing the tough time i was having to gearing it...lol

this project is on hold for now, soon i will get back to it...

    regrads

  • hahaha, love how it just falls apart.

  • that was one of my first attempts, i was showing the bad setup with the good....lol

  • OK May be just a little cometary would be nice.

  • sorry bud, i sure will do that next time, i am planing to use an ametek on it.

    regards

  • whats the motor you are using there?

  • that was a treadmill dc motor, not the best for a vawt.

  • i lost a bit of energy, it takes a bit more wind for it to start with this kind of gearing, but once it is going then it is fine.

  • did gearing it down work? i'm thinking about doing it i'm worried i'll lose too much torque
