I think the whole point of the film was to make a horror film (horror?) which incorporated some of the fun and quirks of the genre, and to make a film which, instead of being necessarily just about retribution where someone lives, shows the killers are fairly remorseless and pretty indifferent. I just watched this movie for the millionth time last night. I do see great irony in this. At some points in this movie, you can't help but love these characters because they're a funny, loving family to each other. They're just really sick in the head towards everyone else. And in the end, they ended up feeling helpless like so many of their victims. Awesome movie though. One of my all time favorites.
