  • Hah, I remember bringing the mame emulator to school and playing this game (two-player) with the kid next to me. Teacher didn't give two shits and we were playing on one keyboard. He kept telling me to spam bombs, but I think it's more fun if you use your skill...

  • It's never worthwhile bombing for score in this game. Bomb bonus massively exceeds any points you could get.

  • call me 418-5298325

  • how do u do double play with tha mame program

  • Put both players' controls on the same gamepad?

  • I've been waiting for 2P Play of Dodonpachi series... but Double Play? That's even better!

  • good god, solo-double play is supremely entertaining to watch and play. I tried it once on DDP and ESPGaluda 2, and even though I didn't get very far till I had 1 player left, it was wicked cool.

  • Wow! You got awesome hand-eye coordination... or whatever that's called. :P I'm jealous!

I tried this with a Logitech PS2 style controller with the game Cyber-Lip (a Metal Slug style game) with one character controlled by D-Pad and the other controlled by the four buttons and... uh... ouch! Yeah it's pretty hard. :P But so much freaking fun!

  • just cracy ;)

  • So it's not that hard to do solo two player on a shmup huh? I should try that for fun with Outzone sometime

  • Actually, it's a *lot* harder to dodge bullet patterns with 2 players (unless you keep them in the same place ;) because you have to keep alternating your focus from one ship to the other. But on the plus side, you get 2x as many bombs and the levels are much easier because the screen won't fill with enemies :). It's a lot of fun either way, so you should give it a shot!

  • Y'know what if you could make a movie of your hands, that would be a total thrill :D

  • Hehehe. Well, if I get a recorder of some kind one day then I'll see what I can do :).

I don't think it'd be that great though o.O . I'm just using a Logitech controller that's like a PS2 controller, with my thumbs on the 2 joysticks and my index and middle fingers on the 4 top buttons.

  • I just tried solo-two player with Toaplan's "Dogyuun" and beat the first 2 stages with no deaths. It was fun as hell too! Can't believe I pulled it off.

  • I did things a little differently with the D-Pads though. I set both P1 and P2 on the Cross/Left Analog moving them both simultaneously, and set P2 on Right Analog moving it only when necessary.

  • Hehe, I told you double-play was fun b^_^d.

That's a curious way of setting up the controls. Do you keep the ships in the same location on the screen?

Also, is there any chance we'll get some gameplay vids of your solo-two player ventures? :)

  • It's too bad... Dodonpachi isn't exactly the most 2 player friendly game. A hypothetical perfect Double Play run would have you using one ship to do all the work, while the other just looks pretty and maybe attracts a few bullets away from the other ship.

  • Thanks for the comments. I was inspired by VTF-INO's amazing double-play videos for Ikaruga :).

Later I might try to see how far I can survive with both ships. I've tried it before and it's actually not that bad: you get a *lot* of bombs with 2 ships ;). Unfortunately, it might not be very entertaining to watch :P.

  • That's brave: I did such things only when I was playing Virtua Cop.

  • that's kinda cool that you're doing both...
