  • "both of us are building tiny houses" Because we are clones!

  • Wouldn't this be a good idea for low income or homeless people? Maybe also a good idea for disaster struck areas like Haiti where thousands of people are still homeless? Doesn't seem to take many people to build it nor expertise so costs should be really low.

  • If you own a big house, you will waste money filling it with useless crap you don't need. If you live in a small house you will have no room for the useless crap. You will also notice it costs less to heat and cool. and maintain. my house is under 600 sqft.

  • "Dee built her home herself ... using blue prints she found on the internet ... and enlisting the help of friends with carpentry experience..."

  • i WANT ONE!

  • "Great stuff" I live next to the company that makes that shit.

  • "matt, who's married with a baby"

    WhAT?

    lol

  • For $10K you can buy a sweet 5th wheel that is self contained WITH running water! Frickin greentards.

  • @XRedneckElevatorManX Go to an RV show and breathe deep. You'll get a good whiff of some nice unhealthy off-gassing. Just ask all those FEMA trailer folks.

  • @NeoLudditeDave All new products release chemicals due to adhesives and plastics.. Used 5th wheels have already off gassed. You don't think the adhesives and materials used on this trailer released chemicals after installation? What about the stain used to treat the wood products? Even the tires used on the trailer base for the foundation released chemicals,as well as the black paint used to paint the metal frame structure. Nice try at being witty, better luck next time!

  • dr who lives in the tardus

  • I really don't understand why they are glorifying this. Just seems like a better quality mobile home/trailer. Don't get me wrong its cool, but not an original concept.

  • I have the same sexy toilet. I live on business property so I can barter my living there for free.

  • My biggest question is what do you do if you don't have friends to park your house on?

  • @Twisted86 buy an acre of farm land and plat it there. I paid about 6k for 1 acre.

  • This minimalist life-style is becoming a norm, but only a small percentage of the population is able to live like this. No plumbing, no showers, few modern conveniences. My spouse would die before doing this.

  • Ummhmm what would yhu do if yhu wanted to have a dinner party

  • @gwizz1780 rent the holiday inn with all the money you saved.

  • ...I was thinkin' along these lines way back in the 60's and I was left by those who knew me as insane...kin never win...now I'm a cripple and stuck permanently in one room ennyways...ftw...

  • No diagonal bracing in those walls.

  • @cptcosmo Does it need it? Is it small enough that it doesn't matter?

  • @sonsofmosiah If it were on a standard foundation with foundation ties, it probably would be fine, but going down the road, going up driveway/curb ramps will impart a lot of torques and twists and stick framed building would never experience. Eventually, with nails only, the structure would start to pull apart without additional lateral bracing. One easy way to avoid this is to use steel studs, which are screwed together, or use SimpsonStrongtie type connectors at every

  • @cptcosmo wood member connection point. Diagonal bracing can easily be done with strapping or building the walls as stress-skin panels...

  • @cptcosmo Ahh, yes, I hadn't thought of that.

  • It's totally amazing how much you can fit into a structure this small. I love small spaces and could live in one of these homes but not sure if I could live in one year round, maybe as a summer home. I applaud her for teaching and helping others to build their own. Great video and great little home!!

  • Anyone know what house is pictured @ 5:30?

  • @evolutionseed I think it's Jerry Seinfeld's.

  • Cool idea, but I laughed my ass off when that guy was talking about moving into one of those with his wife and new baby. Can anyone say divorce? For one person they'd be great. Any more than that and you'd kill eachother.

  • so she put her house in someones back yard and pays no rent. so, she's a leech

  • @SomeRandomFeller I guess that's between her and the homeowner.

  • See rich people don't need to pay more taxes. Americans just need to start living in 300sq ft homes. Thanks Republicans.

  • i couldnt live in that house, im clostrophobic

  • It's so inspiring! I really want to do this. Even if it's just as an RV. <3

  • hippi

  • @paperking09 if being a hippi means your not homeless then i dont see the problem. i do see a problem in people like you who are judgemental but forget you also have your dark secrets and faults. shall we bring them to light?

  • @paperking09 snorkel!

  • I hate it how people have to blame this so called economy for why they're living in such crap life styles. They can't take responsibility for their own actions

  • @MegaDeathwarrant

Some people prefer a more simple lifestyle anyways.

  • @MegaDeathwarrant Yeah! Those people that lose their jobs through no fault of their own have a lot of nerve trying to conserve energy and save money. What a bunch of communists!! Good Lord you're a douchebag! No one in this video was complaining about their lifestyle. Why don't you post a video showing us how smart you are for living in a mansion and heating it in the winter. Let's see your astronomical utility bills, that'll show us! We'll feel so stupid with extra money in the bank!

  • @sonsofmosiah Nice idiotic comment.

  • @MegaDeathwarrant Actually it was brilliantly sarcastic and well crafted. Honestly I'm surprised you spelled idiotic correctly. Are you a Megadeath fan? You're a bit of a crybaby like Dave Mustaine.

  • @sonsofmosiah Judging from your childish comments, you're obviously younger than 10 so I'll let this slide.

  • @MegaDeathwarrant Wow! What an insult! I must be younger than 10! Yes, I'm 5 months old. You must admit I'm doing pretty well for my age. I'm already potty trained-open your mouth. One other thing that's hilarious about your original post is that you claim these people can't take responsibility for their own actions. Well, kid, this video shows people doing nothing but taking responsibility for their actions, jackass. Your line of thinking resembles that of a 10 year old.

  • This home is intended to be a home, not a structure lived in for a few days a year like most RVs are. An RV trailer is designed to be light, cheap and almost throw away. They typically won't stand up to long hard use. This home will. Building of high end material at the end of the supply chain is a recipe for high cost in any home. Most of the homes in the world don't have a mortgage. They are built small of local material because a lack of a loan enforces economy of material and size.

    I

  • I want a tour of the tiny house on 5:30

  • @Vottaro It's my house and you can't see it unless you pay me $50,000.00.

  • 8:30 Miraculously, they were able to shift that frame with ONLY SIX PEOPLE!

Way to go, Hercules! I'll bet they needed a nap after that one.

And a small "house" ... on "wheels"? If only someone could invent something like that, which wasn't made out of 4x4s, nails and ashpalt shingles and doesn't weigh 20 tons? Perhaps something you could even tow behind a car or a pickup truck? What's that? You say they have, and you can buy a used one really cheap? Oh...

  • what kind of heater is in the living room, thanks

  • Now if you can only figure out how to power it from the good feelings you have about yourself.

Every one of these people remind me of my miserable old hippy relatives.

All the lonely people, where do they all come from?

  • 8:30 LOLOL

  • most these "off the grid "trailer guys have a 2000sq ft home beside there 200 sq ft "living" area.....

  • these videos make me laugh.i have never lived in a 4000sqft home worth 400 000$ for my entire life so for MOST of us this would be more then what we have now! which is a rental property or bank ownd home!most of us own nothing other then tv electronics and a junker car.....d's house was over 20gs! i would love to have a 20 000$ house

  • Good for you? I like the Tiny house movement but whats the purpose of freeloading off others? She is living off of other peoples debt and carbon print.

  • Right On !!!!!!!!

  • 8:30

    lift with the knees

    not the legs

    lift with the knees

    not the legs

    fucking women

  • @Maper555 Yeah, always lifting with their dicks.

  • For 10.000$ you would get a used deluxe fully equipped motorhome 3 times the size she has there.

  • @deliquenme I do believe you may be missing the point.

  • why not just get a trailer? or 5th wheel

  • @matthockleeyvictoria expensive

  • @Freddypalms free

  • @Freddypalms Yeah, $10,000.00 to build. If you're going to pay that much you might as well just buy a $250,000.00 house.

  • @matthockleeyvictoria Because then you'd look like one of those jackasses that has a trailer or 5th wheel. At least these have a little style and personality.

  • @sonsofmosiah then get a motorhome there high class

  • @matthockleeyvictoria Nope. They're tacky pieces of shit owned by tacky people.

  • @sonsofmosiah wata bout rv or motorhome

  • @matthockleeyvictoria See previous comment.

  • @sonsofmosiah motorhome's are awsome

  • @matthockleeyvictoria

Because there are a lot of people, like me, who would prefer to live in a house that actually looks like a house, that is built with our own two hands. I'd rather live in a house made of wood than an aluminum trailer.

  • Me and my partner are considering building a house, and are looking at ways we can do it without getting much more than a personal loan, instead of a mortgage, which is a huge amount of debt to live with for so many years. I love the mobility of building on a trailer, we could even do two and tow them if we ever moved. It'd be like a little gypsy convoy! I love the idea of self-building because I wouldn't need an engineering degree to make sure it'll stay upright!

  • There wouldn't b enough room for my hairproducts n that lol thing.... I can fit that house into my room.. Omg.. But well built.

  • Ecofriendly. Hah! Finances friendly.

  • I have been living in Nissan Xterra for the past two years (videos on my channel), but lately have been interested in something similar to this tiny house idea. My only issue would be finding someone willing to let me place one on their property here in Berkeley, CA. Leaving this area to find a new job and property for a tiny house is feasible too I guess.

  • To all of you people complaining about a fireplace and a A/C

1: You can get electric fireplaces for as little as 80$

2: a window airconditioner would be more than enough for this house.

  • I envy this so much! I too had a similar desire to build and live off grid after selling my Portland home a few years back... I took to buying many videos, books and the likes on green building, living etc...,all of which I love i.e. the best DVD ever on low impact building (Building with Awareness.) I think the reason I talked myself out of trying to build was that I never discovered the same scene of community that this program offers, I feared the inexperience of trying it alone.Good Work!

  • It's nice to have those kind of friends you can freeload off, I mean I guess these people had to buy the land and pay taxes on it. Who makes sure these trailers are safe every year with these new age hippies to run around the country? Wait for a while when there becomes more and more of these people running around the country, parked up on the sides of roads, in parks and forests, with trailers becoming dangerous, the government will soon make sure you are not off the grid any more!

  • @britfin007 I thought these trailers had to be registered and inspected every year just like other vehicles on the road. It is obviously illegal to move a trailer this size that hasn't. The law already provides penalties for for people that don't mind the safety of others. We have plenty of problems already with people trying to move much larger mobile homes that are in such bad condition they're literally falling to pieces all over the highway.

  • I'd love to meet this women, she's hot!

  • $10,000? For that much money you can buy yourself a pretty decent house in the Philippines...

With two bathrooms and an air conditioner.

  • @kkjgg112391 Yeah, 'cause everyone dreams of living in the Philippines!

  • @sonsofmosiah I can sense a bit of sarcasm on your comment, Philippines isn't as horrible as the media make it look like. You have no idea how wonderful this place is if you haven't even gone here yet.

  • @aaaaaaaaaaaa49506 it would be nice to see an intentional community that bans RVs and trailers and only allows tiny homes. If you put in some amenities like a community center, and govern it by something like an HOA to keep people from using the land inappropriately, maybe it might get past the zoning board. Or at least, that's my pipe dream in this neck of the woods.

  • To each their own! If it works for her (and also to the advantage of the older woman who is sharing her backyard) I think it's great.

  • Close Captioning at 5:44 "[sound of construction]" LOL!

  • awsome house

  • Wow !!! She's a real "catch" huh?

  • A Great addition to these houses is ECO URINAL...a waterless no smell unisex urinal...see it on e bay

  • @1marceltony If you're pissing in it-there's no such thing as no smell.

  • If you do not understand the ideologies or practicalities behind the tiny house movement, there are many resources. Please Google "tiny house" or anything along those lines and learn. The consumptive view of America is over blown, we can all live good, luxurious, and comfortable, prospering lives with much less than we have. Please consider owning less and living more! <3 At least for a moment!

  • @aaaaaaaaaaaa49506 Any city can offer you a 3 day notice to comply, then you have 3 days to move it. Dee's home has a composting toilet (i.e. no hook up) though it is quite easy to plumb in with modern technologies. Water is portaged in by hand, & electric is most often solar- hence no need for hook-ups. This is about independence and OWNING what you have, not OWING. People WILL in fact, let you park, by the way, you just don't know the right people... yet! :)

  • wow. it looks so cute, but I don't think I would be able to live in such a small house. I'm too much of a materialistic and spacious type of person.

If there was a way to have a lot, but compact-on-the-road, then maybe :)

  • This is Awesome!!! I love it.. :)

  • @Tootallspottery Indeed! Its too great. Research, there is in fact, a very large, tiny house movement! good luck :)

  • its like a cell

  • "lift with the knees!" as she lifts with her back..

  • cool

  • jim carey

  • @bierrumm105 me and two friend of mine started building 3 little cottages but its really hard to do

  • @MrMinthus Good on you, it IS very hard to do, in fact. Keep up the good work, aim for the dream of financial freedom!

  • economic situation = poverty

  • @jeffdustin "economic situation= not living in debt, furthermore- OWNING what you have". If you, personally, have ZERO debt and OWN everything you have, good on you! You're doing it right! If you have credit cards, and home loans, and student loans, then Dee wins. She's free from your chosen yoke of debt. to each his own, to Dee? it's financial freedom. If every dollar you made was "fun money" because all your debt is paid off, you might, feasibly, have more fun. Notions!

  • @rebeccalegia What I intended to say was that when she said economic situation I think she meant poverty. I agree that debt is awful and the world is awash in its evil grip. Also, the tiny house movement is lovely, though I'd like to see more examples of small houses as solutions to world debt problems. Show me an inexpensive small house that doesn't require living off from another's charity and I would be quite impressed. Schafer's houses are expensive and unaffordable.

  • That the kind of life I want

  • @coolrayfruge You're working on it! Please continue!!! If only research, it will plant the 'bug' in you as it has in me, I promise! Your independence starts now~ good luck!

  • I would like to have a small house but not this small and not on wheels

  • no profit yet??? 5X 200$ drill, brand new 500$ makita mitre saw... ect. NO KIDDING!??!

  • they make those house on wheel because they can escape most of the building code.

because normally a bedroom should have minimal 6X6 foot and a 2X2 window.

  • ...so-o-o-o easy to maintain and tidy-up...

  • I bet shes single....

  • i want a house like that..my wife doesnt..ill just let her buy a normal house and i will buy a little piece of her backyard :))

  • a bum living off the backs of others

  • House at 5:12 is bad ass!

  • For all the Ted Kaczynski's out there

  • good for you!!! i had a 1951 international pickup in 1978. i wanted to live in the camper and travel. being a woman, my family so frowned upon this dream, it was destroyed. but years later, i have had another truck camper, then a trailer, then a 1978 rv and now also an acre with a tiny house in the woods. i am nearly 60 years of age and finally have what i have wanted all my life: a home in the woods, paid for with cash, no debt, all green, off the grid and once again NO DEBT!

  • @sunne1954home you go girl! ;) i woke up to this idea quite recently and have no support as well, but with the internet its a bit easier to keep nay-sayers blocked out and focus on the positive :) luckly i did a bit of diy'ing so i have powertools skills and a bit of design-oriented head with me :) this year I go for it, first tho, to downtempo my life and start a career as a fruit packer / tofu factory worker, since i think its the best thing to do in the world :)

  • i love it! may not be for everyone but love the less stuff idea

  • a friend of mine is going to start building his this next month, I lv the idea and how you can challenge yourself to live less and yet make it nice

  • So I'm a little confused here. The lady said she didn't do any plumbing because she had no experience and was afraid of leaks. But yet she has a toilet. So follow me for a second here lets say she has to take a massive shit where does the waste go in the poor old ladies back yard? I'm just thinking of that scene from Christmas Vacation where Uncle Eddie is dumping raw sewage in the storm drain smoking a cigar and the neighbor walks out he says shitters full. Give me a break.

  • Why are there so many lesbians flocking around this trend?

  • this better than watching MTV cribs. So you don't have to turn your house look like Walmart.

  • its easy to live in a 10X10 house when you have no friends or significant other, are easily amused and are high often.

  • @syngar99 and you can keep unwanted people away and also meet friends out and about

  • Have you checked that dog for a pulse?

  • I'm obsessively fascinated with these small homes.. very interesting!

  • I joke that I'm putting my adult child in a shed in the backyard. This girl actually lives in one.

  • omg my dream house to bad im broke and earrning 10 grand aint easy id have to spend years in a shitty job :( TBH they look easy to steal i might just rob a house

  • @royton1992 Yeah, there should be some kind of mooring post or something that would be hard to get the house off of. Maybe take the wheels off and replace them with something that makes a hellacious noise if you try to tow the thing.

  • "Some of the newer trailers are nicer that homes I've had!"... WOW, that's a sad statement! Not me!

  • awsome.

  • Who just hacked into my shit? I never looked this video up.

  • LOL@ 8:26 five people lifting that wall! I can build that entire shed by myself LOL

  • I would buy small piece of land and place this house.

  • Comment removed

  • How come you didn't make the width all the way out to the end rails off the wheel wells. Wouldn't you have had an extra foot of width space? Is there a regulation about doing it?

  • as cute as it is,, she is living in her neighbors back yard,, they are paying the property tax on the land she is living on for free..

  • With all that saved money why not buy some land? Its all fun and games until your friend politely tells you they are sick of looking at your trailer in the back yard and to get lost. I like the idea of it but I'd rather just pop for a 30' park model trailer instead. I see zero advantage of this little house built on a trailer frame over a conventional trailer thats pre-plumbed for running water, fridge, stove etc. Some of the newer trailers are nicer that homes I've had!

  • @MaliciousSRT Aren't they way more expensive though?

  • @Aeronauticalexplorer LOL No, you can pick up a 30-35 foot trailer in good shape for $800. Nice parks require all trailers to be under 10 years old..so the oldies go for near scrap prices and the trailer joint that ends up with them just flips them for nothing.

  • @MaliciousSRT $800? More like $25,000 for a decent one.

  • @MaliciousSRT Some states, like NC for instance, have laws that say you cannot move a mobile home or manufactured home that is more than 10 years old, due to safety reasons. If it's bigger than a camper/utility trailer, and you need a wide load permit, you can't move it. Other states will probably follow suit in the near future. Better buy that trailer at 9.5 years, you know? Otherwise, you've got to sell land and trailer, and there's also zoning about how many can be on a certain size lot.

  • @MaliciousSRT lots of trailers that are over 10 years in NC get torn down and put for scrap because it's illegal to move a mobile home or manufactured home older than that.

  • @MaliciousSRT I agree about the land piece... but I think part of the advantage to a smaller model is spiritual. You may find something special about living in something just on the edge of very small. And buying something generic vs. building something yourself, sized for you are completely different experiences, I'd say.

  • @MaliciousSRT she can go and live anywhere, she is 100% off the grid and dosent pay any bills, this means she can buy mad food and go live next to some amazing lake and when she is tiered of that view she can move anywhere she wants

  • @MaliciousSRT One advantage I can see is the lack of formaldehyde. But, it's Your health, go for the 30'.

  • @MaliciousSRT That's when I tell my neighbor to mind their own damned business and to go to hell until they start paying my property taxes. I wouldn't live in something that small either but home is where the heart is so more power to her.

  • @MaliciousSRT u got it bud. park model is the way to go

  • @MaliciousSRT Many people who are part of the tiny house movement DO want to purchase land. Because of the zoning laws put in place in the 1950's there are many hurdles to overcome, and a lot of land available will not accept homes under 400 sq ft, OR will not allow the fact that they are mobile. In many towns or cities if one person complains you have 3 days to move your tiny house. In many states you can not purchase land and put an "RV" on it as a living space. It is illegal.

  • @MaliciousSRT When it comes to advantages, it is a matter of perspective. Many tiny homes are more costly per square foot than conventional "large" homes. Point being, you can use higher quality materials in lower quantity & end up with a craftsman home. Dee's choice to skip the plumbing is but a fraction of the overall movement. Since technology is so good, its easy to plumb a tiny house with a variety of options, composting, incinerating, or traditional plumb. Hope this helps!

  • How do you get around building codes if it is not built on a trailer, or if you do build on a trailer and they do not allow people to live in a trailer?

  • I@MichaelTuozzolo i think square footage of a structure has something to do with it. If its under a certain amount of sq.f. the codes do not apply.

  • @halfasser Why yes, sir or madam, you are justly correct. Sincere and actual kudos!

  • @MichaelTuozzolo this is the main problem.. it's so hard to find a place to park that for many it's a nonstarter..

  • And we are officially becoming gypsies.

  • Very cool! but how is this any different than trailer living?

  • @johnsharptool space wise not to much but It would be nice to make alterations on something with common materials and construction.

  • @johnsharptool Not by much...but at least she doesn't have to worry about: eviction; property taxes; high utility bills; huge maintenance bills and the list goes on. Makes sense...just one more great example of what people are doing to get in sync and live small. I love it all...I'm going this route. ASAP.

  • @davehutchinson67 And if you were talking about a travel trailer my bad. I assumed you were talking about a trailer park trailer.

  • downsizing that makes sense

  • Comment removed

  • I would love to have the skills to build this kind of house bec. it is so useful for poorer people in hard parts of the world. But, u make me so thankful for my one bedroom condo. I couldn't stand the claustrophobia of such a small house. However, taking it on the road would be very awesome.

  • @shygirlnow2011 do have a look at straw bale houses, which are simply about one eight to one fifth of the cost of any other construction method for the same square footage.

I'm planning on one myself. Three words

    'Twelve Oaks Plantation' = $3,500.

  • My hats off to you Dee !! Giving people hope and senceof full fillment for a ever hard present life in todays world ..

  • If it were not for Dee we wouldn't be where we are now. Its because of her that our lives changed. Never once did I feel she tried to sell me on anything. I consider her a voice of reason in fact. She seemed to be under the same duress that we were. Unsure about a unsure future, living beyond ones own means, being comfortable being the oddball. I never once felt it was some hippie agenda being stuffed down our throats. If i do ever meet her I will take a knee and kiss her hand.

  • I didn't chose this lifestyle to be ECO friendly or because I can't afford an other option. I used to be a logger and now I do construction and I need to move to where the work is. renting or owning a home just doesn't work for me. by time I settle in to a place it's almost time to move on.. this works for me because I'm mobile in a mobile trade and the trade off is worth it.. if I had permanent work in one location I'd never do it..

  • @MrMeanderthal We live very comfortably and feel like we give up nothing to do so. We are not doing this to save the earth. I was a NY chef for 25 years and have worked more hours than most people do in 50. We live next to Glacier national park and spend our time hiking, camping, fishing and snowboarding when most people have to work for crap they don't need. We gave up space for time, but comfort..no. If I've learned anything in life the more people have, the more you they are unhappy.

  • @megathome yup, when I was logging on Vancouver Island it was great. there were no problems at all but this video shows someone living in town in someone's back yard. since I've done both I can tell you there's a hundred miles of difference between the two. this video makes it seem a lot easier and cheaper than it really is. building is the easy part. parking is a whole different story. Dee is VERY lucky to find someone who will let her park and use her shower. she is the exception.

  • @MrMeanderthal We may be the exception too... we have not had a hard time at all finding a place to park it. We pay a menial amount for rent and generally people like to have an extra income. It's just that easy. I know that in Dee's situation in this video she was living in the yard of an elderly woman and traded space in exchange for company and caregiving.

  • Not trying to sell anything. I understand that this is not a life for most people, I can only tell you this is the best decision for us. We worked our lives away to always live paycheck to paycheck. We barely got by and were constantly stre
