  • Damn, the nostalgia... the fact you even let the loading in, really brings memories. This was actually one of the "fast" loading games. Some others, I would start to load them before dinner, go eat calmly, and then play the game once I was done. :) If it had loaded correctly, that is... anyone remembers the frustration of having a loading error and having to start over? *sigh*

  • 7:30 i always thought that those two monsters where toilet bowls from hell with their seats going up and down wanting to eat you

  • Must be fake . No computer act like this ...

  • @RolandRhodes1 yeah whatever. Clearly you weren't around in the early 1980s.

  • @kingqueen3065

Just joking , I was there . Jet set willy was also one of my fav, jetpac and daley thompsons sportgame

  • Did`nt ya just love it when, at the end of the loading, it came up ( R tape loading error )

  • Old, good times. It was amaizing. Waiting, and waiting, yeahhh it's ok, no loading error

  • @160175jack if it crashed when loading it was ALWAYS right at the end lol

  • The best bit is 1.24 really kicks off then. sounds like yesterday.

  • Y el tiempo de carga con esas rayas infernales? :-)

  • This way my fav game of all, how we used to wait for it to load, they wouldn't wait that long now!! Oh and the despair when loading it and it crashed near the end!!! But we just loaded it again. Good times :)

  • haha.. I'm just imagining the excitement when these games first came out... like space invaders... "OMG guys!!! this amazing game called space invaders is coming out this summer for Atari!!!".... "really?" ... "Yeah i saw some pictures in a magazine, it looks amazing!!! You have to move left and right and shoot at these monsters at the top of the screen, but you get fully destructable castles to hide behind!!!!" "Woohhhh just think where we'll be in another 10 years!"

  • Jesus. I even remember the way the loading sounds went. Great memories. Looks so antiquated now though.

  • Ooooh the memories this brings back :-)

  • my FIRST game ever played on a homecomputer .......

  • cool

  • da da da da daaaaaaaa da da da da da daaaaaaaa ekkkkkkkkk da da da da da

  • The loading screen is a sound i miss. Heh miss the spectrum days.

  • Some of the sounds the Spectrum made as the tapes loaded were wonderful. :)

  • awesome

  • very cool takes me right back to the early eighties

  • This is madness!

  • Mmmmm Eugene's lair, yep thats about as far as i ever got on this game!

  • can I just say thank you very much for the nostalgia x I was 14 yrs old when I got my first speccy (zx spectrum 48k) WOW what fun me, my sisters and brothers and friends had playing this game....I also remember the ultimate play the game... and who can forget...Daley Thompsons decathlon!!!! We bashed the keyboard so hard, It needed a new membrane!!!!! My sis told me about this speccy nostalgia on youtube..... Thank you very much for the wonderful memories xo........

  • Thumbs up if this was your first game ever. I know it was because it was not loading thanks to the stupid cartridge of my timex 2068. Simply the cartridge was not well inserted. So we spend almost 3 days without playing. Just trying to tune the cassete player. ;)

  • I was the only boy at school who could not finish all the levels. I felt really humiliated. In the end I think I had to use the cheat codes to see the final screen/level. Super mario ripped off matthew smith.

  • @edwardszzz Well actually, in an interview Matthew Smith himself said that he stole gameplay elements from an Atari 2600 game called miner 2049'er. That being said, he put his own british twist to it and came up with a fantastic and fresh-looking game that innovated on the spectrum (Sound in-game without a sound chip, genius!)

  • they just don't make loading screens like that anymore..... :(

  • loading sound scare me

  • This brings me back to the mid 80's great stuff

  • It really is very very sad, but I also like listening to this load!!! Especially when you get to the point where you can recognise a game through the loading sounds!

  • Used to hate waiting 5 minutes for a game to load and then it would crash lol

  • Its definatly an emu im 48k mode.

  • @bazfanv2 It blooming well is not.

  • @bazfanv2 you can mod the 48k spectrum to composite video and he captured it with a PC capture card

  • Classic my first computer.

  • jetset willy was a sequal to this

  • Just bought a Spectrum on eBay, loaded it up and...ow my ears! But fun! Pain has never felt so good! Thanks for uploading this, now I can torture others like I was tortured!

  • Amstrad version was and is seriously classier! Far better sounds and colour. The spectrun made a lot of doot doot type noises!!

No Phyle it's not Jet Set Willy. The fact that it said Miner on the loading screen for over 5 minutes should be a wee clue!!

  • @markyflynn I am an Amstrad man through and through and the CPC version doesnt quite do it for me. C64 version i like best, then this and finally the mighty amstrad. The newish GBA version is really good i have to say.

  • at one point the loading sound becomes quite musical about 1.38 for a few seconds or more

  • I love that loading sound. Brings back memories

  • yeah great vid this... feel like this should be in a museum, was it really that long ago. love the load sequence, nice touch, loved this game, i was 8 when i played this, pixel perfect jumping, v.hard when games were games. 10/10

  • Wow :) nic video

  • I am now 40 yrs old and told my kids tonight about Spectrum 48k.This brings back so back memories, not so much the game (this and Jet Pack) but the actual LOADING SEQUENCE !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • God, the music in this game is horrible, it reminds me of those old Vtech electronic toys you used to see.

  • Are you using a real Spectrum computer, or are you using an emulator? Which model spectrum are you using?

  • Read the video description

  • The jump sound reminds me a lot of the Chuckie Egg music :)

  • Isn't this Jet Set Willy?

  • Doesn't the loading screen give you a clue?

  • this video makes me cry!

    in a good way

  • What;s kinda funny is that as a kid, I HATED the load screen - I used to end up singing it when I wasn't playing (I know...). Now I'm nothing short of ecstatic to hear it go through it again.

    Good times. :)

  • @shelingEB

I have to agree, this load screen that drove me absolutely CRAZY all those years back, hearing it now stirs up some strange feelings! Definitely good times! God, i must be getting old :(

  • 8:35 FAIL!!!! Hahahahaha

  • Let's see your attempt :-)

  • Load ""

  • beautiful

  • this brings back happy memories, the first game i purchased for the spectrum,AMAZING for the time

  • eggbert!!! loved this, 11 when it hit the world. look at my computer now!!

  • watching it load brings back so many memories...the noises and rythms in the loading are memorable - it is engrained in my memory - i must have sat and waited for it to load so many times c1983-86

  • especially the bit 1.35 to 1.49...quite ryhthmic!! (sad, i know!)

  • Not Sad at all mate, i find it quite funky too lol.

Its one of the things i miss about the old micros.

  • Hell, it takes its time to load.

  • Pure magic.

  • guess it cant play Crysis...

  • Well, duh.

  • Spectrum and the HC 90 based computers FTW !

  • Quanti ricordi...

    W lo ZX Spectrum!!!!

    ;-)

  • Brings back some fond memories. 25 years have passed...

  • Holy SHIT! The graphics are nearly as good as Gears of War! LOL God this brings back memories!

  • Maybe I'm sad, but I loaded this into one of my Speccies by using the sound off this YouTube video! Spot on.

  • ha! I did wonder if that was possible - I do hope I don't get done for copyright breaches!

  • I think Bug Byte are well and truly past worrying about things like that ;)

  • think this was the later Software Projects version as I recall the original BugByte one had a different graphic in the screen Eugene's Lair - something to do with a fat guy at Bugbyte that fell out with the programmer??? ah the memories!

  • @mistertourette - yes. you are incredibly sad. unfortunately, i think yr cool, so what does that say about me?

  • @mistertourette i maybe be 2 years behind but thats genius

  • @mistertourette it worked?!

  • @mistertourette Brilliant!

  • @mistertourette wat

  • sounds like something Radiohead do these days

  • watch it without fast forwarding for greater authenticity... ;)

  • That brought me back ages. I remember back then my dad learned me how to cheat this game pausing the loading at a certain moment and "poke"-ing it giving you infinite lives )))) And error message - never thought I'd miss it )). How time flies! Thanks for posting, AWESOME!

  • 48k! Lol, computers fart more than that these days. Jet Set Willy was my favorite, although this was the first in the series I played. The graphics and music were good for its time. Kids nowadays don't understand these games, you had to have been brought up with them to appreciate them.

  • haha this was the first computer game i ever played. remember staring intensly at the screen waiting for the game to load. great video brings back great memories of being wee!!!

  • Oh yes!!! I could listen to that all day!!!

Brilliant memories of a fantastic game, and you can almost get melodies from the loading call!

    Spectrum>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>PS3.

  • That loading sound brings back as many memories as the games. Kids thesedays have no idea what some of us went through to get games working hehe...

  • And this how I got infected by computers....and I am still passionate about computer games :)

    As someone said "Pure nostalgy"

  • Pure nostalgy! :-)

  • What a nostalgy! I miss "Tape loading error" ;-)

  • Tape loading error! God what a bummer that was!

I had a spectrum 128k +2 back in 86 thought it was the pinnacle of technology, because some of the games had speech samples on them!lol!

20 odd years later, its amazing how far computers and tech has come; i wonder what it'll be like in another 20 years?

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!One of my first game !!!!!!!

  • Sometimes I would jump directly to the box to win imidiatly in that 2º. But the sound! I could actually know witch game was being loaded by that loading stripes sound. Very good memories.

  • Oh my god! I did the second level exacly the same! It´s confortable to lissen to the exact sound your game made. Perfect. The first one is not what I did, but it´s close. It was always walking, never stoping to complete the level faster and have more points. So good to remember!

  • man this takes me back to when i was a little kid.. around 4 i was. Ahhh memory's.. i remember my dad loading up pac man for me...

Fast Fwd never worked as i found out

  • I used to have the cheat (unlimited lives) Jet set Willy was the follow up

  • Yup - that loading screen noise still has the ability to go right through me!

  • Omg this 5 second loop is so annoying.

  • yeah moggy, 'r tape loading error', what a treat when it loaded, I swear I used to 'see' some of that machine code in my head while it was loading..anyone remember the Cheetah Syn Drum?

  • I used to love it when a game would load like this one and the sound would become really rhythmic like from 01:25 till 01:48 then it went all wrong again.

  • I'm well happy i found odd job eddie in my loft

  • r tape loading error

  • all that and sometimes it wouldnt even work !

  • Good lord that's owns.

  • Fantastic! My first computer game ever! WOW!

  • Holy moly, the loading sound alone makes this worth watching. Plus, I loved Manic Miner!

  • Just as bad as I remember! I always preferred Jet Set Willy (with that cheat where you stop it loading part way and give yourself 32000 lives!
