  • i remember this hardley, i was only 5.

  • Chist everybody thought the computers would crash at start of the new century. That river of fire along the thames was a failure. Its seems only like yesterday that it happned god time really flies.

  • Dimbleby: "Well it is now 2000 today, and to mark the birth of the new century, the River of Fire on the Thames... this great stream of high-moving fire, going at the speed the earth turns... difficult to distinguish there I must admit from the fireworks... turning in theory at any rate at the very speed of time!" Of course it never happened. Total shambolic failure.

  • @gaypanda Special coverages would be aired every 1000 years so no special coverage for 2020. Only regular coverages.

  • @NoFaceChannel annually, as "1998 Today", "1999 Today", 2002 Today

  • Now 3000 today, and 4000 today and onwards

  • boom i was born lol 2000 is my birthday

  • Streamers at the start are great

    WTF HAPPENED NEXT

  • By 2:44 the begin of the 21st century

  • the world went a bit downhill after this...

  • @pacwel yeah 9/11 and todays recession for start.Who would of predicted that was to happen in the first 11 years of the 21th century?

  • 90s were the best

  • whoever dislikes this can't be from england

  • they certainly don't celebrate new year like that anymore, whatever happened to Newcastle's displays?

  • tence moment

  • i am trying to remember something, there was a celbration where the queen turned on a green lazer onto one of her crown jewels in the thames, does anybody know its name?

  • end of old a new era of new what great singing

  • It sure really amazes me how time has gone by.Its hard to believe that it has been already 10 years since celebrating Y2K.I still remember the only once in a lifetime magical moment were everyone from all walks of life, different religions, race, creed, and background were united and celebrated the coming new mullenium with happiness and unity.

  • @chec2002 thats some good poetry there

  • 3,832 days later and this presentation from BBC One (and the 60 other broadcasters) it still holds significance in my heart.

I wish BBC do a variation of this for the next decade: 2020 Today!

  • @gaypanda 2020 today?

  • @cindy1000000 No 3000 today?

  • Excellent clip - this is a big piece of history here, which I think should always remain on this website. It's just a pity that the television reception isn't too good on the recording. For the benefit of this clip, the new millennium starts at: 2:45!

I recorded the ITV coverage at the time with Trevor McDonald saying "welcome to the new millennium, etc". I deliberately recorded the ITV coverage for the adverts that were on at the time.

  • im just 4 year of ages that time

  • @MrJSmichael lol

  • once in a lifetime experience

  • Britain fucks it up again well done, river of shit!!

  • 13 hours ago was the beginning of the new decade!
