Chist everybody thought the computers would crash at start of the new century. That river of fire along the thames was a failure. Its seems only like yesterday that it happned god time really flies.
Dimbleby: "Well it is now 2000 today, and to mark the birth of the new century, the River of Fire on the Thames... this great stream of high-moving fire, going at the speed the earth turns... difficult to distinguish there I must admit from the fireworks... turning in theory at any rate at the very speed of time!" Of course it never happened. Total shambolic failure.
i am trying to remember something, there was a celbration where the queen turned on a green lazer onto one of her crown jewels in the thames, does anybody know its name?
It sure really amazes me how time has gone by.Its hard to believe that it has been already 10 years since celebrating Y2K.I still remember the only once in a lifetime magical moment were everyone from all walks of life, different religions, race, creed, and background were united and celebrated the coming new mullenium with happiness and unity.
Excellent clip - this is a big piece of history here, which I think should always remain on this website. It's just a pity that the television reception isn't too good on the recording. For the benefit of this clip, the new millennium starts at: 2:45!
I recorded the ITV coverage at the time with Trevor McDonald saying "welcome to the new millennium, etc". I deliberately recorded the ITV coverage for the adverts that were on at the time.
i remember this hardley, i was only 5.

@gaypanda Special coverages would be aired every 1000 years so no special coverage for 2020. Only regular coverages.

3,832 days later and this presentation from BBC One (and the 60 other broadcasters) it still holds significance in my heart.
I wish BBC do a variation of this for the next decade: 2020 Today!
