  • Combat 1982 no match compare to 2010

  • I think it's kinda ironic that something took months to do to some people 30 years ago and now you can easily recreate it by yourself in a free software and run it in realtime :/

  • Technological advances aside, gotta say I prefer the aesthetic of the original. Legacy is just so dark and monochromatic. Almost boring to look at, really. Like a 90-minute iPod commercial.

  • man i hate the green one

    blue is my fravourite colour

  • Anyone know the song at 2:32? I don't remember it

  • both are amazing pieces of film history

  • i like both Tron movies.

I liked how Flynn almost eats it 2:43

  • It's breathtaking to see how far technology has come in a matter of a few decades. If you look at the course of human history we had centuries of very little progress and now we're moving at light speed,

  • wow this is like pistol whipping a blind kid XD

  • nice video

  • i lold at 2:42 and after that xD

  • You forgot to include the disc battle with TRON versus 4 opponents.

That, and it would be cool to show the inside of the tank from the original film (and more of the costumes from the original, too).

Still though, a pretty cool vid.

  • Old suits are soo better. They look more computerish.

  • yeah tron legecy had better cgi but you got to think the first tron was made in 1982, u have to be faire with the time periods. but story wise the original is always better.

  • @theRedmistress storywise legacy is so much better!!

  • like gta 2 vs gta 4

  • 8 MBITS TO 1024 MBITS

  • the new tron maks the old tron look like a pice o crap

  • The old TRON looks very silly against the new....

  • Tron (1982) : Windows XP

Tron Legacy (2010) : Windows Vista

  • @ No it's actually

    Tron (1982): Windows

    Tron (2010): Ubuntu

  • @98ammar Vista sucks... monkey dicks.

  • Daft punk did a ficken amazing job in the music

  • Yeah .. where are the scenes with the green guy from ??!

  • Where the hell was the scene with the green guy on the bike from...? I didn't see that when I watched the real movie o.O

  • Damn, disc wars was boring before.

  • EPIC, 4ever!

  • the original could be made on paint and windows movie maker is whats funny

  • The 2nd really changed what made TRON, TRON. It made me mad.

  • some of the new vids are from the video game tron evolution which is an awsome game

  • what is the last thing called the flying thing

  • @starwarsking2000 never mind they are called light jets

  • Who is that? Who says: "Not anymore."

  • @soccergoalkeeper1 looks like clue, defs not in theatre edition of legacy

  • @cameronhalll

It doesn't look like him when you seem him up close. That's why I'm asking.

  • After almost 30 years, Legacy really moves the bar up with it's special effects. At the time however, the original was groundbreaking in so many ways. Having just watched both within a week of each other, gave me a greater appreciation for the original.

  • Both films are amazing with great special effects. I can't wait for the third one.

  • hilarious XD

  • i cant wait for the nostalga critic to do his review on the old n new tron this was pretty good

  • @LeVonMcLane you forgot tron cars and tron/rinzlers combat (rinzler is actually tron)

  • @legoclaw14 yeah man, you're right, but it's coming soon :)

  • Superb video!

  • where can i watch the tron 1982 film?

  • @castlenibil you can buy it with the new film on DVD or Blu-Ray.

  • el wire is awsome

  • I wonder what tron:2038 will look like!

  • I really like both movies, but I still prefer the original. The second one at least doesn't "copy" the first, though. It's like "Tron" meets "Blade Runner." So each has a distinct style.

  • In part "combat" you are not objective - you forget disc battles from original Tron

  • Everything is soooooo much cooler in 2010 than in 1982 :D

  • @Ytomdia that's always what the new kids think

  • I watched the 2010 version but I didn't watch the old one .. are they exactly the same story ?

  • @md0is0peace no, no Legacy is not a remake, it's how the first one continues.

  • Comment removed

  • Very cool! Thanks to the nerds softwares!

  • 1: 56 MINECRAFT CLOUDS :D

  • no se nota el cambiooo :D JAJAJA

  • Nicely done video

  • The new Tron Legacy make's the old Tron look like shit!...

Wonder why my parents hated tron back in the day :P

  • @MrJanitar probably cause your folks were a couple of assholes? (kidding)

  • that's one of these times when I say "I love 21st century".

  • ...TRON 1982 is still the better movie....

  • @SteveSabbai better story line shit gfx

but as my dad all ways say that would of being the best back then in his day i loved this movie when it came out and i love the cary on!

  • k wtf wheres the end scene from I don't remember seen it in the movie and the yellow costumes too? ..

  • @sroRAGE it's from the teaser. Suits (a zipper near the helmet) and project of the lighcycle (shadows, counter and way it activate) are also different. Look's like teaser was early technology preview

  • @wekmyr yeah I remembered after I posted the commend lol but thx

  • @sroRAGE its a trailer at comic con its not really in the movie its in the special feature on the disc

  • @sroRAGE: It's just a GAME! =))

  • @sroRAGE The plane? That's when Clu is hunting down Kevin and Sam Flynn, along with Quorra. He jumps out of a tower and uses a special baton to make a plane (if I remember right) inside of his floating base and begins following them along with Rinzler and some combatants.

  • @sroRAGE its from the game

  • @sroRAGE clu's costume is yellow u moron

  • @TRANCEMASTER28191 lol easy geek

  • @sroRAGE its from a teaser trailer from San Diego Comicon a few years before Legacy's release. They made it to see if there was enough interest to make another movie

  • @sroRAGE The end scene is from the test video made to promote the film, as stated in the description.

  • it seems that if they have evolved after all xdxddd!!!

  • i seen the original tron a while before the sequel, just from word of mouth. and i appreciate it for what it is. and what it was. and the sequel is eye candy certainly, but not necessarily as good in the story department. any huge tron fans care to explain why the 2 computer worlds in each movie look so different? did they explain in the sequel why it doesnt look the same?

  • @rolledgold77 The first one was made by a bunch of different "users" in the encom company, all the programs went into one computer controlled by the MCP. The one in Tron:Legacy was made by Flynn, and was made to be another world, the first one was just made like any other data-base. And Tron was brought over by Flynn I'm guessing on a disc or something.

  • @Salien1999 excellent answer. havent seen the original in a bit, but thats soundin exactly how i remember it. thank you very kindly.

  • @rolledgold77 Np. I'll PM you a link to see the movie.

  • @Salien1999 That same disc containing Tron was later transferd into the Memory stick that Sam now wears around his neck.

  • @Nanomaru I heard the memory stick was a copy of the whole system.

  • Seriously the first one is pretty badass for it's time!

  • Bored of the old Tron but still looks good at those times but just look at Tron now :)

  • u know what LeVonMclane ur awesome

  • It took me awhile to figure out that Jeff Bridges was CGI as himself young. That was pretty damn good!

  • @LeVonMclane no thank u

  • I like this video a lot

  • @dcrosner15 Thanks man )

  • @LeVonMcLane :) U know that TRON (1982) are very mmmm.... bored xD and TRON (2010) :OOO I LOVE!!! xD

  • great your clip very good hey congratulations man

  • @JakeJacob99 Thanks a lot, appreciate it )

  • Man technology has gotten fuckin good. Good thing I grew up in this generation, but a classic is a classic.

  • Damn, i'm glad to live in a time where special effects in movies look awesome!

  • @SuperPSTutorials

Haha the original suffers in this comparison, but believe me... if you saw the original at a cinema in 70mm you'd be blown away!

It looks far less "realistic", sure, but that was it's appeal... otherworldly and surreal.

The sequel looks FANTASTIC, but instead of making a plastic Jeff Bridges, they should have spent the money on hiring a good writer to make the plot/dialog vaguely interesting. Oh well. :-(

  • original tron is better imo.

  • NEW TRON KICKS ASS

  • Who else was disappointed with the digitizing scene in Legacy? It was nothing compared to the originals. Then again the 1982 digitizing laser ran on dial-up, so I guess it's only natural that the process was much quicker 20 years later.

  • They should have recreated the gritty style of the original. Legacy just seemed like a cheap "let's be like the Matrix" knock-off. Just use the same technique used in the first one but PERFECT it. The X and Y grid of the light-cycles, etc. Legacy is ok, but it's &^%$in' TRON, it shouldn't be just "ok".

  • recognizers are supposed to be computer animated sprites, not actual solid machines, and although the inner controls resemble the video-game controls, the outside representation is supposed to be all computer animated. The new recognizers look too solid and machine like. But I haven't seen the new film yet.

  • Just so you know, the environment in the 1982 Tron WAS NOT called Tron City. It was just known as, "The System", because it was inside the ENCOM 511 computer. The environment in TRON: LEGACY is comprised of three parts: 1)Tron City - where the game grid was as well as the End of Line Club; 2)The Grid (basically the whole environment collectively) and 3)The Outlands - where Flynn's Safe House was, out in the rocky parts of the grid, as well as where the Portal was.

  • TIme Changes!

  • TRON ROCKS! ^_^

  • It makes sense that The world in Tron Legacy would be more advanced... Because both worlds reflect there respective time... in 1982, there computers wasn't as advance or dignified... But in the 2010s, computers have become more streamlined and advanced...

  • It kind of sucked how in TRON: Legacy they basically said that everything in the first TRON was not the real grid, but the new one was. I got the impression better that I was in a computer in the first film than the new film, which just felt like a standard apocalyptic world seen countless times.

  • @kamdan2011 Well, the computer world in TRON: Legacy is on a different server - a server that Flynn built secretly; the world in TRON (1982) was an ENCOM server, called the ENCOM 511. That's why there's a different look between the two films, regardless of the the change in technological advancements, as well as how Clu 2 wanted the world to look, and Kevin Flynn's design.

  • How nice of Flynn to replace the spandex for leather jackets.

  • What made me think of that was when they displayed the movie poster in the film.

  • nice...

but i still love the original Tron (1982)

the motorcycles are ripped from Batman ;-)

  • @bovenzee No, that is not so. The light cycle designs for TRON: LEGACY are actually what was supposed to be intended for the 1982 TRON film, but due to technological limitations at the time, they were not able to make the lightcycles with open cockpits. Therefore, TRON, FLYNN, AND RAM as well as the other light cyclists in TRON (1982) were covered up by the cockpits. That Batman Film you're talking about came out YEARS LATER - therefore, Batman took some design cues from Syd Mead.

  • @bovenzee im sorry buddy but you need to get your facts straight. you dont know anything about TRON. thinking they got them from batman, what a fool. they were actually designed by Syd Mead!!!!! from his original concept drawings from 1981 before the movie came out in 1982 jacksass. geeze learn something or read!

  • This shows how much films have envolved....

  • wher eis that green bike from in the "new " clips? didn't see it in the movie...

  • @treasd5 The green bike in the clips was from the ComiCon teaser for the re-boot from 12 months ago to test the market and see if a new TRON would be worth while .. Its the Mach 4 Unit (Mach 5's appear in the movie) if you have seen the movie the teaser is set in the "late 80's" after Flynn, Tron and Clu have created the new system and Clu has gone rogue

  • wher eis that green bike from in the "new " clips? didn't see it in the movies...

  • Both are epic

  • WOW the 1982 version is epic..

  • One thing I don't like in Tron Legacy is that it is very "dark"... They nearly didn't use any lights in it. Only some intensively white floors etc.

Wish it had some of the beauty of the sunlight in it. It wouldn't be (maybe) very reallistic but at least very impressive, beautiful and relaxing.

My eyes got very tired when I saw the movie in 3D!

  • @TitanaMaster LOL just as I was reading your comment I was watching the recogniser parts and I was thinking; "Wow, the old one is very dark-- It just has a black sky/roof thing!"

    LOL! Ironic!

  • @TitanaMaster The digital world inside the ENCOM 511 (the world inside the computer in the 1982 TRON film) was also pretty dark, except for a few places. I think the director and designer of THE GRID deliberately designed it to be darker (literally and figuratively) to drive home the fact that THE GRID is a lot more dangerous and perilous than the Game Grid in the ENCOM 511 could ever be. Also, CLU 2 may have had something to do with it, as well.

  • fortunately i live in 2011 now and i'm only 18... A golden rule is that you can never know what's gonna happen in 10, 20 or more 30 years! !

Imagine what the creators of Tron 1982 would say if they saw the Tron Legacy... "Are you aliens or guys from the future?"

Also imagine what's the technological developpement since 1982... HUGE!!!

The difference between 1982 and 2010-2011 is only 28-29 years...

I hope we will see many things in our lives in the future...

  • the old one is horrible

  • @raf90lellokawasaki That's your opinion, but here's a fact: there would be NO PIXAR, DIGITAL DOMAIN, RHYTHM AND HUES (digital/visual fx houses) and the advancements made in CGI without the original TRON film in 1982. I'm not kidding - read interviews with John Lasseter as well as the SEVERAL graphic artists today who either: worked on the 1982 TRON film or were directly inspired by it. You also have to consider when the original was made (1981). Regardless, it was ahead of its time, as is Legacy

  • Old TRON all the way.

  • were some of these scenes from tron evolution?

  • tron legacy 2010 is a decent sequel ....i like the story and how it is made!

  • All I can say is that when I was 16 years old and saw the original Tron, I was blown away! Saw the new Tron Legacy in 3D at the theatre...the wife actually fell asleep during the film...which isn't uncommon for her. As for me, I wish Disney had kept with the Forbidden Planet, first Tron film look, instead of the Jerry Bruckheimer look!!!

  • Yes, he added the comic con trailer, which might have looked good in the movie. But that was only a Demo, for the Disney Exec' s.

  • GOOD STUFF!!

  • I like how the old cycles really only went in a few directions. i dont like how the new trons are just regular motor cycles...

  • incredible changement in 29 years ago later

  • omg the old tron looks shit

  • @MSHYPERPANTS You gotta remember, the original was made in '82. That was awesome shit back then, lol. Today, old Tron CGI is what movie makers use today as pre-production models. It's kind of cool to see the "high tech" stuff then as models for todays high tech stuff. Really shows how CGI has evolved.

  • Visually Legacy is a much prettier movie, but I still like the original better. As far as sequels go, though, it's a damn awesome sequel.

  • u picked back scenes to compare with.

  • LOL the old Tron looks like a cartoon world and they stuck real people in it... Like Roger Rabbit haha... but worse O_o

  • las dos estan buenas x que el tron anterior recordemos que ps no tenian esta tecnologia a su alcanse pero a las dos le doy 10

  • This is awesome, I used to watch Tron as a kid over and over and my family and friends thought I was silly. Then the new one came out and they're all like TRON TRON! bah! Thanks for showing the diff! Very cool

  • Its funny because the footage of Tron Legacy in this video isnt even in Tron legacy Meh...

  • No comparison..., Tron 1982 clearly takes the win.

  • Tron Guy anyone?

  • the old version looks stupid when its compared

  • @dareelgamer f*ck you the old tron was bada**

  • 1:59 Minecraft with triangle shaped floors! :D

  • i just like the way the lightcycle change!!!! in the new tron legacy... but the all time tron was funny!!ahahaha

  • so is tron legacy a sequal to the 1982 version or is it just like a remake?

  • @TheBIGJJR It's a sequel, a remake would have made no sense ^^

  • @LeVonMcLane its a remake nimrod

  • @ferovader419 No, it's a SEQUEL. This has been stated SEVERAL TIMES and it's pretty obvious it's a sequel because: 1)The computer world in Legacy IS A DIFFERENT SERVER from the ENCOM 511 in the first film; 2)Kevin Flynn's son, 27-year old SAM, is the main character; 3)TRON has been repurposed to assisted CLU 2 and Flynn in maintaining THE GRID; 4)CLU 2 is the main villain in this one; NO MCP, and several other things. You may want to check your facts before trying to call out someone else.

  • @LeVonMcLane Then I guess any of the thousands of movies remakes have no sense =P

  • @yueh25 Yes, there are alot of remakes, and they usually say remake, but for the last time, TRON: LEGACY is a SEQUEL.

  • @TheBIGJJR its a sequel. but tron is hardly in it.

  • @petrosapien Yes, I wish there was more of TRON in it, but after finding out what happens in it, I understand why. Personally, I would have loved to see MORE TRON, as well as Dr. Lora Baines/Yori, who is now Alan Bradley's Wife. There would have been NO SHIVA LASER/transport between the real and computer worlds without the research that she chiefly pioneered in the first Tron film, along with Dr. Walter Gibbs. Alan introduced her as his Wife in the ARG Flynn Lives footage.

  • @TheBIGJJR

It's practically a remake scene for scene... transport to the grid - a world run by a dictator, be forced to play the SAME TWO GAMES: ring game & lightcycles, escape on a solar sailor, heal the girl with user power, reach the exit beam and escape.

IMO the sequel didn't make sense at all... in the original, the games were what happened on the other side of the screen when you play a video game, and Flynn was good at 'em cos he was a video game champ. In the sequel...??

  • @LeVonMcLane

    Nice comparison, btw! :-)

  • Am I the only one who thought this was a game? :p

  • Video quality sucks ass big time....

  • The 1982 tron looks like a south park episode were I think they make a parody of tron. Dunno?

  • @abey3008 it was a parody of facebook and how hard it is to manually deactivate your account on it

  • What was the "changes" part (3:14) about? I mean I just came from the theater and I didn't see that scene... is it after the credits?

  • @sarkasmi83 you're right, that scene wasn't in the movie. it was a demo, about a year ago, at comic con. it was a long teaser trailer.

  • @LeVonMcLane aaaah ok, that explains it. For a while I thought it's after the credits but it wouldn't have made any sense :) Thanks for the info.

  • @sarkasmi83 always a pleasure sir :)

  • Although Tron Legacy is a good sequal who works perfectly fine on its own, I must say that the original Tron back in 1982 was GROUNDBREAKING. It was several years ahead of time with its use of CGI. Back then nobody had ever thought about the idea of making a whole world computer animated, and have a person be transported inside a computer world.

Tron Legacy looks cool but it's nothing we haven't seen before in other movies which use a lot of CGI.

10 year later, in 1992, Tron still looked cool.

  • @McLarenMercedes

An example of my point. Compare the original King Kong from 1933 to the 2005 remake (there was a 1976 remake too). Naturally the 2005 remake looks way better and realistic but it can never have the same impact the 1933 original had. The original King Kong was a huge leap in special effects, and back then people had never seen anything like it. The 2005 remake wasn't groundbraking special effects wise in any way.

Same goes for Star Wars in 1977 and Tron in 1982. Milestones.

  • @McLarenMercedes BOTH films are groundbreaking - the irony with Legacy is that just as a laser was used to transport Kevin Flynn inside the ENCOM 511 28 years earlier, a REAL laser was used to scan Jeff Bridges' and Bruce Boxleitner's faces to make: a)Younger 1989 Kevin Flynn; b)CLU 2.0, and c)TRON (as he was repurposed for the Grid), and d)Younger 1989 Alan Bradley. The only other film at the time that used similar facial scanning was Benjamin Button, but Tron: Legacy went further with that.

  • I smell a Kinect game featuring the disc fights coming soon. The 1982 version pretty much nailed the actions. xD

  • THE BEST... CYBER WINE...CONGRATULETIONS...*****

  • lmao old tron's fight looked like a game, the new one looks like an actual fight. xD

  • @that1guy9207 Correction. Back in 1982, the fight looked real, and now it looks like a computer game of the modern day. In 28 years, the tron movie will look like a game. :)

  • @that1guy9207 the old tron was purely supposed to look like a game, thats why.
