What a sweetie. My grey is all grown up, but he still gets "birdie mush" for dinner occasionally... and still needs to have his beak cleaned after. Thanks for reminding me how cute they are when they are babies!
omg mine JUST stopped making that noise at 11wks?? i think he's trying to mimic the kiss sound, im always blowing kisses at him and kissing the top of his head :]
hello, at this age , are u still giving him formula ? mine he reject the formula he is know 14 weeks ,and he eat his pellet but not with water just dry he dosnt like it with water and eat seed and little bit of vegtable and fruit
this was just as brian was weaning, but yes 14 weeks is a good age for your bird to be off the formula. if he is happily eating pellets and fresh fruit and vegetables than thats great, you did a good job! be careful with the seeds though, it is junk food for greys, offer little bits of seeds, perhaps as a treat or something. but they are high in fat and of little nutritional value.
this was kaytee weaning pellets.. i think. they're little yellowy coloured hoops that you can soak to different softnesses, he was well on his way to weaning at this point so they were perfect for him. but any younger than this you need a more specific formula, you would have to ask someone more qualified than me about that =)
I feel so lucky when I hear stories about bathing parrots. I quite often have my parrot in the shower with me. Sometimes its a struggle to get him in when you know he needs its. Then is another struggle getting him out as you can see how much he's enjoying it. The rest of the time he sits upon the top of the shower door and sings.
i feel so jelous when hear about parrots that enjoy bathing and showering. the comment below from lilhungarianjenny upset me because she has no idea about my parrot. each one is different and my little guy just despises getting wet. he gets misted regularly and he's in lovely condition, he's just fine without the showers or baths, but it would be nice if would take them
ufortunately that is one thing i can't do, despite my best efforts brian is still pertified of water and ater nearly 2 years of trying i can't take any more bites or scratches so i've given up, he wins! and before anyone offers advice i really have tried EVERYTHING lol, he must be water-phobic. brian just gets misted a couple of times a week, he hates this too but as least i dont have to touch him to do it so he takes his displeasure out on the spray nozzle instead lol
No you have NOT tried everything..that's obvious ain't it? Turn the shower on and put him in the bathtub ALONE. After a few minutes he'll welcome your hand to pick him out of the tub and rescue him but he must be alone and and you AWAY for a few minutes. You also have to be consistent not just 2 or 3 times doing it. These birds are alot smarter than you think so they will learn and adapt, he'll know bathing is good soon.
firstly, i'm going to ignore the face that you seem to be being very partonising. i cannot leave him alone in the bathroom he is FULLY FLIGHTED he will not wait for me to get him, he will just fly. he is PETRIFIED of water and i know from experience he just takes off and the bathroom is far to dangerous a place for him to fly. i tried for 10 months to get him used to baths and showers or big bowls of water and it did nothing but stress him out. misting works fine for us.
in future find out details before you offer advice, if you had bothered to ask me what i had and hadn't tried you would know i have tried EVERYTHING.. as i said. he isn't a baby anymore, he's amost 2 years old and i am aware exactly how smart these birds are. he is too smart to be forced to do something he hates.
no, african greys need a lot of sleep and if you make a routine bed time for them, ie. saying "it's bed time, night night" etc turning out the lights, covering the cage if you want make sure it's dark and quiet for them, they will sleep through the night until it gets light and then wait quietly and patiently for you to come in and make a big fuss that it's time to get up =)
yep it was cute at first, but it didn't stop at while he was being fed, it was 30 mins before feeding time and almost an hour after.. 3 times a day, everyday, for 4 weeks LOL. he's still just as cute now but has much more interesting noises =D
This lil' fella is great! Really got into my heart. I can't wait to get mine... I'm looking to buy as young as possible so i can feed him and take care of him from early age.
Aw cute :-) My CAG is about 4 months now and makes that noise when he's eating his seeds. But only when I look at him... I was wondering if he'll keep doing it :-P
Brian!!!! What a fab name lol! My 2 Greys are hand reared 2...Casper n Charlie were 1 in November so ours must all be a similar age lol. We were visiting them from 6 weeks. we got Casper at 12 weeks as we were only wanting one...he said his 1st word at 14 weeks. we ended up gettin his brother Charlie when they were about 10 months old when the lady tht had bought him asked us if we wanted him. We also have a rescued 11 yr old Amazon now:P Love our parrots. COme n see my videos. Brian is gorjus!
just brian. i know people say you shouldnt get a grey as your first bird, but i did my research and i wouldnt want it any other way. i will get more birds when i move to a bigger house LOL
thankyou very much, yes he was adorable.. he still is though hes a bit more of a handful now! a wonderful addition to my life though.
congrats on your decision, remember to do as much research as you can, you can never be too prepared with these birds. i'm sure you'll make great "parronts" (parents to parrot) :)
thankyou, and yes it's deffinately a keeper! he's just over a year now and he's deffinately a character. i need to get some better videos of his chatting, but he's in love with the camera!! i wish he'd sit nicely like Kanicki
