In fact, the core of Vista is a stripped down version of Apple's OS9 operating system, and Vista is the first OS from Microsoft to incorporate Unix.

Also fact: Microsoft's market share is decreasing rapidly, and Apple is increasing at the same pace. One could even argue that Apple is at the forefront of innovation.

not to mention how advanced the sound technology is, it surpasses sound of most films shown at the cinema, Blu-ray features 24 bit PCM (uncompressed) 7.1ch surround sound. most theatres use 16 bit sound at 5.1ch matrixed into the number of speakers in the auditorium.

.. I don't know about you, but I don't buy lasers based on advertising. Seeing a bunch of fucking Blu-Ray lasers used in an advertisement is NOT going to get me to buy a Blu-Ray burner, player, or PS3. Good CONTENT might get me to buy a PS3, but there's not a heck of a lot of that yet, and (hopefully), bu the time there IS, the price will have dropped. I'm not paying that kind of money when I only like one or two games for it.

Well, if you're simply counting the number of pixels, a standard PAL DVD has 720 * 576 = 414,720, whereas Blu-ray has 1920 * 1080 = 2,073,600. So that's actually a 500% image quality improvement.

Of course, if your DVDs are NTSC-format, you get 720 * 480 = 345,600 pixels. So for Americans (and others using NTSC), upgrading to Blu-ray actually provides a 600% improvement over what they had before.

Assuming we're just talking about the number of pixels, of course. :)

Okay...on an HD DVD disk....it can hold up to 30 Gigabytes of data. A blu-ray disk can hold up to 50 Gigabytes.

Both HD DVD and Blu-ray are High Def disks and have High def movies on them, but, right now; they're just two formats in a "war". Just like VHS and the betamax were in the 70's and 80's

Pretty much. I believe (but could be wrong) that Blu-Ray supports more video codecs (although both support the superior H.264, so that shouldn't be an issue in the long-run). The only other real difference is the software used on the decoders; HD-DVDs was made specially by Microsoft, while Blu-Rays is based on Java. Ultimately there's no big difference beyond HD-DVD players tend to be cheaper, but Blu-Ray has the biggest scope looking forward, if it gets that far.
