kimora75, you need something better to do with your time. Until you have spent anytime in a classroom, you have absolutely no business criticizing a teacher. These people spend all of their energy trying to teach a room full of kids that don't give a crap about bettering their life. It has nothing to do with race, black, white, red, purple, kids are kids, kids have parents and ultimately it is the parent's responsibility to teach their kids respect, respect that is missing from this school.
To knobylob, do not ever let a teacher tear you down like this, make sure you let an adult know if you ever experience such disgrace until justice is met!
These are legitimate concerns, but lack a certain perspective. This film was made by a black student and certainly wasn't intended to misrepresent Harper Woods. I can say with assurance as someone who worked closely with him that the race issue never occurred to this student when he was making the film.
I applaud the efforts of our students and teachers here in this video but I am sadden at what I see and witness in our high school. Out of the students showcased here the only black student's portrayal was very negative, why is that??? Parents, students, teachers and administrators all must be held accountable. Where are our black children that are doing just as good as their classmates??? Or are there not any, why??? I love our teachers and community but somethings wrong, I'm hurt.
u r correct. Im parent pushing to break that cycle. We hv a prog that me n some parents hv kicked off call "Parents on Campus", I have pushed the fact of the need of integrating our all blk schl. We need more mentors to break the cycle. If u r ever in town on a break please contact me Kimora Haslam We can use pos black role models. Tue I am helpn some childrn on the ACT in which I see may b difficlt 4 them and no they are prob going to need tutoring, mayb this is smthn u can help us with.
I see the same racial boundary that plagued the school when I went there. I wish that HW would focus more on supporting minority students and pushing them to go to schools like the U of M instead of allowing them to settle for schools like Wayne state. My opinion is not a complete reflection on the staff at HW because most of the teachers I had changed my life for the better. I could go on but I will stop there and continue to work hard for my University of Michigan degree...Nina Idemudia
@nidemudia im sure the intent wasnt to show AA students in a bad light, i will say it was definitely jus a wrong choce to depict on the video but what can u do, but "settling" is a strong word, there are many students who cant go to school cuz they cant afford it, or they cant afford to leave their home period, scholarships can only do so much and a lot of academc scholarships are not full-ride, my grant will only pay for my research and tution it wnt provide my books or transportation......
@nidemudia so we should be applauding students who are seeking a higher education period, and not belittle them because they dont go to Yale or Georgetown, btw I go to WSU and i plan to attend University of Chicago next fall, is my degree, my fancy piece of paper that took me four years to get, less of worth than your own? Think.
As a 2008 HW alum I am very disappointed in this video. Once again Harper Woods neglects to highlight any African American students who are a success in academics and not just sports. When I was a student at HW I was one of the few African American who where shown in a positive light and I had to work very hard in order to do that. As a student at the University of Michigan (one of the few people from HW to attend this school) ...continued
As a HW alum of 2003, I'm very proud to seen how far the school has come in the past few years. It's also nice to see some of my favorite teachers are still there. Including my class sponsor Ms. Linnhart. I still remember the day I flipped the channel to 4 and watched as she won Jeopardy. I've never been so proud to have know someone. Let alone had be instructed by them. Keep up the good work. Chris Hale
