I agree. It's one of the most beautiful tunes you can play on guitar. There aren't any tabs that I know of. I bought the sheet music and then figured out a way to play the chords so that the melody is always on the highest string. I know it's easier said than done -- but that's how it ended up on YouTube.

Well played patentmedicine. This tune was succesfully used as a melodious commentary on a the american civil war in a rewarded TV broadcasting from back in the 80´es. I still remember this mood of sadness that especially Ashokan Farewell put me into. A musical state of mind that is exellenly used to reenforce the understanding of people in a historical view

I arranged it fromthe sheet music, so it probably is the "original" arrangement. It's very touching. I still get teary when I play it.
