  • @gmphasst It's not really a short coming though. The SS was a VERY good car when it came out. I owned a 2004 p71 and the 4.6L v8 is not half as good as the LT1 is. The LT! would be a hard engine to compete with.

  • typical chevy, tries to leave early and still gets run down. if the impalas EVER outperformed the crown vics, which they didn't, they probably would've kept making them, which they didn't. i read the tests from like 94 or 95, the crown vic out-accelerated, outbraked, and outhandled the SS while getting better fuel economy and having a better repair rating. neverming the ugliness factor...

  • @knucklehead0202 Where in the world do you get your info from? No stock Vic ever outperformed an Impala SS, or 9C1 Caprice. Ask any cop who was around to to drive the 9C1, they'll tell you the Vic is lame by comparison. Crown Vic was second choice. Only reason GM stopped making the B-body, was because they wanted to build more trucks and SUV's. And now, Ford is about to do the same retarded thing GM did in '96, which is stop building they're best car. Just when the Vic was better than ever.

  • @LateNightCable info from Car&Driver, Road&Track, AND many officers who drove them, told the tale. i guess if you had a modified SS and a stock, single-exhaust grandpa crown vic, you MIGHT beat it, but that's a stretch. having driven both, i'll take the Ford any damn day of the week. look what's still on the road. crown vics of the last 15-20 yrs everywhere, and i see a random impala or caprice now and then. they didn't sell nears as many, and not many still run. 'nuff said.

  • @knucklehead0202 It takes a modified SS to beat a standard Vic? That's utter nonsense. The 9C1 LT1 Caprice in it's time - a 140+ mph car, outpaced the P71 Vic all day. Even with 3.27 gears the Vic was limited to 129 mph due to harmonic vibration in the driveline, and the 4.6 was never a powerhouse. And of course you see more Vics than Caprice because they're still being built. But to be honest, I'm just not seeing 15-20 year old Vics around either. You're a Ford guy, but don't make stuff up.

  • @LateNightCable stock yes their drive shaft cant handle 129+ but mauraders and p71 has lighter aLUMINUM DRIVE SHAFTs for speed over 140+ yes that 4.6 will beat that bulky 5.7 all day p71 specs 4.6 with dual overheadcams oil and trans cooler made to run 2 least 18hrs a day without being cut off and where im from bham al pehlam police dept went from ford to chevy and back 2 ford reason 07 imp they couldnt even get 40,000 miles out em so they went back to ford

  • @ajfnine I like the CVPI a lot, but it or the Marauder were not built to handle sustained high speeds over 130. They have durability issues concerning the driveline. The only reason cops drive so many Fords today is because they had no other options after Chevy stopped making the rock solid B-body 9C1 - which also had oil and trans coolers. The CV's 4.6 is a fine engine, esp for a 4.6. But it doesn't top the old 5.7 LT-1 for anything. Alas, they no longer make any of these cars, and that's sad.

  • I might as well correct people on here anyway... first off LT1 are faster off line due to Torque my lt1 waz alwayz good on digs.. Second it ain't just the two carz are slow or not its because you gotta know how to drive them too...Next 4.6 cobra they are good for roll runs and sometimes dig too.. But Impala always gonna out perform marauder.. so it aint about the power, its all about the Driver it self too.. for my experience..     Marauder has 3.55 gears with a 4.6 dohc that makes just over 300hp. Impala has a just shy of 300hp lt1. I say the marauder will win, top end or low end. More power, less weight, turn more rpm. So much for "chevy is a top end motor" that 4.6 will rap over 7,000rpm stock. Get some.

    A 3.23? Thats not even a ford rear end gear ratio. Stop guessing numbers and do some homework.

  • @FoxBodyMike1 LT1 isn't 'just shy' of 300 hp (if the factory engine). It's only 260 hp. My neighbor had a Marauder when they came out...raced my 1994 Caprice (factory) with the 5.7. Was almost even, but he always chipped away.

Dog impala's have 3.08 gear ratio marauder's have 3.23 or something higher which means good off the light 3.08 are highway gears and the chevy's are top in cars unless you modified them I'm in the process of putting a 6 speed in my imp with 4.10 when shit on one the ford lol!   • im gonna call bulshit because the marauder had diff engine than ur police interceptor....well not really a diff engine as much as a diff spec 4.6. the maruader i beleive had 3.55s....the ss has 3.08s... not too mention the trans is not s faster shifting trans as much as its a beefed up one so im gonna need 2 see some proof of u beating 1 b4 its beleivable

  • @bergaflickal actualy you would be surprised how SOME crown vic are faster than marauder on a 1-4 mile track.Marauder will run low 15's to high 14's stock for a 300hp car there is nothing to brag abouth the marauder is desperatly lacking of low end torque off the line but once you hit 4000 rpms the doch really makes his job..enought to catch up an ss before the end of the track ?the answer is no

    If you really want to bring facts bring both cars on a real track under controled parameter

Are you serious let me tell ya a rear end and intake do take up for displacement (engine size) 4.6 is a like a 284 or 298 something like that, 5.7 is 350 you do the math them 350 are top in motor's you may look good off the light but after 80 and above bye bye oh I own a 94 imp and I bury Vic and mercury's and I'm stock for now unless you got the cobra motor with a supercharger to make up for what your engine don't have then it's a rap! Slim.

  • @Chevyman164 Stop lying you don't know what you're talking about. A LT1 is faster off the line than the marauder but from a rolling start a marauder would leave a ss in the dust. The SS is made for coming off the line. The marauder doesn't open up until it hits about 35-45mph.

  • @Chevyman164 crown vics are fucking slow .. the 4.6 marauder is a cobra motor, the 4.6 crown vic is not. its a 2v truck motor basically ... the 281 in a marauder is a cobra motor without a super charger, they put out more power then an impala ss and there within like 50 pounds of eachother .. however the 350 is a much easier motor to make fast ... either car really cant go wrong but dont go comparing no crown vics to impala ss's ...

  • @Chevyman164 hey man not trying to start anything but 350 heads are shit if you dont throw money at it so the 350 with displacement alone means nothing when you throw a big cam gear drive and a bigger carb/bigger injectors and intake combos(and i have built both 2 and 4 bolt mains) not to mention the seals after about 33000 miles leaked oil. Point is every engine has potential to beat the others NONE of them are the "TOP". Others wouldn't sell and trust me i've seen built 4.6s fly by 350s bro
