  • Is there something odd about the sound in this video? I'm not sure if it's my speakers or if you added an odd sound effect... or is it just a simulation of the weird mental effects of a drug?

  • @kxradio The video is 3 years old... The camera I had back then was.... er.... well... a bit "challenged" in the sound department XD

  • @rozeboosje Ah! Thanks for the info. I thought it was a creative sound effect to simulate something going on in the brain... kind of scared me because I didn't know what to expect.

  • alright thanks dude!!

  • hey i'm adderall xr 30mg and i now on 10mg of lexapro. but adderall makes me lose weight and i just got on lexapro 10mg. did u gain weight from lexapro? i saw the side effects thing and it said weight gain. i honestly don't want to gain weight.

  • @benz0948 I didn't, but I've heard some people do. If your doctor recommends it you can always give it a try. If you start noticing weight gain, just ask him or her to look for alternatives.

  • why do all your videos have such low ratings? lol

  • @saranghaeyo2326 Votebots [shrug]

  • that is the most intriguing accent.

  • Originally southern Dutch (Limburgs), but I've lived in the UK, spent a few months in the states, and I've been in Ireland since 1995, so no doubt it's quite a muddle at this stage :-)

  • Gee, i wish my doctor would have notified me of these side effects, it would have helped.

  • I'm 18 and I just started on Lex 2 days ago for general anxiety disorder. In addition to Adderall.

Any advice or things I should know about the Lexapro? I've read the side effects and seems like they're ok. No nausea or anything but I am drowsy. The one I'm concerned about are the sexual side effects of the drug.

  • None of the side effects last long term. Things do eventually get back to normal.

  • Thank you!

  • The first day I was on lexapro and adderall, i had such a bad anxiety attack that i had to go to the emergency room. I will never combine the two again!

  • rozeboosje: I can hear the voices in YOUR head dude!

  • LOL

  • I was on citalopram for 8 weeks and changed to lexapro (escitalopram) 3 days ago, hope this works better.

  • Best of luck. If it doesn't, don't give up.

  • Two of my family members died recently. I got so bad that doctor prescribed 5mg Lexapro a day. I'm on day 6 now. I feel so much worse!

Keep waking up in sweat, have huge anxiety, any negative thought keeps drilling in my head for hours and I can't shake it.

Did you or anyone had something like that too in the early days of Lexapro? Thanks for any info.

  • Yes. I personally did not, as I was prescribed this drug for depression, and any such effects to me were more like drinking too much coffee, and I could easily counteract them by giving up coffee for a while. But if you are anxious already then the initial effect will be to increase that anxiety. Ask your doctor for a sleeping tablet to get you over that initial period if you can't handle it.

It is, however, temporary and it will pass, and then the benefits should slowly become apparent.

  • I was prescribed Lexapro for the first time two weeks ago for depression, anxiety and aggressiveness and told to return in two weeks. I was at the doctors on Friday and she upped me from 5mg to 10mg and gave me a sleeping tablet prescription as well. I have been taking one everyday but they don't seem to be doing much for me. What should I be looking out for? Thanks for putting your video's up man, I find them really helpful and I hope you are doing well. Mental health in Ireland is still taboo:(

  • Lexapro's effects are very subtle and sort of sneak up on you. I just noticed one day that when I realised something needed doing I just got up and did it rather than look up to it like yet another mountain to climb. Hard to explain. But stick with it, it could be another two weeks, and you won't notice a drastic change.

I'm no longer taking it now, but I am glad I did. It helped me sort out the problem I had.

  • You seem like a nice dude, i hope everything works out for you.

  • Yeah - this video is fairly old now. I took it for over 6 months but I am now off the meds. It worked, but coming down wasn't easy.

  • im on lexapro 2. im sick of prescriptions

  • I'm at the end of this treatment now. Whilst I felt it has really helped, I hope I'll never need it again.

  • I had a bad reaction when coming off of it. Good Luck. While on it I also had sexual side effects and ears ringing..dizziness and nausea was unbearable when going through withdrawl and my immune system was weakend. I wish you the best of luck. Its getting better now,but I don't have an appetite. I do not recommend this medication.

  • I am coming off it right now. I'm currently down to, believe it or not, 1/4 of a 5mg tablet about once every five days. The dizziness keeps returning, but a tiny bit less all the time.

Withdrawal from these tablets is indeed hard. But when I was being treated they really did help. I'll be making a final video about this soon.

  • They tried to give that to me for my PTSD and it made my ears ring and gave me dysfunction sexually.

Nothing is as good as the leaf for me, and an occasional alprazalam.

    Thats just me.

    Everyones different in that respect.

    I hope you're well:)

  • Yeah. I'm at the tail end of it now. Addressed the cause of the problem and got a new job. Am slowly diminishing dosage and will be discontinuing altogether shortly :-)

  • Stick to the prescription. The side effects get less and less over time. Enjoy it while it lasts ;-)

  • I took a Lexapro for about 6 months but found that I was more sensitive to caffeine and alcohol. I didn't have the queeziness but I did discontinue the drug because I found when I engagued in sexual activity that I could not orgasm both with a partner and if I was just masturbating. That was basically why I went off the drug because of the sexual side effects.

  • And they didn't diminish after a while?

  • You're nuts

  • yep, mad as a hatter.

  • Hi all, i'm 37 had quite a few knocks in life and get panic attacks i.e flying, claustraphobia and panic 'incase' i panic. been on this drug for 5 days, think the panic everyone might experience is from the panic of taking this drug. the chemistry behind it is not so bad, it basically evens out the re-uptake of seratonin. if you suffer from a headache, you take paracetomol etc, hayfever anti-histimanes... all of them alter our body chemistry in some way.

  • Well, I'm on it 5 months now and I think it was a great help. It gave me the get up and go to start dealing with the underlying issues, and I started a new job today :-)

  • did lexapro help your panic attacks?

  • I was taking it for depression, not for panic attacks, but yes, it did help.

  • it is 5 months now since i started taking lexapro. panic attacks are gone, just back from turkey and the flight was no problem. I don't be thinking silly negative thoughts anymore, everything is great. Anyone who knocks this drug has experienced side effects which happen to degrees in most medicine, my sisters husband is a doctor who has pescribed this drug to 100's of his patients with no ill effects to date. lifes a gamble my friends.

  • It's good to see that the side effects have gone away in you. I've been taking lexapro for about 4 days now, and I'm having panic attacks, fainting spells, stomach issues. . . I'm doing my best to ride it out, and it's very uplifting to see someone else doing so well on it. Thanks for all of your videos.

  • Cheers. What are you taking it for, anxiety, depression, or both? I think that may make a difference. I took it because of depression so the hightened anxiety at the start didn't bother me.

  • but sometimes I can't imagine that prospect of getting beyond this actually happening. It's like I'm stuck in time and I only know that I felt different before but can't remember what it actually felt like. So I can't imagine what feeling better will be like and so can't imagine it happening even though I want it too. Does that make sense? Lol, hope so!

  • Yup. It makes a lot of sense. That is exactly what it's like to be depressed. You haven't got the energy to give yourself that kick in the arse to get up and go. And there is nothing you can do about it. Or at least, that is how it feels. That is why I felt the Lexapro was so good. It doesn't solve the problem itself, but it gets you over that hump. It'll give you that little boost you need to start working out the problem. It will give you the ability to work it out for yourself.

  • Exactly and I didn't realise it (the new circumstances) was affecting me so badly until it was too late. I'd taken such a knock and I couldn't come back from it. I did have friends I saw everyday in college and one of them a good friend but I've now left til next year so they'll be a year ahead of me when I go back. Oh well. I don't know if I'll even definitly be ready to go back in September. Thanks for your words, I'm more hopeful now than a few months ago that I will be able to get past this

  • root of my problems are, like, when I first started college a lot of the negative feelings were to do with feeling inadequate in my course and after the Leaving. Anyways, hope your new job works out better for you. Best of luck.

  • Thanks a million. And I hope it all works out for you too. It's always tough settling into a new set of circumstances and you never know how that might affect you. Have you made new friends in college?

  • Saw some of your other videos after and saw that you'd said you were feeling like yourself again. That's great : ) My depression was triggered by going to college, being lonely there, my group of friends at home drifting apart; too much change at one time. Before Christmas tho I felt it had reached a stage where just a change in my life wouldn't work, I'd got into this really bad mindset. I've taken a break from college but I am soon having counselling for self-esteem issues cos that's where the

  • Do you take it at night or in the morning? I've been on it for 5 weeks and I can't sleep at night anyway so the doc said I could start taking it at night to help me sleep. If you don't mind me asking, do you think it has improved your mood after 4 months?

  • I'm feeling so "normal" these days that I find it hard to imagine what my mood might have been like if I weren't taking the drug.

I do think it's only a crutch though. My problems were caused by the fact that my job was so shitty. I've done something about that now, I'm working out my notice and I'm starting a new job at the end of the month. Then I'll try to come down off the drugs. I'll tell you then though a follow-up.

  • A couple of years ago when I took 20mg of Lexapro, I actually lost some weight, but I do feel that is mainly because my appetite was reduced due to anxiety. Indeed, the first week you do have some nausea and diziness---but it will go away--don't give up! :)

  • I'm on the stuff 4 months now. All side-effects have since gone away.

  • any sexual side affects for you? i have been taking it for 2 days and feel a bit on edge..

  • All side effects disappear after a while, including sexual ones. ;-)

  • what about the big wieght gain i gained 40 lbs and once you put it on i dont care what the MD SAY you canot get it off

  • I actually lost weight

  • been taking xanax for 3 yrs, dr. wanted me to try lexapro, took one pill and felt out of control and very aggressive. I couldn't control it. Flushed them all. Good luck

  • I guess it depends on what you'd be taking them for. I've been taking them almost 4 months now and it's going well. The slight side effects I experienced disappeared. They have been known to intensify the symptoms at first.

  • I guess it depends on what you'd be taking them for. I've been taking them almost 4 months now and it's going well. The slight side effects I experienced disappeared. They have been known to intensify the symptoms at first.

  • You need to get of Xanax thats an EXTREMELY addictive drug and people are trying to get it off the market. There are other medications that don't give you that "HIGH" feeling that do the same thing for your personality and mental health as Xanax does.

  • Oh yeh. Side effects for me were slight drowsiness at times and weight gain, which is a plus for me cos I want to gain a few kilograms =D

  • Funny that. I'm a little overweight and I noticed the lexapro helped with the food cravings. Which is a plus for *me* because I need to lower my cholesterol too :-)

  • I;m currently on Lexapros too. Been on them for 2-3 months. They are helping my anxiety alot. Don't really have depression, maybe just slight.

  • hey i noticed you posted this video around 3 months ago

how did you go on the lexapro? are you still taking it?

  • Yup. I'm still taking it. Any of the early side effects have worn off, I feel completely normal now. But a bit better. It seems to work for me, and I hope that soon I can go half doses and then stop taking the stuff altogether. Maybe in the next two months.

  • thanks for the encouragement.

i just started taking them too, a 20mg dose

i dont feel any better yet.. its been about a month

  • I'm on half that, 10mg. Every case is unique, I guess. I did notice however that the effect was VERY subtle. It's not like suddenly I feel all happy or something. It's more like where before I couldn't be bothered, I now find myself doing things. And that slowly accumulates to improve my mood. Nothing dramatic.

  • thank you for sharing, I'm on day two. its 4:30am and i can't sleep

  • Yes, that's a possible side effect. I found cutting out the coffee helped.

  • BTW - that doesn't last. You'll settle into a routine and this problem goes away. Stick with it!

  • Also - thanks for sharing! It's good when we do this...

  • Rozeboosje don't bother taking that crap they don't do anything and they will just make things worse probably. I remember when I was younger and didn't feel good (really really bad) it took me years before going to a doctor. I tried different pills they didn't do anything. These one pills I took when I didn't take them I was really dizzy REALLY dizzy.

  • I started taking lexapro about 10 days ago. My side affects seem to be diffent than yours...

I'm also documenting the process. Every Friday I have/will make a "week in review" vid and then after about 6 weeks I will combine them into one vid with an overview at the end.

  • Looking forward to it.

  • not telling you what to do but anti-depressants dont really work, and usually when they do its a placebo effect. People feel more confident so they go out and do shit etc.

and even if it does make you feel better, its only treating the symptoms, not the cause.

you should try meditation and get more exercise.

    Im just speaking from experience.

  • I doubt that they don't work at all. After all, the serotonin reuptake inhibition must be a real, observed effect of the medication. But I think you're right in that this cannot be a long term solution. I'm hoping it will get me over the hump and then I'll have to do things on my own again.

  • I have always been able to tie my own depression to my own attitudes/experiences. And once I make the connection, and deal with it, the depression goes away.

Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance, but the chemical imbalance is caused by our own attitude and habits.

Its better to go after the cause of the cause.

  • alienjesus, it's ludicrous that you think it's a placebo. people with chronic depression just can't "get over it" or "change if they want" like you say. it is a disease in some people, not most. that is where drugs help. after six years, i believe depression will never "just go away" even with medication, but it at least makes me feel real. i'd rather have this fake happiness than be what i was or lack thereof.

  • If it really helps you go for it, but it never did shit for me, except make me more depressed because it didn't work.

I know what its like to be depressed for years on end, and I know what worked and didn't work for me.

And the placebo effect is very real. Do some research.

Anyway my original post isn't really correct. I have not "always" been able to make myself feel better. It took me about 15 years to figure it out and its still hard to maintain.

  • been there myself man, hope it turns around quickly. I have found 1000mg high grade fish oil is highly effective for me. Miraculously so. I have a problem right now with swallowing large pills...so I am a bit nervous about the winter...which is hard on me... best of luck.

  • Thanks... Interesting about the Fish Oil. Watch my next video on the subject ;-)

  • Staying vertacle helps me minimize the queasy stomach feelings.

  • Thanks.

  • I took Lexapro for about a month, a year or two ago. Didn't really do much for me.

  • I'll let you know how I get on. But my case is quite mild so maybe if it doesn't do much it might be just enough in my case.

  • It's great to hear the meds are working out so far. I think you're right about the body balancing itself out after having large quantities of caffeine.

  • Yeah. I have had no coffee yet today, and I feel ok.

  • you may have been drinking lots of coffee as a sort of self-medication. sounds like things are going well. :)

  • Yes, that has occurred to me, being on a down I try to counteract it by pushing myself up with lots of caffeine... Which works for a while but you need more and more.

  • I stopped taking that crap and over time (years and years) it just healed on its own. Probably the best thing is having someone that cares about you etc like your wife. I didn't have anyone to talk about it I keep everything inside.

So rozeboosje stay away from that crap lol.

  • I am glad things are going ok so far.. hopefulyl there are not worse side effects than those you mentioned..

  • So far so good...

  • Me, I just self-medicate.

    Better side effects!

    Good luck Roze!

  • LOL - well, if I knew what to do I might do the same. But I don't..... :P

  • Hey you, its me returned from the doc after one of my occasional manic nights, So I must sleep and I must think on it, but I may give you a vid response eventually. I had to increase my meds and get another prescription added, but you know in the end as much as you don't want to be taking them, it is so damn good in moments where you can as i did this morning look at the skyscrapers against the mountains and clearing skies and say " thats nice."

  • Yup

  • Anywho, hope your aware of your self-worth, if not, is'nt it about that time? O.o

  • :-)

  • Good to hear the side effects are minimal and that you're sleeping well. Good sleep can make a big difference. Maybe you were just drinking way too much coffee? Take care.

  • I bet that even if it wasn't a significant contributing factor, it won't have helped the situation.

  • Hi Roze. Was you reading Dr. Seuss lately related to this? I heard exercise is as effective of a cure of depression as meds. But of course, I'm no doctor.

  • Nah, I read Dr. Seuss to my daughter at bed time and I really like his stories.

  • Hey Roze: I'm wondering how much anticipation plays into what your experiencing.

  • Good point indeed, and I don't know.

  • Most of these medications build a reservoir, hence the time it takes for them to start working (and stop at the other end), so it should be a gradual change. Keep us posted. :)While this isn't an experiment of scientific nature sharing it will I'm sure enlighten many. And yay for sunshine,

  • Interesting, because today I felt a bit more elevated by the sunshine then I had expected. Not so I was jumping and skipping for joy, but just a little nugget of appreciation for the fine day. After I posted this video I managed to motivate myself to go for a walk by the sea side.

  • Interesting. I can see potential great value in YT as a mechanism for group sharing of information, observations and experiences regarding treatments such as this... No longer just having to rely on Doctors or printed studies, alone.

  • I guess, but as this is not taking place under supervised and controlled experimental conditions it's going to be hard to draw any hard and fast conclusions from this. But it's a good idea for mutual support. It certainly is that.

  • It helped me to take it before bedtime. :)

  • If I do get trouble sleeping I'll keep that in mind.

  • Last recommendations I have read on coffee consumption was to drink no more than 2 cups of coffee a day and not after noon. So if the pills intended effect doesn't work, at least the sideeffects were positive.

  • Indeed. If I come out of this with a bad habit kicked, that's progress.

  • Will watch all with great interest, hoping for a positive effect and outcome. From what I've heard 3 weeks is when it starts to kick in, but maybe progress has been made since I had a brush with doctors over such matters. Just saying hi and reminding you that you are far from alone. :)

  • Thanks again Phil. And it's also a beautiful day out. That certainly helps the mood.
