Smart idea but the concept might be too difficult to pull off in live situations. The robot has to be slow and methodical about every single leg movement or else it could fall. Although this may seem more archaic why not use powerful tiny drill bits in the feet? That way they could drill into the wall even slightly and get a firm grip on the surface.

@lboyrobot As in "live" situations I mean out on natural terrain, possibly even in live fire or enemy territory and lets not forget nature's creations are rather unforgiving on any form of automaton (Birds especially if they think it might be food or encroaching on their territory) As for the drills you're right they would just have to come up with some sort of super adhesive surface that wouldn't wear out and wasn't too strong for it too move, also pay attention at how slow it moves.

You could very easily use it for surveillance, or even mount a gun on the back. The uses for this thing in war are endless... compared to older climbing robots, this thing is pretty damn fast.
