  • cont.... OR are they BOUND to stick with "Traditional Chamorro dance" just because of their blood? I live in Las Vegas and there are no REALL Traditional Chamorro dance groups, so my kids dance Polynesian and Hip Hop. If we had a group here teaching traditional Chamorro dance, you better believe my kids would be there. But I grew up in the States myself and was never taught. One thing I WAS taught was RESPECT for ALL CULTURES, which is something that you seem to lack.

  • @CHAMORRITO, my ONE negative comment about this video would be that the title needs to be changed because this is not a "Chamorro Dance". BUT ... you say that Polys like the fact that Chamorros are promoting their culture and THAT is the reason they have never been disrespectful to us?? Okay, then what about this: would you have a problem with a group of Chamorro kids dancing Hip Hop or Street Dance?? Would you put hateful comments on THOSE videos?

  • @mauiboy8705 Took Tha Words Right Out My Mouth. But At Tha Same Time We Chamoru's Need To Stick To Chamoru Culture Or What Is Left Of It Even Tha Hispanic Dances, Lets Stay True & Bring Ah Whole Different Flavor To Tha Pacific No More Poly Dances (No Disrespect). Comin From Ah Half Breed Chamoru & Mexican

    1SpamLove!

  • @Tap1ZBar I agree. It is the Hispanic element and heritage of Chamorros that brings a different flavor to our dances. This performance in this video is shot at the Chamorro village in Agaña. All the buildings are of the old spanish style architecture. Yet despite the backdrop of the spanish architecture, you seldom see our Chamorro hispanic dances performed there. Our hispanic dances are unique in the Pacific and unique also in the hispanic-latino cultural realm. BIBA GUAM. BIBA CHAMORRO.

  • You all should be ASHAMED of yourselves!! This video is of CHILDREN dancing. And to attach such HATEFUL WORDS to this? What the hell is wrong with you??

Also, I have many Polynesian friends and let me tell you that NONE OF THEM act as disrespectfully as the ones that posted on here. So I do know for a fact that they do not represent the majority of their island/culture. Grow a heart and save the HATE for a more adult forum. ONE PEOPLE, ONE LOVE!!

  • @marielm77 Polynesians like the fact that Chamorros are promoting the polynesian culture. So they dont say anything to you about it. As long as Chamorros continue to promote the hawaiian-polynesian dances, the more exposure it is for the polynesians. Yet the Chamorro culture and heritage is still not known because of this misinformation through these ¨so called" Chamorro dances.

  • i forgot to mention my beautiful mom being white american, so our family is one big fruit salad :P

  • @mauiboy8705 good job mauiboy8705. keep the peace uso :)

  • @tagoilelagi74 thanks bro

  • cont...on you! I hope your views can change. Much love and aloha from the palauan raised on BEAUTIFUL MAUI!...cont.

Now imma ENJOY this video people took the time and effort to put on to showcase their beautiful reviving culture thank you very much!!!!

  • cont...chamorro language being closer to palauan, that means that chamorros are closely related to micronesians AND polynesians. I have been mistaken for hawaiian, tahitian, cook is, samoan, tongan, maori, niuean, fijian (randomly enough), and even more random filipino, native american, mexican. So to all you ratting on your OWN FAMILY! Shame be ...cont.

  • cont..basically, so i have no doubt that we're all related. And for some stupid people to go slamming on others is a shame, specially with pacific peoples, cuz we are ALL close family. I met some cook islanders and they told me that ancient cooks have had canoes go to and from palau in ancient days. WE ARE ALL RELATED REGARDLESS! And with ...cont.

  • cont...anyway. If not culturally then I'm positive genetically. I've grown up in hawaii my whole life and met many races, my sisters samoan, dads filipino, me, palauan as you know. With the recent influx of micronesians in hawaii, I have come to see that they have MANY physical and cultural similarities to polynesians, me being raised all around polys ...cont.

  • cont..cause karma might come back and bite you in the butt! I am part palauan. I am adopted so i wasnt raised in my culture. Im just getting in touch with my roots and my birth family and it's an exciting event. Especially because I've met some of my birth family and gonna visit them soon. Heck, we ALL in the pacific are closely related genetically ...cont.

  • why is everybody fighting? geeze! We all have the same colored blood dont we? which means we are all of one race! i mean micronesians, polynesians, melanesians, heck, africans, europeans, we all have the same origins, so we're all brothers, and if we start fighting against our own blood, what do we have? NOTHING! So watch what you say,...cont.

  • (closing) For those who believe that the dances copied. I say you should be flattered/proud that others have an interest in learning and understanding your culture & beliefs. As for the whole argument on Micronesian, Polynesian issue, I say, we're all Pacific Islanders. Chamorros have always been hospitable to all who want to make our wonderful island their home. It's sad that there are some that take advantage of our hospitality, but we let the law take care of them. Biba Guam! Biba Chamorro!

  • (...cont'd.) Much of our culture has been lost due to the forceful hand of the Spaniards & Americans who tried to beat the culture out of our ancestors, during their rule. I give kudos to those who are trying to revive our culture. Whether it be through language, dance, music or art, they are doing their best to keep it alive through their teachings. I'm doing my best as a parent to keep them involved in cultural arts. Dangkulo na Si Yu'os Ma'ase!

  • (...cont'd.) The Master of Dance 'Saina Frank Rabon' has been teaching cultural dance for over 25 years to anyone willing to learn and preserve the art of cultural dance. When these groups perform, no one claims that it's a 'Chamorro' dance. It's categorized in eras of Guam's history. Which are Ancient, Spanish & Contemporary. Although some would believe that the moves are "copied", no one culture or island has copyrights to the movements used in each dance... do they?

  • It's amazing how all this bad conversation sprouted from watching a 55 second video of a 30 minute show. My daughter & son dance for this group 'Paraisu' and the group has been around for over 10 years. The groups' director & choreographer was a member of "Taotao Tano Cultural Dancers" and decided to go out into the community to spread the love of cultuural dance. They did not copy any other culture. The movements are universal and coincide with the words used in each song/chant...

  • Mariana Islands

  • P.S. Guam IS considered micronesia, also under the U.S. like many of the micronesian islands. America still has 50 states.(those of you who are confused thinking the U.S added 1 more state & star to their flag.) LoL!

  • wow, someone needs to go back to school & learn what micronesia, polynesia & melanesia means. We are categorized as MICRO-nesians because we come from tiny islands, POLY-nesia means many and MELA-nesia means "islands of the black- skinned people". this is hilarious that a person from a place he claims to be from does not know squat about it! The chamorros & the island of rapa nui borrow dance moves from other islands because they lost their dance culture over the years...sorry, but true.

  • @viokool no they didn't. you are pretty ignorant.. it just so happens that our cultures are very similar. and that's not suprising because we all grew up in the islands.

  • ayyyeee;

    paraisu cultural dancers;

    haha;

  • so f*kin fake. i lived there...and i've seen the dances. those arent the real dances

  • guam is a micronesian island

    =]

  • ummmm.... thats the real thing!

thats my real blood cousin tiara in the beggining

  • seriously they shouldnt be taking our dances and making them up into some micro/poly dance

    and stop hating plz

    (im micronesian btw)

  • This is NOT the original dance. Guam's dance was the Bailan Espanot. THIS IS ALL MADE UP DANCE (sad). They've incorporated Polynesian and Micronesian dances into a non-indigenous Chamorro dance. The Spaniards eradicated the original dance circa 1500s and introduced Spanish influences(existing over 500yrs)which incoporated into the Chamorro traditions and custom way of life. The issue of this "Chamorro dance" is the case of AUTHENTICITY vs. FORGERY. History never lies. Research and see the truth.

  • You know during the recession you might wanna write up more visas to support your slave driven economy woops i mean your lucrative "garment industry" , say how many people with the last name Chang now live up there?

  • And also, bitch, i wouldnt say that im micronesian, polynesian or melanesian cuz i am not, I am Chamorro, you can go ahead and call yourself Micronesian cuz you know what i consider Saipanese to be micronesian, they are all traitors and you dont deserve to be Chamorro, brothers have each others back, instead you all chose to help kill us all. And you honestly think i care what you low lives think of Guamanians, yea, while we live an honest life all you people got is a casino and sweat shops,

  • Hey guess what Lei whatever your name is, its still an insult to be called Saipanese, i guess old habits never die, how long ago did we start hating you and your small ass island? o yea like at the end of the 1940's you know when you helped your Japanese brothers to destroy our island and kill thousands of your own clan members... Hey tell everyone over there that we all really enjoyed being beheaded and it was so much easier since the Japs were able to understand our screams. Traitors.

  • than guamanian chamorros are WIERD as hell...the biggest insult on Saipan and Tinian these days is to be called an amerikanu or a Guamanian...so embarrassing to other Chamorros.

  • OH wow...MGmuna90...you obviously ARE guamanian. First of all, no, not many outer islanders and the chamorros are similar, but hell, we are still categorized as micronesian...what? When someone's gonna ask you gonna say youre polynesian? Or wait, your from guam, so i guess you're an "American." Amerikanun pao asu....People north of Guam and luta do say they are micronesians and have nothing agains them, since the refaluwasch live up w/ us in the north...besides, chamorros outside of guam think

  • I agree with Hawaiianlady808. What the hell are these people doing, copying somebody else's culture. There's no way and no excuse unless you're not a true islander. You ses us Micronesians have our culure and dnaces and the Polynesians have their own. Why do somebody else's. But these people are not true islanders anyway so they do what they see out there. Micronesians have a proud culture and heritage like the Polynesians. You Asian/Guamikis don't have shit on the pacific islands.

  • to: (hawaiianlady808)

Their are many Non-Hawaiians dancing the hula,if you don't believe me try visiting the Mainland.

We're not trying to be Hawaiian, but you see Polynesian Influences in The Marianas Islands because we are fascinated with other Island Cultures, especially since much of our Original Culture was lost during Spanish Rule.

  • Hermosa cultura..!!! Tiene mucho ritmo y alegria..! Dios les bendiga y protega..!

  • and ai susti badi, lai, YES this is not a CHAMORRO dance, they should have put a chamorro dance group, and no we aint trying to be hawaiian, samoan, fijian, or cook, we just recognize all dance cultures, and plus whos ever dance group that is, NEEDS HELP.

  • oh wow, i mean i know theres a big difference, i think i would just mainly tak it offensive if someone ask me if im filipino.

  • bra fuck that.. this aint no chamorro dance...wat the fuck..you guys tryna be hawaiian....get on our level bitches

  • ai adai... there goes one more hater in this world. hawaiianlady808. Go pound some poi. or stop smokin that shit that is so popular in your island "ICE." I know that's all you hawiians do... I watched DOG the bounty hunter... LMAO!!!

  • YOur full of bullshit. Chamorros dont look down to Micronesians. Your speaking out of your ass. Chamorros are racially categorized as Micronesians whether you like it or not. Stop trying to belittle other Micronesian cultures because Chamorros are part of that race.

  • What family do you come from????? No chamorro would ever say that Chamorros are Micronesian, have you ever been to Guahan or Sa'ipan, Tinian or Luta, These Micronesians come to our islands start crime and ruin the island, Why not to long ago they busted a ring of Pohnapeiian prostitutes on Guam, Yea we're are located in Micronesia but EVERY book published tells us that our culture is not similar at all and just by looking and hearing the two compared you can tell that they arent the same.

  • (continued) I hope to God that you're not just one of those "Proud Chamorros" who profess about the culture, but cant even speak the language the one thing that has kept our people going for so long, You know I'm one of the few under 20 who can actually speak Chamorro? Ive heard Chuukese, Pohnapeiian, Krosaean and ive compared it to Chamorro and it doesnt sound alike at all, and i know from experience that our culture, beliefs and mannerisms are not the same. I've lived on Guahan, my home.

  • (continued) I know what its like to live amongst the Micronesians, hell when i was young i even played with a few, even though my parents disapproved of it. Yes we all most likely have some Micronesian blood in us, but our culture is not the same. You should read the book "Ancient Chamorro Society" it will tell you this, and also "Hale' Ta" both these books tell us that we are NOT micronesian. Hell ask your parents they'll tell you. WE ARE NOT MICRONESIAN.

  • (Continued) and just because you're chamorro doesnt mean you know everything about the culture, and as far as I'm concerned if you cant even speak or want to learn how to speak Chamorro then you aren't serious about Chamorro culture or its preservation.

  • Chamorros are similar to Malays in Malaysia and Indonesia. Chamorro is something closely related to Palauan and langauges in Indonesian archipelago.

  • good job guys! is dar in this one? if she is i cant see her.(^_^)

  • to: kansascitycheifs

Chamorro's are not trying to be Polynesian and were also not Copycats.

Most of our Original Culture was lost during years of outside influence, more so than any other group in the Pacific,so today we are trying to reconstruct it by means of incorporating ideas from other parts of the Pacific Region...We meant no disrespect to Polynesians or any other Islander Groups.

  • FIRST OF ALL... Nobody said they're trying to be Polynesian so quit it already with your damn youtube banging. it's hella OLD...

SECOND OF ALL i wouldn't say "ratty ass polynesians"... I am full Chamorro & most of my family has frizzy hair. & last time i checked we had the same skin.

Don't ruin it for the rest of us & make us look bad.

  • Original Micronesians and Polynesian originally had straight hair until they intermarried with the Papuans.

  • WHOA WHOA WHOA.....

FIRST OF ALL...

  • honey honey honey.

    to kansascitycheifs:

copy? the last thing CHAMORRUS do is copy and especially from ratty ass polynesians. your hair is frizzy, your skin is disgusting and your culture is a pathetic excuse for a fraction of traditions and values. please think what you say before dirty words flow from your fat-lipped mouth.

and to think, you consider yourself a "polynesian" and your headline is kansiscitycheifs. funny how things work out eh?

  • Frizzy headed people? Polynesians have straighter hair than Micronesians and are much lighter in skin. Don't be dissing Polynesian people just because of one stupid person. Chamorro people are basically the same as Polynesians, no difference. The only difference in my opinion is that the white people decided to claim that Chamorro people where Micronesians.

  • Ok people, lets get this all straight,Chamorro s are more directly related to south east asians especially the malay we are not micronesians and we are not polynesians, we didnt really have a form of dance our major thing was Poetry and music hence the kantan chamorrita, so this form of small movements with chanting to go with it is a bit more accurate than what most groups do. i dont fully support this type of chamorro revival but what can you do this is why it's called freedom.

  • How dare you say that! Chamorro's are Micronesians! You must be a Filipino immigrant to say such bullshit. Get your facts right.

  • Taimanu sina olok micronesian mataotao chamorru anai pa'go madistrosa i islanmami i taotao micronesia nai'an mamaila para guahan. Yan taimanu unsina sangane yo filipino guahu, uhparada ti unsina kuento gi fino' chamorro, uhhongge' mampos hao gi mobimienton taotao tano ya chamorro nation, unnecesita baba' i matamu, hanao yan estudia mas put este yan hagayo' nai'an mas kalibasu hao. Call me when you're finished translating this from your chamorro handbook okay.

  • this was to undacovabrudah by the way, ps. think before you go and insult someone, have some dignity, you sound like trash.

  • Get over yourself. If you don't want to be Micronesian then don't. Trying to say where South East Asians....psshht. In a million years we were.

  • I'll take that as i dont know chamorro cuz i talk the talk but i cant walk the walk, also because im speaking outta my ass cuz i really havent read up on the subject, munga ma sanganeyo' put i kutturahu. why dont you go read a book or something, you might learn something

  • No I've done all the reading and I know what I am and where I come from. I'm a proud chamorro/polynesian. I know I'm a Pacific Islander/Micronesian/Polynesian and I don't claim my people are from South East Asia or are of South East Asian descent like some people do.....hmmm

  • O yea and by the way, way to contradict yourself you said in your original comment that chamorros arent micronesian and that we are polynesian, and also where the hell do you think that all pacific islanders came from??either you're lying about doing all that reading or you can understand english because most texts if not all suggest that all pacific islanders migrated from South East Asia, chamorro language is a lot closer to the malay languages than any other. You should read those books again.

  • LOL!!!! bahaha It's obvious I meant that I was half Polynesian half Micronesian. Don't try and twist my words and make them into something I never said. I did not state that Chamorros were Polynesians and thanks for stating that I understand english... its one of my favorite subjects.

  • Dude i swear you're retarded, read your own damn post "Chamorros have straighter hair than micronesians they're like Polynesians, no difference." and SECOND of all if you're not even chamorro than what makes you think that you can tell me or any other chamorro that we're Micronesian, its fine for you to be proud of that but dont go around telling people who they are, i didnt tell you that you're mexican or something.

  • (continued) here is what you said.... "Frizzy headed people? Polynesians have straighter hair than Micronesians and are much lighter in skin. Don't be dissing Polynesian people just because of one stupid person. Chamorro people are basically the same as Polynesians, no difference. The only difference in my opinion is that the white people decided to claim that Chamorro people where Micronesians." I'm not twisting your words, dont say things if you dont mean it or cant back it up.

  • Polynesians and Micronesians are similar and culture and lifestyle and oral traditions. If you did any research you would see that most Polynesians and Micronesians have the same genetic chromosomes and are distinctly related. Chamorro's are Micronesian that's all i was trying state and yes in my opinion Polynesian culture is very similar to Micronesian culture there is no distinct difference.

  • Yes i know that Micronesians and Polynesians are similar but any Chamorro will tell you that our culture is COMPLETELY different from that of Micronesians, our language, our beliefs are completely different if you have ever heard chuukese compared to Chamorro it has no similarities, but if you heard Chamorro with Bahasa Indonesia or Malaysia then you would see several similarities in grammar and words, ive actually researched this and there is no doubt that Chamorros are NOT Micronesian.

  • LMFAO.... omg seriously please don't.

  • Dude, you're not even Chamorro why does it even concern you, and seriously pls dont tell me that im micronesian, btw if you hadnt noticed people on Guam have always hated micronesians, they come to the island drink, party, destroy things, they prostitute themselves and are involved in drug rings, Chamorros have always thought Micronesians lower than us, my parents would slap me if i even acknowledged Micronesians.

  • I am Chamorro you asshole. Get your facts right.

  • Did you think that Chamorros just popped out of nowhere? You moron. Chamorro language can be traced in Philippines, Madagascar, Sulawesi, Palau, and Marianas Islands as part of Western Austronesian language. Therefore only one geographical place Chamorro or Micronesian originated from and thats South East Asia. Specificly Formosa Island aka Taiwan (origin of all Austronesian language spoken by Polynesian, Micronesian, even as far as Madagascar island in E African coast.)

  • What? Whatever you go ahead and keep copyin us but you will never be considerd a polynesian

    -Malosi Samoa

  • ????????????

  • itz called cultural arts ...

chamorro/chammoru ... never heard of guam, so nvm then

  • good job my sister was ih this
