BRAVO !!!!! Good thing you invented this, saves me alot of money! Still, a record chain and sprockets are verry expensive, but not as expensive as the all package.
I race semi-pro and I have the left lever braking the rear dual pivots. It's just a matter of preference. For me, my right hand is more responsive to nerve signals and this results in better modudation of the front brake which makes it better to corner sharp turns.
Why do u have the left shifter working the back brake it should go for the front brake and the right shifter should control the back brake. Also u are cross chaining switch to the large chainring
@TheAlan94 In Australia and Many parts of Europe too I am told, front brakes are on the right. All the motorbikes I have had have been frontbrake on the right too. I am told though that the Americans have front brake on the left though.
@tommo2785 yes in america bikes have the front brake controlled with the left and the back brake with the right . All the bikes that are in the store usually like this all the specialized, giants and cervelos are like this unless you want to change it. But i'm used to having on the right that's why it seems so weird but we all have our ways.
@stopglobalswarming Actually mate in Europe (excluding uk ) they run there right shifter as there rear brake they have always done that in england is the other way around
@milkthecow11 Maybe. In America, the left hand is used for signaling, and motorcycles are designated with the RH/FB setup, so it is wise here to run RH/FB on bicycles. A lot of dept store bikes come with the brakes backwards because most Americans are right handed, and do not know how to operate a front brake properly. hahahaha
hi, was wondering if theres an old and new 10 speed models? Im using a 2006 chorus cassette (10speed) and a 2008 Centaur lever shifters. I couldnt use the 4th cog from the smaller cog. I have to shift to 5th and down to 4th to do that.
My chain is the hollow pin CR ( Not sure either if this is a 10 speed Record chain.
Am I the only one in the world that no longer cares about having more freaking chainrings on my cassette? Hell, 5 was enough. I'm getting tired of having to change my chain ever 1500 miles and my 3 charings on my cassette every 6000.
I have an old "10 speed" bike and haven't ever had a newer bike w/ a cassette so I have no experience w/ the newer systems. You mention that the chains, & sprockets wear out sooner on these new 1000 gear bikes than the older ones. Is that really true? I've never heard anyone mention that before.
@deezynar The chain rings, sprockets and chain are all thinner now and you're still applying the same force along the chain, and on top of the sprockets. You have the same amount of friction, and a smaller surface area to apply it on.
A chain lasts me max 2000 miles on a bike with 9 sprockets on my cassette - if I go much further than that, I start to damage my cassette- and I have ruined cassettes plenty by allowing the chain to get too long.
Thanks for the reply. That makes perfect sense, I'd just never heard anyone say it before. Do you think better materials would help? They're saying they're using better steel in the chain now & better anodizing on the chainrings. I wonder if that will help.
@deezynar I don't know if better materials would help. I'm an electrical engineer, not a structural one.
It's just a fact of life, by the time I'm 80, there will be 100 sprockets on a chain ring, and the chain will be about a mm wide and the chain will have to be replaced after every ride. That's how things are headed.
When I was a kid, I rode my bike 5000 miles, in mud and rain, before the chain had to be serviced. That was back before Schwinn sucked.

@TheAlan94 Only fucktards run the front brake to the left hand, unless they don't have a right hand.

Having a bike with 44 different possible gearing ratios perhaps?
People are bizarre.
