  • When did UP build a new shop in Colton, thats odd since they had SP's Colton yard and shops.

Turntable was built for SP's biggest steam loco's, used to have round houses there back in the day.

Turntable is so big even the U50 had tons of room left when on it.

When Sp built Colton yard they started trying to get the trade workers to go out there, most didn't wanna relocate or make the drive but that was the writing on the wall.

  • UP built a new shop out at Colton.

  • Why was Taylor Yard abandoned?

  • @ModalTrains4884 The actual Taylor yard was abandoned piecemeal back in the 1980's. After the SP built the Palmdale cutoff which allowed trains from the east and north to bypass the congestion of the Los Angeles terminal trackage Taylor yard became less and less important and most of the classification was done at West Colton. The shops remained open for awhile even after the UP takeover. The turntable is misleading as Taylor never serviced steam engines there.

  • Yes it is. That's why I figured I had better documnet it.

  • That is just depressing
