  • man, i've really been trying to find a live version of this somewhere, they have a bunch of live stuff on here, but not this song, someone HELP!

  • ...well, we've identified the 18 people who surf YouTube who have NO TASTE in music whatsoever.

  • Ruth Etting?

    Olive Thomas?

  • magic......

  • Couldn't agree more with you- every time I hear old Cars music, it brings back thoughs of my HS years. I still pop in the first album alot while driving.

  • LOve it .I attended the concert @ Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, 2 weeks after this album was released in 1979, The Cars played all the hits and other great songs from first 2 albums , just awesome sound although back then they didn't do much interesting on stage, just stood there & played the music. Sonicly though it was the best concert i ever attended :D !!!!

  • they have a distinctive kind of sound that very is different from the other group

  • It truely is " all I can do" awsome

  • Very talented individuals. Love this music.

  • SPEECHLESS !

  • Listened to this on my walk-man cassette tape player, which was powered by dry cell lantern batteries worn on my custom government surplus ammo belt, playing cat & mouse with Russians under the North Atlantic. If your stuck in a tube under water for three-four months you might as well be listening to the best !

  • Love this song...takes me back to my senior year in HS....fond memories.

  • Universal amphitheater 1979...outdoors. What a concert.

  • This soung is so great , there is no band like the cars !

  • Great guitar solo. Nothing fancy, just fits the song so well and very original in style and execution.

  • @awrsailor I agree. If you don't play the air guitar to this one you haven't mastered the art yet. LOL

  • where is talent like this today? Rap and top 40 sucks compaired to the the CAR.s sound

  • @Ticona2 Where is the talent? good question. I would say there will never be talent like the cars in the next 100 years! Hands down

  • @Ticona2 there is no more rap, rap died in the 90s which had substance

  • Can you believe they STILL are not in the RRHOF?

  • @thrasherman1981 Yeah, it is amazing what they call talent now in days. They won't let them in HOF untill they are dead, at that point it does not matter. But hey we appreciate the good music and pure talent. Rock on!

  • You can't fuck with the Cars.

  • Takes me back to 1981 when I was a junior in high school. Great memories.

  • Yup, high school memories...a cigarette, bad hair and this song turned up real loud...

  • @tazie45 Wait a minute, could you be describing our current government?

  • I learned this song by ear on my buddy's sixty-something Danelectro flat-top, just playing along with the record. It's still my favorite Cars song.

  • Memories, memories thank GOD for music. Thank you CARS for all your GREAT MUSIC!!!

  • sadly, i'm the only kid in my class who knows who this is

  • @2020skywarp handed Candyo picture in of the CARS? what did it say?

  • my teacher allowed me to draw her in drafting class...LOL :D

  • @patchcords what you do when you where done drawing her?

  • @2020skywarp I handed her in as an assignment, I got an A ;-)

  • Purely Ultimate!

  • So simplistic yet so excellent!

  • Is it true the cars never played this song live in concert?

  • 14 people are gay and 3 are bull dykes!

  • The best song they ever recorded!!!!! Benny Orr sang this with perfection!!!!! I, like he did, am suffering from the same disease and was also a bass player and singer back in the day. Long live Benny and his unique talent!!!

  • @yariteok I'm sorry. Keep him close to you, he was a hell of a musician and an inspiration to all of us. I never knew at the age of 5, he'd have such a profound effect on my life. His voice and music encourages me to stand on my own and to believe love exist somewhere.

Stay the Night is my favorite, always. Take care of yourself and pick up your bass again:) Play yor heart out and love the music

  • that album cover was so everyday when i was young..now its surreal.

  • to iperdman1 yes, yes he is

  • \\\|/// d(>w<)b \\\|///

  • The Cars have this driving rhythm like no other band that they can come up with endless greatness !!

  • erronious2010 You Are a True Tard !

  • One song I will never ever get tired of listening to!

  • Is there a video of them playing this anywhere???? Love it!

  • It's the cars that opened me up to bands like, Stereo Lab, Stereo Total, soft cell, gary numan, omd, the smiths, the cure, joy division, new order, eddie cochran, wanda jackson, joe jackson, the vibrators,

  • the cars are in my opinion one of the best bands to come out of the eigties. my father had every record and all through jr high and early high school these albums were always on my turntable, until my dad got tired of me highjacking his records and gave me heartbeat city for christmas. I was suprised he payed attetion to the music i was listening to.. it was cool we had the same taste. the cars "my teenage years".

and the birth of my love fore romantic synthesizers.

  • @erronious2010 the CARS started in 1977, therefore they arent just an 80s band.

  • @THECARS7879 Is it true that "Candy O" stood for Wendy O. Williams?

  • @CrazyBear65 Candyo i think just stands for Candice bro. the girl in the picture, her name was Candyo, short for Candice.

  • Check out the Alt version demichael186 post. Kind of cool.

  • Quite possibly my favorite Cars song.

  • love the drums........

  • @auggdogrules Me too. I tried playing them one day.

  • My dad is blasting The Cars in the garage at the same time I'm in my room blasting The Strokes......

  • @ThinCrustPizza67 Love both those bands- you got a cool dad!

  • This tune rocks! One of my favorites from high school. It brings me back to those forsaken hallways and classrooms!!

  • Great tune. I read somewhere that the art cover was done by Vargas, the same guy who did Playboy pinups.

  • @MrDudester1 That is correct. He came out of retirement to do it.

  • Elliot Easton's guitar playing is so smooth; it sounds almost like a violin. He is one amazing guitar player and Benjamin Orr's voice is perfection.

    The Cars Rock!

  • Very Underrated band

  • Liked listening to this and other car tunes when on submarine patrol in the N. Atlantic at 600 FT with a very slight roll.

  • @Eastonfan1 ... & i wanted to respond to you because just before i logged on here ... i was running an errand earlier this morning & was staring at a building with the name easton on it . strange .. but strange has been familiar lately.

  • @Eastonfan1 ... i can only describe the feeling id get when the first chords came on the radio ... as if a door to a different room inside me would open.

  • I don't got beiber fever no more

  • post the roast of charlie sheen ;( jk i hate that druggie-_-

  • its all i can poo

  • @HReachforger ...to keep pooing on you.

  • tomron....Thanks for the info...I didn't know Ric wrote them all. I still like Ben's voice much better.

  • Man I love this!!!! Idk Ben didn't like singing this live.... It's sounds better than Drive

  • This is my favorite song by The Cars. I liked Ben's songs much better than Rick's. I thought Ben had a much better voice. I was sad when I learned he had died. I am sorry to hear he didn't care for this song. I Really love it.

  • @avdreader1 When you say Bens songs, i assume you mean the ones Ben sang. Ric wrote all of the songs, Ben just did lead vocals on some.

  • @tomrom7 HI tomron7; I'm not sure if you are aware, but Ben Orr released a solo album called "The Lace" in the mid-80's at the height of The Cars. Ben was multi-talented and was an excellent song writer, but Ric would not allow Ben or any of the others contribute their music to The Cars line up :-( Ric has been video taped saying this and it's available on You Tube.

Listen to "Coming Up You" on "Door to Door" and listen to Ben's solo work & you will hear similarity.

  • It's all I can do, it's all I can do.

  • the cars ... a thick stitch in the fabric of my high school years. this .. my absolute favorite. so nostalgic to me

  • @dyedinsoul Ohhhhhhhhhh SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A great band from my 10th grade, early Eighties

  • see me :)

  • the 15 of you dislikes can suck me...punks im sure

  • This could maybe be the GREATEST song that ever came out of the 70's!!!!!!!!

  • did they ever play this live? cant find it anywhere

  • They were a lot like the Eagles....... They did not have a bad song......

  • @Rschrieber They didn't play this song live because this was Benjamin's least favorite song. He wouldn't perform this song live. I can't understand why.... One of his best!!!

  • great voice,great lead guitar & GREAT lyrics !!! R.I.P. Ben !!!!

  • Like it or not.....It's All I Can Do !!

  • The first BAR draws you in and CAPTURES you. If you don't like this, you don't understand music. (smooches 2 all!!!)

  • reminds me of picking salmonberries for cash in kodiak when i was a wee lad, listening to this cassette in a boombox over and over with my best friend matt morey

  • My favorite Cars song.

Reminds me alot of girls i dated.

  • it's all i can do to stop listening to this song over and over...

  • 1:54- 2:12 guitar leads are pure heaven , among the finest-sounding

  • @sheltech12 Yes!!! Elliot Easton is a fucking Guitar God! He's one of mine anyway! Amazingly great lead work here. It just fucking Shimmers.

  • Real music right here..PERIOD!!

  • I twisted the gate when I was crazy I thought you were great ...

  • any experts out there want to take a crack at the synth that Greg is playing in this song? The Roland Jupiter 8 did not appear until 1981, and he did play that one (according to vintage synth explorer) but this synth had to be something else since its in 1979. Thanks in advance.

  • @sadalite

Probably the reason i love this song....AWESOME SYNTH!!..

  • Comment removed

  • Ben Orr sang this song perfectly... Watch The Cars video called "You are the Girl" and you will see something very strange. The girl on the monitor starts flashing calendar dates (two exactly), one of the dates is April 2000. Thats the month Ben Orr found out he had terminal cancer and he died 6 months later. The video was made way back in 1987. Strange how things like that just happen, eh?

  • What a Great song on an AWESOME album ! I loved the original Cars...brings back so many memories ;-)

  • Classic.

  • i like the cars, reminds me of the good old days. and i really dont care what other people think about them. i get on here to listen to the music. just saying

  • Great Album

  • I was 18 years old in 1979, and the world still sparkled. I'm sure you know the feeling. Then the ensuing decades sort of quickly unwind, until the past takes on a greater sense of importance then you ever thought it would (I’m sure you know that feeling too). To paraphrase Billy Joel: cold beer, hot lights, my sweet, romantic teenage nights." There may be life after high school, but it's never quite the same again.

  • Really BORING!!!!???? WelI do mind you coming here wasting all my time

  • @Sordidlives1973 better than any new stuff being shat out these days... *cough cough* eminem beiber owl city etc... etc..

  • @Sordidlives1973 better than any new stuff being shat out these days... *cough cough* eminem beiber owl city etc... etc..

  • @Sordidlives1973 So are you. Get lost kid.

  • @Sordidlives1973 I've heard people say the same thing about The Beatles before. You'd probably agree too, eh?

  • @Sordidlives1973 dont come on the page then

  • @Sordidlives1973 The Cars are boring?! So you came to this thread to masturbate to the picture then?

  • @Sordidlives1973 The Cars are boring...to idiots.

  • @Sordidlives1973 Did your parents have any kids that lived ? Or did you all perish on a bus trip to nowhere?

  • It is all I can for you. Later I can do better on my own!!! lol

  • I canceled my flight from going nowhere ...

  • there isnt one bad song on the Candyo album

  • @THECARS7879

  • i remember when this song came out was with the hottest girl ever jane la valley rip my love

  • Why is there a Dislike button?

  • what a great song this is.

  • how can anyone dislike this???---

  • Bands like this one and Blondie as well as some others were dubbed "new wave" in the late 1970s.

  • The Cars were my all time favorite band growing up... Even today I love listening to their songs.. We all know they don't make songs or music quite like this anymore..

  • Very sad Benjamin Orr passed away :(

  • Good song......brings back old memories and feelings

  • One of the greatest leads of all time. Go Elliot, you're a f***in' monster!!!

  • Skateboarding at age 12 and I thought this was punk music?

  • Cars had way to many great songs to pick a fave. Least thats what im thinking

  • Wow great music to a great album cover lol.

  • Funny this song was never on their greatest hits since I think its their best one. It was their first hit.

  • The cars were a basement group for me and my friends back in da day. The girls really liked the music.

  • im slightly obsessed with this song right now
