The pyro is a man, you should see his early concept art and "merriwhether helm" (I think that's what it's called). The reason the pyro wears feminine, random and ludicrous things (antler strapped to head, rubber glove, plunger) is because the guy is messed up in the head, he's a psychopathic killer who watches the flesh melt off peoples faces for a living.
