  • TripleOctaveMusic. Take some deep breaths. This would not sound nearly as cool without the rhythm section. Or even with virtually any other rhythm section there. They all know each other so way, and play like it.

  • @BonefidePsychonaut I was joking.

  • Why does everyone focus on the other bloody musicians, LOOK AT F**KING JOSHUA REDMAN !

  • @TripleOctaveMusic dude, do you even know who those "other bloody musicians" are??? I mean, I'd watch a full solo concert of any of them....

  • @theorygeek000 I do it was a light hearted joke lol

  • all star line up right here.

  • Fat beats.

  • wow, its so goooooood.

I feel in the sky when i hear that

  • good music

  • Brad swings so hard - I've never heard this side of him! What albums are there where he's rippin' it up like this?!

  • @BlueinGreen2 Check out his solo on Anthropology from When I Fall in Love (by the "Mehldau & Rossy Trio"). That shit will blow your mind.

  • @ledzepdennis Will do man, thanks a lot. Spotify is pathetic and doesn't have it but I'll let you know when I get a listen of it.

  • the VHS tape hiss is playing the 3rd; which sounds good over the I7 chord but it's pretty dissonant over the IV7!

  • @songsmadeforyou

I have a friend who once felt nauseous on a boat because the engine noise was flat.

I must say I laughed for about five minutes when I saw your comment, thank you very much.

  • @songsmadeforyou Also cool for 13th over V7 chord ;-)

  • Swingg man !!!

  • Steamin'

  • Joshua is the man !!!

  • Man, that bassist can do whatever he wants.

  • funny thing is..... christian has gotten SO much better since this

  • HOOOOOOLY SHIT!

  • What a Band! Everything is so right! The amazing playing and soloing and of course the 90's Clothes (Mehldau's too big jacket, and McBride's Art Blakey Shirt). Great! It's so cool to see them having fun while playing a blues in Eb.

  • He looks more like Jeter every single day

  • just saw the brad mehldau trio at yoshis in oakland a few nights ago. joshua redman sat in with them for almost half the set. fucking awesome.

  • Fantastico!

  • Show de fraseados!!!muito bom esse vídeo! To Brazil!

  • redman è pazzesco...cmq è un balance non un mark vi

  • AWW PLAY IT!!!

  • To morkus26: I couldnt agree more!

  • Christian Is a bad man!!!

  • Man! Derek Jeter swings so hard!

  • @bigdaveV12 you got damn right....

  • @bigdaveV12 now that i look at it, he looks more like Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter had a kid.

  • @bigdaveV12 who?

  • @bigdaveV12 You are so awesome.

  • @bigdaveV12 , if you watch the older (1960's) videos of Dexter Gordon, you'll see Obama swinging like a wild man (lol)!

  • @bigdaveV12 Well and that's Nate McMillan from the Portland Trailblazers on bass. Who knew?

  • @itowedin lol : ))))

  • Brian Blade SWINGS

  • This is a blueprint for how to play a blues! It's perfect, I really hope this never ever gets taken down, I'll be devastated!

  • joshua is not sold out retard a he is getting a lot more fame and hes gettin alot better i love the way way he plays

  • interesting to hear redman on a mark vi

Christian looks like hes having a good time

  • Bellissima

  • it is in Eb

  • anybody know what key this is in?

  • the job of the bass player is to follow the soloist in a solo situation so mcbride is doing his job

  • Comment removed

  • it's nice to hear mehldau playing straight ahead once in a while...but i'm glad he doesn't always play this way. his innovation is what makes him unique, and as good as he plays in this video, i'm glad he branched out and took on his own identity.

  • When was this?

  • The pianist makes me want to fix my posture lol beasty players!

  • They can do all that wonder modern jazz phrasing and still swing a lot! One of the best performances of this quartet i've ever heard

  • He grooves so hard!

  • mmm that's swinging baby! awesome

  • Is it just me or is he not using his SBA selmer in this one?

  • by the looks of the neck logo, its a ref 54, or maybe 34.

  • fair enough being able to play insane changes and crazy timings, but a players real character comes out on a simple 12 bar blues. awesome performance

  • KILLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Redman is a demonic beast. Forget about religion. We all known that. And he will be at yoshis right now guys. SMarten up.

  • yea dude i just saw him today

  • This Guy is insane! Haha Amazin, he does what he wants exactly how he wants it...aaaa I wish I could just pick my horn up and belt out some Redman!

Also that sexy lookin sax he's playing would look great in my life :P

  • a smokin' trio with a hell of a saxophone player...

    i like.

  • Kind of diatonic-ish 'insert-aebersold-lick-here' solo at first... but the groove! Fantastic! You can just play whatever you want so long as you play it like that. :)

  • Scary how great Brad was..Unbelievable.

  • What a bunch of professionals.

  • simplemente el mejor bn en m opinion es muy muy bn en el sax kisiera tokar asi mis respetos

  • Whoo! Brad Mehldau quoting Bobby Timmons Whaaa! All of them paid their dues allright. No proprer modern music can exist without respect for and knowledge of the traditions.

  • This is a fucking super group. Just sick beyond all reason. It's just not fair

  • 2:26 - 2:38 Coltranesque

  • wow. just wow

the passion and energy are inspiring

    all 4 players are incredible

    awesome clip

  • redman n mehldau.. lol DAMN!! lol

  • This may be the best Mehldau clip ever - his Wynton Kelly chops are amazing

  • damn brian blade can play any jazz. and listen that comping so tastful

  • I make mistake.Piano,of course,Mehldau.Pardon!

  • Sounds of this blues and solo by Brian Blade are more interesting on jazz fest in Umbria.

  • Melhdau is simply Amazing. Is Incredible how he's changing the way of making piano!..

    Also }redman is }}great ! Great Video .. Thanks

  • they look like they're just out of college :D hahaha Great climaxing Mehldau solo

  • yeah, but sound like they´ve been around for ever and ever!

  • I love Christians sound of his bass its amazing.

  • he's blows up the balance'ometer!!!

  • Dam that was one of the best blues recording I've ever heard. Does anyone know what DVD this is off of?

  • Damn that piano solo was fucking sick! That man is on fire.

  • absoultely amazing. they make up the living legends, or rather legends to be.

  • Brad Mehldau il nero piu bianco che ci sia.. : )

    grandissimoooooooo

  • fuckin dope

  • impressive solo by brad, he's always had fresh ideas and he keeps it interesting all the way through.

  • I'd like to add that they all are swinging their asses off in a more traditional way than I'd expect from them, which is cool and different in this context.

  • I'd like to add that they are all very young in this video as you can tell from Joshua's solo style and look at Brian Blade! Old Newport Jazz - very traditional - I am enjoying it.

  • WHOA! Brad is playing super in and straight ahead and bluesy! And it's still awesome, and him. But it also shows how much his originality has developed and matured since then.

  • the tet' is too hot, really.

  • This quartet is too hot man. I love all of these players individually and its rare to find so many awesome talents that gel so well together without battling each other. They all seem to have an understood respect for each others input and they all, Redman especially, seem to enjoy watching and listening as much as playing. I love it. Wish they still were playing in this lineup.

  • Is this a mark VI ?

  • Balanced Action..

  • Sorry, I meant he now plays a BA..

  • This is actually his MK VI look at the neck

  • no it's a mak vi

  • Yeah

  • i know wat mouthpiece this iz i just completely forgot the name, i'll post it when i rememba lol

  • I'm pretty sure he uses a florida otto link STM, but sometiems he will use the HR otto links or a birlhart. But here it is definately the STM

  • some complain about brad but seriously hes playing 3 of the best!

  • Damn! Plain and simple, nobody has chops on bass like christian! And you would be an idiot if you somehow couldn't swing with blade and christian backing you up. Even if you are improvisation master mehldau! This is BAD!

  • great blues.....awsome bass solo at 6:28.

  • Brad Mehldau or Jonny King?

  • brad

  • Man, this group. I wish they had stayed together longer, this one of the great quartets of our time.

  • joshua redman is one of the few contemporary sax players who can play blues riffs and still be genuine

  • I saw a show where he did standards and played like the era they were written in. He played Body and soul like Coleman, Confirmation like Charlie. great show.

  • Redman was playing his ass off then lol!!! I wish he would go back to that setup with that Mark VI.

  • Yes his playing on this video is awesome, but I prefer his actual sound, with the VI, he sounds too soft

  • well it's not the VI that makes him sound soft. That's a mouthpiece/reed situation. maybe he needed harder reeds or a more open mouthpiece.

  • Yes, but the sax can influence a little bit (with the same mouthpiece on the balanced, he has a more edgy tone, but I don't know for his reeds)

  • Or maybe he just isnt playing loud because he is miked....... There is no way you can play a technically sound if you are blowing your brains out

  • I've seen joshua uses some different mouthpiece.. metal or hardrubber mouthpiece. What about this, it doesn't seem an ottolink.

    thx

  • It's a link with a Selmer metal ligature.

  • this is like the all-star game of jazz

  • I dare someone to find something that swings harder than this blues.

  • Blues On The Corner form McCoy's new album with Chit McBride and Tain.

  • If anyone wants to be as good as Redman there are only 4 things you can do.

    1.Practice

    2.Get a bad ass 90's haircut

    3.Pierce your ear.

4.And the most important is Pray all day long.

  • sorry to hear you guys didnt like my comment...

he has a real 90's look though

  • u so funny...:/

  • I don't think he's a religious person. I think practicing will make you a lot better than praying. Mostly because praying is just another word for not having the initiative to get up off your ass and work but still want something.

  • How is this comment remotely related to anything having to do with this video or this music?

  • Someone on here said practicing would make you better. It was in response to them.

  • Practicing does make you better

  • That's what I said.

  • religious ? and the rest you said... what ?

could you please remove this comment !

  • Forget the haircut and piercing your ear, but "Practice" and "Pray" to work with people like Meldau, McBride and Brian Blade; all masters of their art..

    Yours sincerely, Turbenfoil

  • Wonderful, Happy and joyful swinging music. Thanks again, Turbanfoil

  • for any bass players wanting to learn how to play a blues

christian mcbride...i need not say anymore

  • Don't forget Ray Brown! One of McBride's inspirations.

  • i couldn't agree more

christian n ray all the way is the way i feel

  • brad playing straightahead??

    AWESOME

  • Check out Barcelona Crossing w/ Perico Sambeat. It's 2 volumes of pretty straight ahead Mehldau. They're 2 of the best albums I own.

  • always a treat when there's new joshua redman on youtube

  • this is great stuff!!!!

  • Nice stuff...thanks for posting this.
