Max Payne 3 and this game right here are the only 2 games I am waiting for. I think I'm done with the Resident Evil series. I just hope Rockstar doesn't fuck up what a great game Max Payne was, but they're Rockstar after all, always making great games and I hope this Silent Hill game isn't like the abomination that Homecoming was. I didn't even complete the game because I kept getting tired of being jumped by 7 or 8 monsters all the damn time, constantly rolling around.
and btw. making silent hill with more action and gore doesnt helped much expending the

Is his worth playing by today's standards when pitted against action RPGs like Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age 2? I used to LOVE resident evil and silent hill series 10 years ago but in recent years they've seemed increasingly boring against the competition. I'm hoping for one that will live up to it's modern day competitors. So what of this and the newer Resident Evil? Are they both even on PC and are they worth the cash and time?
is there always a cop in silent hill? oh well. i love the series, but i would love it to be more psychological than ever. silent hill 2 was my fave cause the story had me thinking the whole entire time. silent hill's music will never be topped either.
Seeing everything they've done thus far, they seem to have atmosphere down right, but there are other areas I'm worried about- like the action bits, etc. Still, it looks awesome.
And the developers, in an interview, said that they were going to abandon some of the more idiotic traits of the last game, like Pyramid Head, the nurses, weapons, THANK YOU! & they're trying to write this as a story, rather then a love letter to the fans of Silent Hill.
All of that sounds great, but I have mainly one question, WHY DOES THE IT GRAPHICALLY LOOK LIKE ASS!

This Silent Hill 6 looks good but you can never beat Silent Hill 2! I first played it when I was 11 and it scared the SHIT out of me! A gift from dad! :D When it first came out in 2001 on PS2 and to be honest it took me and my 2 brothers and my cousin 2 years to complete it! Because we had no internet and the riddles where so hard! Then we lent SH2 to my uncle a year later after we completed it and he done it in 11 hours straight! :O
RE4 was good but it was not a true resident evil game. look at the old and remake RE1 look at RE 2 and 3. what did the game have? Zombies. thats what RE started with and thats what it ended with. thumbs up if you agree
Oh great, another hand-held flashlight... I want the return of the lapel/pocket light! Also, 3:34 might give some credence to that whole "Silent Hill is just a regular town i.e. no real monsters" theory.
This Silent hill sounds and looks like it will be pretty awesome! I guess they say this one you can only hold one weapon at a time or so (Which eventually it breaks or runs out of ammo) and if one does get in a fight with a monster they'll be close to death by the time they kill it. Hopefully this one lives up to the reputation of Silent Hill 2!
@Timberwolfdr I absolutely agree For me, the best of the series were Silent Hill 2 and 3, 3 being my favourite. I was disappointed with The Room (although you can't deny that Walter Sullivan's REALLY creepy) because of the lack of darkness(and flashlight)Homecoming was much improved, but I feel like the extreme "feeling of the need to find society" has been forgotten since The Room because of too much human contact and lack of feeling so alone. I hope this game goes back to the feel of 2 and 3.
The new silent hill producer must ad more dirt over wall's en floors sort kind of dirty dark blood over the floors like Akira do. and music can be more psychopathic like slaughterhouse example hell descent more industrial and ambient. we don't need complex piano playing or orchestral scarry strings like in Friday the 13th. we need only feeling ambient!! it is game no Music to listen but giving feeling to know what happening.

@CafecitoConLeche Yeah true, I thought this was was 6, so today I had typed in Silent Hill 6 on Youtube to see if there is some footage of the game, but then it said 8 so I had to double check on Google and it was 8... so, I was like WTF?
Oh and if they fuck it up by putting ten filters of static, blur, white noise and all kinds of crap Ill also be mighty pissed! It doesnt add anything but blindness for me when they do that. You want to hide monsters than use fog and darkness like the old days. I know that would require alot of thinking on their part. They should look at the old days of silent hill 2 to see what they did right.
Whatever the case I hope they get rid of the annoying outdated save system (9 save points ughhh!!) of homecoming. It was almost as bad as having to use a fuckin ribbon in the typewriter ala resident evil..

Great, another unneccesary, out of place love interest. I guess I'm just being cynical but it looks pretty obvious from this. The convict and the policewoman. It's not like that hasn't been done a thousand times before right? What is it about love interests that makes game developers think every protagonist absolutely has to have one. The only SH game where the whole love thing has been interesting to watch was in 2 with James and his wife and she wasn't even alive at the time.
hmmm... I see where KONAMI where going by making a prison escapee the main character, that makes mush more sense instead of making a middle-aged father who never handled a gun before the main character.

I'm sick of people whining about Akira Yamaoka not being the composer for the score of this game. Don't get me wrong, I too love his music but it is not this that makes Silent Hill, Shattered Memories featured his work and it was a bad game i.m.o. (At least it is the only one in the series that never played again after finished it). Let's wait until we have our hands on this game and after having played it then we can give a valid opinion. I hope this one doesn't turns into a dissapointment.

@AstianBravesoul I see what your saying, but at least the developers are trying to give us something new to play with in the Silent Hill universe. The same repetitive concept over and over, game after game, would just get boring. The series needs to evolve, and that's exactly what it's done. I just hope the game isn't a copy of Alan Wake, since that was completely dire.
Now, don't get me wrong, i'm sure this Daniel Licht guy is a great composer... but I don't think he can write a song that's as haunting lyrical and deeply disturbing/beautiful as 'Room of Angels' It's too bad Akira didn't come back. Downpour has little connection to the original series, no big alessa moments, or The Order or Etc Etc. He's just an unlucky Prisoner who got warped up into the town that plays on people's negative past.

If anyone cares, the music isn't done by the series original music composer, Akira Yamaoka, but instead is done by Daniel Licht. He's the composer for DEXTER, and a few horror flicks like Children of the Corn and Hellraiser.
after i read an article on this game I thought it sounded a lot better than what this trailer made it out to look like. the fact that they're bringing back fixed camera angles and also mixing it with the over the shoulder camera angles that they used in Homecoming and Shattered Memories is pretty awesome.
though the fact that Akira Yamaoka left and the music is now done by that Dexter guy is a little disappointing (Daniel Licht does great music, but so far it sounds like Goosebumps music)

Silent hill Downpour Facts You only use 1 weapon and they break = realistic and awesome. Murphy does gets scared. He often swings inaccurately = awesome. you most likely make kills and run = a good thing to do. the otherworld is not going to be like previous silent hill games (all). this has a very deep story. the game and characters can be different based on your actions. side quests. free gameplay/explore. has nothing to do with alessa or james etc. its going to be fucking great!

Silent Hill is one of my favourite series. But if I don't like one of the games (I didn't like Shattered Memories for instance) I just shrug it off and enjoy the rest of the storylines.
They're fun games. Why do people have to spoil things for themselves by whining? If Silent Hill games kept the same formula with each new addition to the series, they'd get really boring.

I think this will be a good game just like the old Silent Hill games. It was said that the game is gonna make the player avoid combat whenever it is possible, retrieving the classic survivor horror elemment. Also, there will be a lot of places and extras to explore, not the old places, I mean, we need some changes without taking the essence of the game, and I think that Downpour is gonna make it.
All you moaners out there moaning about how Silent Hill is getting too 'watered down'. Get a life. Look at how many Resident Evil games there are.. Silent Hill has been quite conservative with how many titles they've made and to be honest the standard has been pretty damn consistent(especially compared to RE) Sure 1-4 are arguably the best of the series but, and this is a big but, Homecoming, SM and O all had their charm and individual story to tell. I for one think this game is gonna be epic!
@drraygun So Pyramid Head's three sides correlates with the conflicting struggles of James; the desire of sex, well being, and regret (he tried to stop his desire of sex and well being from killing Mary.) - And that's my point. Pyramid Head had a greater meaning than just some 'boogieman' lol - I can see that people want Pyramid head to make another appearance, but unless it was James, it would not fit the bill.

Oh and if they fuck it up by putting ten filters of static, blur, white noise and all kinds of crap Ill also be mighty pissed! It doesnt add anything but blindness for me when they do that. You want to hide monsters than use fog and darkness like the old days. I know that would require alot of thinking on their part. They should look at the old days of silent hill 2 to see what they did right.

Whatever the case I hope they get rid of the annoying outdated save system (9 save points ughhh!!) of homecoming. It was almost as bad as having to use a fuckin ribbon in the typewriter ala resident evil..

so is this SH entry from a diff studio, again? the escaped convict premise seems neat, but the franchise hit a rutt after 2 and the original creators have better things to do than pigeon hold themselves.

Great, another unneccesary, out of place love interest. I guess I'm just being cynical but it looks pretty obvious from this. The convict and the policewoman. It's not like that hasn't been done a thousand times before right? What is it about love interests that makes game developers think every protagonist absolutely has to have one. The only SH game where the whole love thing has been interesting to watch was in 2 with James and his wife and she wasn't even alive at the time.

@TheButcher123100 Yes, I liked SH1 very mush, it felt like I was reading a book, I like video games more when it feels like I am reading a book, the whole idea of making Harry the main character was good, but at the same time, it didn't make any sense because he never handled a gun before... and how could he have the guts to shoot without regrets, I am NOT saying SH1 sucked, I was saying that it didn't make sense an amateur who never had any military or police training could handled a gun

I'm sick of people whining about Akira Yamaoka not being the composer for the score of this game. Don't get me wrong, I too love his music but it is not this that makes Silent Hill, Shattered Memories featured his work and it was a bad game i.m.o. (At least it is the only one in the series that never played again after finished it). Let's wait until we have our hands on this game and after having played it then we can give a valid opinion. I hope this one doesn't turns into a dissapointment.

@AstianBravesoul I see what your saying, but at least the developers are trying to give us something new to play with in the Silent Hill universe. The same repetitive concept over and over, game after game, would just get boring. The series needs to evolve, and that's exactly what it's done. I just hope the game isn't a copy of Alan Wake, since that was completely dire.

Now, don't get me wrong, i'm sure this Daniel Licht guy is a great composer... but I don't think he can write a song that's as haunting lyrical and deeply disturbing/beautiful as 'Room of Angels' It's too bad Akira didn't come back. Well... at least he gave us that new tune from Silent Hill the Movie before he walked away.

This game has potential! you can only hold 1 weapon at a time! your weapons can break! different outcomes depending on your choices, even the clothes you decide to change into!
YES - SH 1-3 are the holy grail! but every other release, from console to arcade, is still exciting, if you don't think so, then what the hell are you doing here? until the genre turns into Resident Evil type game, SH is very much alive! like the Beatles, it's still cool to hear them being covered 50 years later, respect!

@TheBloodswordsman Dead Space was not horror in the slightest, at least not proper horror. The first 3, maybe 4 encounters were scary, but then it did those same things for the rest of the game. Horror needs variety. It needs to keep you on your toes.

If anyone cares, the music isn't done by the series original music composer, Akira Yamaoka, but instead is done by Daniel Licht. He's the composer for DEXTER, and a few horror flicks like Children of the Corn and Hellraiser.

after i read an article on this game I thought it sounded a lot better than what this trailer made it out to look like. the fact that they're bringing back fixed camera angles and also mixing it with the over the shoulder camera angles that they used in Homecoming and Shattered Memories is pretty awesome.
though the fact that Akira Yamaoka left and the music is now done by that Dexter guy is a little disappointing (Daniel Licht does great music, but so far it sounds like Goosebumps music)

if the older team liked the fans that much they wouldnt have run off and make another team would they. so you cant blame konami for the reason why the new ones arent that good but konami has got some of the art designers to help a new game developer to make this so all in all i think this will be the best silent hill this generations due to the fact they are making it so its like silent hill 2 makes it even more of a good game so dont judge

-the town is so large that you can use a subway system to travel between focal points
-sidequests
-avoid fights when possible, better to deliver incapacitating blows and run away
-boss fights with quicktime events
-water plays a huge part in the game, bizarre water effects like what looks like an upside down river flowing across a ceiling is described
-prominent locations in the older installments like schools and hospitals will not return
-no weapon inventory

Silent Hill is one of my favourite series. But if I don't like one of the games (I didn't like Shattered Memories for instance) I just shrug it off and enjoy the rest of the storylines.
They're fun games. Why do people have to spoil things for themselves by whining? If Silent Hill games kept the same formula with each new addition to the series, they'd get really boring.
I'm looking forward to the new game.

I think this will be a good game just like the old Silent Hill games. It was said that the game is gonna make the player avoid combat whenever it is possible, retrieving the classic survivor horror elemment. Also, there will be a lot of places and extras to explore, not the old places, I mean, we need some changes without taking the essence of the game, and I think that Downpour is gonna make it.

All you moaners out there moaning about how Silent Hill is getting too 'watered down'. Get a life. Look at how many Resident Evil games there are.. Silent Hill has been quite conservative with how many titles they've made and to be honest the standard has been pretty damn consistent(especially compared to RE) Sure 1-4 are arguably the best of the series but, and this is a big but, Homecoming, SM and O all had their charm and individual story to tell. I for one think this game is gonna be epic!

@drraygun So Pyramid Head's three sides correlates with the conflicting struggles of James; the desire of sex, well being, and regret (he tried to stop his desire of sex and well being from killing Mary.) - And that's my point. Pyramid Head had a greater meaning than just some 'boogieman' lol - I can see that people want Pyramid head to make another appearance, but unless it was James, it would not fit the bill.
