  • i like how you cants see anything at the beginning of the ride

  • The part that always makes me laugh is the simulated blasting at the end of the ride. There's one little anachronism there. When they start "blasting" alarm bells and flashing warning signs start going off. I don't think they had flashing warning signs back in the 1880s.

  • Wow i wonder if i lived back then with these guys working in mines....

  • my friend went on htis and said it was boring!

  • 6 people got thrown off the ride for smoking.

  • hell yeah i love the way the chlorine smells on the log ride.

  • a.k.a. one of the most boring rides at Knotts. My school took us to Knott's in the fourth grade to see the mission dioramas set up there. They got us all excited by telling us that they would let us get on a ride and just when we got pumped they took us on this. Well, at least we got to rest our feet.

  • @jpena412

Its not meant to make you shit bricks dude

Its made for the little kids, although they should have let you go on a "scarier" ride with parental permission :(

  • Did he say that there is a "glory hole" at 2:13? Because if he did, I want to go on this ride.

  • I was a ride operator for the Calico Mine Ride back in the early 70's. Thank you for posting this video. It was fun and for the most part all the riders were kind and helped keep the theme going. I just pray the new company keeps it going. Too much of the old Knott's is gone!

  • @bubbie1960

I rode this last after rattling my brain on all the hardcore coasters. The "calico gloryhole" line made me laugh so damn hard, despite it being a kid's ride it was pretty memorable. Thanks, operator, for making it memorably hammy and cheesy as hell.

  • Where can I find this ride?

  • @BunkeyTheMunkey1 its on knotts berry farm! i went there when i was 16 now im 18 :)!

  • the dolls are so creepy!!!!!!!!!

  • I went on this with 9 other friends yesterday...it was fun because of people's reactions to stuff :3

  • The smell of this ride and the Pirates of the Caribbean should be bottled.

  • i went on this i waited in the line for about 3 minutes and went in the firt guy you see with a smile freaked me out cause of his eyes and i was too close to him

  • @8010cookie There's always Mystery Mine from Dollywood, and also The Flooded Mine from Silver Dollar City:)

  • if they are stupid enough to destroy this ride then i will get really mad REALLY MAD

  • This ride operator was doing such a great job. It seems like some of the riders didn't appreciate his efforts.

    :-(

  • ARE there any ride like this anywhere!? I love big thunder mountain and this one BUT is there any othe cool MINE rides!??????

  • Handing off the mic to a guest to say "All Aboard"? We do that sometimes when we see a very energetic guest or one we feel "stands out". It's so hard to choose though...

  • @RocketRodder Last year my 3 year old son a the time was so excited to get on he brought a small flash light. They got the chance to say "All Aboard". He loves trains so much I started to build a train table, video is posted on youtube titled - 8x4 Ho Scale Train Table Layout -

  • Thanks for this video!! I have not taken this ride in 44 years :0). It was my favorite ride of ALL times (I was only 10).

  • those are some creepy looking hard rock miners, i think they've been working past their 12 hour shifts. i love that odd organ music from the cave, i hope they never get rid of this ride.

  • there is some historicall background behind this ride, walter knott, founder of the park, first worked as a mine worker at the King silver mine in the real Calico mountains near barstow, back in 1906. His uncle owned the mine. as for the real Calico mine, no gold was ever mined there, only Borax.

  • This ride creeps me out even when it's not Halloween... those creepy mannequins *shudder*

  • I wish someone had a video of the Haunted Shack. That was removed in 2000. :(

  • @theaznfishy ahhh i know!!..that shack was fucken trippy haha ..especially on halloween haunt!!

  • @theaznfishy That's just tragic right there. D-:<

  • I don't know why...but I have the urge to steal a mine cart from that place -_-

I know... I KNOW stealing is bad, but dont you know how cool it qould be to put that in the yard ^^

  • When we go to knotts we always go on this ride first it's my favorite!

  • they went the wrong way......to dinomite

  • thats Cool!

  • the real ghost town out where i live is way better i love that town, the sights, sounds, smells, and just the good feeling of good old fashon wild west red blooded american history.

  • @5150sickboi Got some news for ya pally. The ghost town at Knott's IS a real ghost town of sorts. Walter Knott had it imported, piece by piece from Prescott Arizona, and other ghost towns. :P

If you're talking like a "real working" ghost town out in the middle of nowhere, though.... then I must agree. Even then though they are tourist attractions... D:

  • 0:28 owned

  • I remember going on this ride in the middle of August...about 98 degrees.

But as soon as you went into the mine ...it gets to about 65 degrees ...it was a nice effect.

  • the trains are actually powered by electricity, I've been working there since march. once those run out of power you're pretty much screwed till someone comes and pushes the train

  • @omited You're half right....

They are battery powered initially, but the rest is taken care of by gravity. You should know this, working there. It's in the SOP and SEP Manuals. It was also in the TEST you "passed" if you were indeed certified to run that ride... ;)

  • Thank you for this vid. I love this ride and have since the first time I rode it, in the 1970's.

Glad they have not closed it.

  • I keep thinking some shit will pop out somewhere...I think I've gone to Knott's Scary Farm too much. :P

  • LoL, I'm the same way.

  • No, not diesel. Actually it's just gravity. All the driver does is ride the brake to control the speed, then halfway through a chain pulls you up the big hill to the top of the ride so you can coast down to the station.

It's really like the old Thompson Scenic Railway, just a slow roller coaster!

  • @computervet. Wow I had no idea that's how the ride was. I've ridden it many times. I'm a big rail fan and that makes the ride even better!

  • @computervet there's electricity used at some places, though.

  • @computervet yep ! hot boiling steaming mud is a reality in my life ! i always said it ran on gravity .

  • desil locomtoive?

  • my favorite ride, this is what started my interest in splukin. as history says, walter knott's uncle owned the great big Silver King mine in the real calico town, walter worked for him around 190?-1918 thats why this huge mining display was built in 1969.

  • anybody remember a part in the ride when there some rocks falling hitting a steel mine chute damn it was loud

  • um, sorry to bother you guys, but what are you talking about?

  • her stupid feathered cut really compliments her fat face haha what are the chances she likes country music? thumbs up if youre disgusted by fat trash. thumbs down if youre a fatty yourself lol

  • don't forget her Bret "Hitman" Hart glasses

  • I want the cavern music on cd!

  • I fell a bit un easy

They already took down Kingdom of the Dinosaurs and a few other rides that were in the park since the begining. Will the log ride and Calico Mine have the same fate? i hope not <3

  • I LOVE THE SMELL OF THE INSIDE

    x]

  • me too! It smells amazing!

  • @athenasushie haha yeah it smells NOSTALGIC!

  • @athenasushie what dose it smell like in there

  • honestly this ride is a bit creepy...

  • No. YOU'RE a complete loser.... You're 39 and all you have to do is make fun of people on You Tube. Great job. Loser.

  • "I called the film a "Classic" and the driver "complete"."

    ........what?

  • Maybe because the fat cow who refused is a total bitch.

  • You got it! The poor driver did his job but the woman and daughter are total A-Holes! This is why you gotta love these hard working minimum wage employees who care enough to do their very best in the face of constant public indifference.

  • I was going to reply with a positive,"I agree with you"..but then after reading your first comment, I have come to the conclusion that you may be a smart ass.

  • You need to be more forgiving....This is a fun, claustrophobic ride and name calling is in poor taste. I forgive your insult. Blessings......

  • i agree. typical fat whale - low self esteem so she has to be a total sourpuss to other people. hey fatties its your own fault youre fat and you deserve to be made fun of for letting your body get into that disgusting condition. i love all the excuses they have too its hilarious, like they had nothing to do with it. your outside appearance reflects whats inside. when i see fat people i see greedy, self absorbed, bitter, lazy, slow, unclean piles of meat and fat. go ahead give me thumbs down

  • so true

  • LMAO poetry in a funniest way

  • You know what though.. all this fatty talk is funny and all but I just realized something.. There was a lil girl sitting behind that fat lady. you can see her stand up at the end of the video. I think the Train driver was talking to the little girl and the lady was telling her to say it but she refused. LOL but i can see how this could of been easily misunderstood. I know I did. that little girl is completely hidden. I know I did. LOL

  • This from an asshole calling themselves "eatinginfants"

It's clear that you don't understand anything about biology.

Yer just an emotionally insecure little wiener criticizing others in the vain hope that they won't see you as the helpless little prick that you are.

  • I went to Knott's a week ago, and all the lines were really damn short. It was waesome. Because it was my birthday.

  • thanks, but i'm not a "dude" ;) i know they use part of it in big thunder mountain. i understand part of the pack mule ride is part of big thunder also. one of the old trains is on the island that the rivers of america "flow" around...but the actual mine train ride at disneyland is gone....

  • oh, you mean the Mine Train through Natures Wonderland. I remember that ride, I just loved it. Pure classicness. I just wish the word "Thrillseeker" was never created, so we could keep having more and more dark rides, like the Kingdom of the Dinosaurs

  • love this ride as well! looks like they might have added more figures---may be wrong, it's been awhile since i rode it. they always seemed so chincy next to disney, but i think that's part of their charm. best place to ride? last car! then you really move around! this is similar to the old mine train at disneyland, too bad they got rid of it. great ride.

  • the ride isnt gone dude

  • ive been its a bit creepy

  • I love this ride.

  • I used to work this ride along with Timber Mountain Log Ride, Haunted Shack and the Ghost Town and Calico Railroad. I wish I had been a video guy back in those days - the behind-the-scenes stuff inside the mountains is pretty incredible. Thanks for posting this. Good to see they're still sticking to the spiel!

  • THANKS!! I rode that ride for the first time in 1963. We lived near by and back when Knott's was free to get in we would go often. It is one of my all time favorite rides even after having gone to parks across the US. I hope to get back sometime but am 3000 miles away now. Thanks for the ride!!

  • my sister took my mom on this ride when i was there 1 day and i was so f***ing pissed at her when she came off because she didn't tell me, and, i STILL hate her to this day for taking my mom without me. I hate my sister. j/k i forgave her.

  • this was knotts..... third (?) ride i do believe..... ghost rider was the first

  • Ghost rider didn;t come in until the '90's. this ride was one of Mr. Knott's first ones. (I WORKED there for 10 yrs.)

  • was the Kingdom of the Dinosaurs one of the origional rides at Knotts bassetbaby67

  • Kingdom of the Dinosaurs came in the 1980's. That use to be the Knott's Beary Tales before it was Kingdom of the Dinosaurs.

  • @FlipVolton hhahaha no,ghost rider came out in 99'

  • this ride was ok

  • What video camera did you shoot this with? Most videos of dark rides are practically unviewable, but yours came out quite well.

  • This was a JVC GR-AXM210, filmed onto compact VHS.

  • he's good.. it's like he actually cares about the original script, even if he does derive from it a little (as in 80 million rather than 30)!!!!! i don't know who you are mr calico mine train diver, but you're my hero of the day.. you even mentioned the blind fish (can you see them, thats ok they cant see you either) and you stuck to the speil over the bridge.. line for line.. great job!!!! ,

  • i love that ride. its one of my top ten knotts rides

  • i rode on that 11 years ago lol that was the best ride ever

  • the ride is so much fun!

especially the ending when you like rush out the mountain

  • This is ride is so awesome. There really isn't anything like ot anywhere else.

  • I remember this ride...

My mom was trying to get me on here, and I asked if there were any animatronics on it cause I'm kinda scared of those. (automonotophobia) She said no, so I trusted her and went on, turned out she lied...

  • Wildwood, NJ has an abandoned (since Sept. 1998) mine ride coaster dark ride on the former Hunt's Pier 1957-1985 new owner 1986-1990/Dinosaur Beach 1996-1998. Morey's Pier owns it now and wants to restore it. Golden Nugget Mine Ride built 1960. This ride looks like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad but slow.

  • Amazing ride! great video!

  • The mine ride is so much fun.
