can we see our family members after our death.Chances are we may be in a different part of the heaven(if we do manage to get there) and others different part

While it looks like the 'chariot of time'has not yet reached the ultimate destination=ie to be with Him; this song has been a popular funeral song for decades.Perhaps we are singing along with the departed's soul as he or she is fast approaching their final destination?!
Whatever the writer intended, it's a beautiful song.
Also, we DO NOT need to sing along the departed soul. Because it has reached it's destination as soon as it leaves this mortal body. It doesn't take days or hours to reach it's final destination which could be either Heaven or Hell. There is NO in between place. Heaven if the person accepted Jesus as his personal savior and led a holy life. If not Hell is the final place. Hope you understand.
Does the departed soul reach heaven as soon as the body dies?Or does it wait for the second coming of the Saviour?
I do not want to start a religious debate as a)my knowledge about these complicated matters is limited and b) I was only trying to seek an explanation for singing this song during funerals!
Either way, thanks for your explanation-you may very well be right!
Writer of this song never intended to be a funeral song. If you carefully study the words this song is about a person who is alive and running towards his/her eternal home.
Very good song, singing perfect. when I hear this song, remembering the funerals in our family.

Brother Alex,
I was just mentioning the intend of the writer.
