In my opinion, Larry Graham should have cut many more songs of this style. As a singer from the old streetcorner days, when vocals were as important as instrumental work, I do appreciate the quality of Larry's voice, especially in this song, which even today evokes an emotional reaction from me. Hard times in certain aspects of one's life can cause that, and it's all too true that each one of us is "one in a million" in this vastly populated world. He just brought it home for some of us.
Every time I hear this song it takes me back to when I started dating my husband.
Every night after work we would go to the local bar and he would always put this song on. At first I really didn't pay attention to it. Then one night he took me into his arms and said... "
Now I understand why things in my life have happen. Because You are my one in a million. I will never leave you and I will always be by your side."
Perfection. . .absolute perfection. So glad I was of age when this music was being played on the AM stations. I was schooled in the art of R&B by artists like Larry Graham. ;-)
There is a dude, middle age-ish, that does this one in the karaoke bars on the North side of Chicago. He's awesome. Has everyone just mesmerized and feeling it.

I sing a lot, every week. Did it with a band years ago. Now Church & karaoke & sometimes in my favorite black clubs. I LOVE THIS SONG. When I sing it I like the look in black folks eyes & the head nods they give me when I sing that high float line at the end. Singing a lot of Orbison for decades gave me that high float.

@mrlungs1 Hi there Check out "Graham Central Station" Larry's band, and he is also Sly Stone's cousin, and bass player in The Family Stone..then played bass for Prince !!!

I was a young Marine stationed at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. when i heard this song for the first time in my life, my partner 's wife sent the tape to him and we took it out to one of the clubs, you talk about some slow danceing that night, damn those were some good times.
Maritza0108 I can understand how he could feel this way about our God because once you really know him, you realize just how much he does love us and it makes a lot of sense. He's been interviewed by show hosts on national TV and has confirmed that this is so. However, "youtube" was not around in 1980.

I agree 100% with taker3k. Their is nothing like the old classic music to put a smile on your face every time. I'm 52 and I will never get tired of hearing the Great Classic's. Too all those who know good music, enjoy and have a Happy Life!!

soon as i hear that a oneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee in a millionnnnnnnnnnnnnnn chanceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee offfffff a lifetimeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee i get chills all over!!!
I want to see the PROOF that he did this song for the Jehovah's Witnesses besides what THEY have to say about it in their propaganda magazine. I want to see it in his own words. SHOW ME THE PROOF! Post the link here. If I'm wrong I will admit it, however grudgingly.

I agree 100% with taker3k. Their is nothing like the old classic music to put a smile on your face every time. I'm 52 and I will never get tired of hearing the Great Classic's. Too all those who know good music, enjoy and have a Happy Life!!

I want to see the PROOF that he did this song for the Jehovah's Witnesses besides what THEY have to say about it in their propaganda magazine. I want to see it in his own words. SHOW ME THE PROOF! Post the link here. If I'm wrong I will admit it, however grudgingly.
