  • Oh wow.... I love this movie... Grew up with it

  • Excellent! Thank you so much for posting

  • i like little bo peep! she's so cute because she's the same actress who played alice in the 1933 alice in wonderland.

  • merry xmas!!!!!

  • a true classic!! i love it.......thanks for posting

  • Completely different NRA—an anti-Depression Federal agency.

  • my brother use to watch this movie every year when we were younger - brings back memories.

  • I don't remember Mother Goose at the beginning there. Must've cut it down or something.

  • 0:18 I guess the NRA supplied all the guns for the wooden soldiers?

  • I'm 14 now and I even remember watching this on chirstmas when i was younger. Hahaa where does the time go.?

  • I've watched this since I was a little kid. We would go to my grammy's house and watch this one every Thanksgiving afternoon, including Miracle on 42nd Street. Then we would have turkey and all the trimmings. Great mems.

  • this is one of the greatest Christmas movies ever, and I so wish someone would just post a clip of Mother Goose singing this song. It's so beautiful and so innocent. Everything about this movie was just incredible. Laurel & Hardy are legends that will never be forgotten.

  • Thank you! I watched this every year on Thanksgiving when I was growing up in NYC!

  • @SteveBrant55 on channel 11! I've been watching it every morning since I was a kid as well. Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Slapstick comedy at its best.

  • Thankyou...was my favorite movie growing up

  • You are the greatest for posting this. Thank you so much. I sent the link to my son. He's 21 and never got to see it.

  • saw this movie with my dad..I can see him next to me now..I couldnt watch after he died so now I see if I could..I cryed and creyed..but thank you for a flood of memories..all good

  • Stfu watch it or die

  • This film contains so much NOSTALGIA!

  • Thanks so much! It's my favorite, too.

  • Why, oh, why are the clips so flippin' short?!?!? Why didn't you make them longer? These short clips ruin the pacing, thank you very much!! Otherwise a trippy look back at my most formative holiday movie. The cat with the fiddle and the mouse (how they got that monkey to wear that mask without ripping it off is beyond me) is really a surreal moment, it freaked me out man!!!!

  • wait a sec- the correct title for this is babes in toyland

  • @pillowcase97 Actually, it isn't. This is the original 1934 version. Not the remake.

  • 1276epr, I'm familiar with only one. He played a policeman in the original "Assault On Precinct 13". He was the one who stepped outside than was shot at the beginning of the assault. He was dressed as an indian named "Scar" in the John Wayne movie "The Searchers" but you can clearly make out his features.

  • @mikemc41 thanks I'll look that Assault movie up. I have read he portrayed Indians several times, he apparently had dark features like Tyrone Power. I have seen a pic from that John Wayne movie, it is just hard to correlate that appearance with Barnaby. I have read that he appeared at Sons of the Desert meetings for the LA Chapter, I wish somebody would post a pic of him from that.

  • @mikemc41 ps some site called LaurelandHardyForum here on YouTube has posted some kind of interview or lecture of his from the 1980s.

  • If you were asked who was the 2 youngest cast members you probably would say Charlotte Henry (Bo Peep) and Felix Knight (Tom Tom) You'd only be partially right It was Charlotte Henry and Henry Brandon! He was only 21 years old. His year of birth was 1912 and the film was completed before his 22nd birthday in 1934 while in contrast Florence Roberts (The Widow Peep) was born the same year The Civil War started (1861) and was 73 years old (52 years older than Brandon) during filming.....

  • @mikemc41 do you know of any pictures of Brandon without makeup on?

  • LOL! thank you so much for posting....one of my favorite of all time. <3

  • Thanks so much

  • I hate colorization of B&W films-

but I <3 Laurel and Hardy!

    Thanks for posting!

  • As a 1934 maquette or warmup, a CLOSE rival to MGM's other, 1939 (more honored*) tour de force tragicomic fairytale fantasy musical film "The Wizard of Oz" ! !

*As more sophisticated, not maudlin camp; avoiding the bathos of naive slapstick aimed at a more kiddie audience.

  • @JudgeJulieLit <----your reply sucks. speak english next time. LOL

  • @as1000if08 As you LOL, tree sloth, may you fall and land on a dictionary and learn to open it.

(And expand your vocabulary beyond trite done-to-death text acronyms and vulgar dead metaphors.)

In it you'll find my three French terms, anglicized. Start marching . . . . & Merry Christmas !

  • Very underrated.

  • I LOVE this movie, and I never get tired of watching it. I'm so glad that it's now available on DVD.

  • caught the end of this movie yesterday! one of my faves!

  • Love this movie! All time CLASSIC!

  • Stan and Ollie will save the day

  • This is the BEST copy I've ever seen!! I'd use to watch it every Thanks Giving since the 1960's. My Father was a Projectionist, and he had it once. But it was black & white and missing parts due to spicing.

  • and the one that was at the library when I was young was in black and white so it's a joy seeing it in color and "digitally remastered"

  • Jesus H. Christ! It's on Youtube!!! Thank you, you've made me relive my childhood. I haven't seen this in over 12 years!

@LoveableKeng no you are not alone, I also seen this too when I was young. This would sometimes be the only film I would rent at the library.

  • Laurel and Hardy do such a wonderful job in this movie. Really cute and look forward to watching it every year.

  • Bi the way I am only a 12 yr old who luvs it can't wait happy thanksgiving

  • @ozzyrock123 & Merry Marching Wooden Soldier Christmas 2u 4 the next 60 to 100 years ! ! ! ! ! !

  • OMG my dad was telling me about this film he said that it was pretty food 4 a 1934 movie this thanksgiving will be the 1st time I ever c it I sooooo can't wait to start yet another tradition

  • I'm probably the only 19yr old that seen this 1934 film during my young years. I enjoyed this film. I saw this on like channel 45 with my grandmother who still is living today thankfully. We both laughed while watching this film though my grandmother is old and doesn't really understand English despite that she still enjoyed the comedy. I'm Hmong by the way. Thank you very much. I love this film and for years I searched for this film and now I finally got to watch this again. Thank you again.

  • Everyone from NYC remembers this one on WPIX very well. :-D

  • I love this movie....I always watched it every year at Thanksgiving and on Christmas day in New York City when it came on channel 11 (WPIX) since I was about 10 up to 14 years old. THE BEST HOLIDAY MOVIE EVER!!!!!

  • First Time Seening This On Youtube, I remember this movie being on the wgn every december, but i never got to watch it, because a friend of mine told me that it wasn't any good, so i'm going to watch this on here to judge for myself if i can watch this on wgn this coming december.

  • "If fell out the window"

  • Awesome movie! Thanks for the upload

  • this movie is like comfort food. its part of our childhood when all things were fanciful and good and innocent........

  • @hell0hkitty Ah. That's a very interesting statement. I think you're spot on. I suppose that I do use films like other people might use food for comfort. Nice observation. i never thought of it that way. :)

  • It is called "Babes in Toyland", after the Operetta, but when Disney re made it as Babes in Toyland, (with Ray Bolger), it got re-named March of the Wooden Soldiers for copyright reasons to stop confusion. Funnily enough Disney were involved with this original as well, supplying the Three Pigs, and technical help to Hal Roach.

  • this is t he best film ever i swear to god and mom life i rent this movie from library before and it was funny and i just forget they name and i try to find in google and idid it so yeah thank you for post this video

  • Channel 11 here in NY shows this every Thanksgiving. I'll always love this film.

  • @cannonballkid Channel 11 in NYC? We get that in CT, and I always remember seeing it, but not in the past few years. But, yeah. I always associate this movie with Thanksgiving. :)

  • @TenderTrap86 Yes but these days they show it super early like 9' whereas way back when it used to come on at noon. Same here this the thanksgiving day parade its a tradition lol

  • Mr.Roach had a different plot for this film..he wanted L&H to play "Simple Simon & The Pieman".Who try to stop a evil spider..who turns himself into a evil man and try to turn all of the citizens of "Toyland"into hateful bigots.A script..that Stan knew is not funny.

  • I watch this movie every Christmas! it is my family tradition! You are so cool to put this up...I missed seeing it Christmas 2009

  • Iam 23 years old. I used to watch this at my grandmother's house! thank you for sharing this great film! things this good find their way to you, no matter how old you are. This film will live forever.

  • I remember seeing this as a kid here in the UK , I've not seen it for years.I'm sure Stan plays a game of 'Knur and Spell' a game very popular in industrial Northern England especially parts of Yorkshire and Lancashire.

I wonder why its not shown maybe tv rights mores the pity. Thanks for showing.

  • "Babes in Toyland" is the name of the movie, the "march" is the name of the musical score. It was produced in Black and White, I have never seen the colorized version! Thank You For Posting this distant memory!

  • @abacab987 i was just about to ask if this had been colourised cos i don't know if i'm the only one but the process is a bit dodgy if you ask me,

  • I use to watch this all the time at my grandmothers house. It's a classic

  • @IHS7. LOL. man we come from da same background.

  • I love this movie! Thanks for posting it!

  • i loved this movie! been wanting to see it.. thanxs! i need to get this on dvd

  • Thank you for this upload it was great fun to see it again after so long.

  • why don't thy show this anymore? Too dated? It is a classic on Channel 11 in NY-just like the Yule Log. Speaking of it-where the HELL is the Yule Log?

  • @sinistralwing I am watching it! NOW!

  • im watching it now too!!!

  • i remember eating clam chowder and watching this with my grandma every christmas

  • Thank You ***** : )

  • I echo Gaiden322's sentiments,

It's a crime and a shame that PIX isn't showing March of the Wooden Soldiers this year. Why do these people keep doing these things to us??

Many thanks and appreciation to people like Overimaginated who help keep our memories alive!

  • I was so disappointed also, my Thanksgiving was not the same. I waited and waited and no March of The Wooden soldiers. Guess I 'll have to buy the tape and watch it next year

  • I live in PA and they never play it here. I would have to go to New York to watch it lol...think I just need to purchase this movie. Thanksgiving is not thanksgiving without it...

  • im very disappointed in this year of not showing this classic usually it comes on channel 11 in NJ. they got stupid football movies on for the giants which suck. thanks man for uploading this classic now my family and i can watch it again this year

  • I picked this up on dvd for $5...best deal ever.

  • omg thank you so for uploading this movie...my all time fav. Thanks giving day classic ^_^ *hugs* it sucks that it's not showing this year in NY unless you have cable or Verizon Fios tv :) thank you for making my Thanksgiving Day special once again.

  • I was so disappointed also, my Thanksgiving was not the same. I waited and waited and no March of The Wooden soldiers. Guess I 'll have to buy the tape and watch it next year

  • This brought me back to my childhood! It just wasn't thanksgiving with out "March Of The Wooden Soilders" Thank you for posting this video. :)

  • A friend of mine who was formally from Queens loves to watch this and suggested that I watch it too. I did it and I loved it.

I looked for it this year but I was saddened when I couldn't find it on my dvr! Thanks for uploading this. :D

  • Perfect for Thanksgiving!

  • New York's Channel 11 would show this movie every Thanksgiving morning; however, this year they're showing football movies instead because the Giants/Broncos game will be shown because it is the NFL Network game. I'm very upset with this.

  • Thanks for posting this. It brings back beautiful childhood memores of my aunts, uncles and cousins all together in Queens, NY for a wonderful Italian Thanksgiving. What great memories!

  • I love this movie, thanks again for posting this on here. I see this movie has always been on tv on thanksgiving days for the past 25 years. This movie brings back so many memories. I like the add on they play at the end with Laurel and hardy on a ghost ship lol.

  • Oh man i haven't seen this in such a long, long time. Absolutly brilliant movie and one of my all time favs, great posting...

  • Dear Explorer, I'm Sorry..I've made a mistake..the name

    of the character actor..who played"Mr.Silas Barnaby"in the

    film was Henry(Kleinbach)Brandon..not Harry Brandon.

  • actually, you didn't. You were correct. He also went by the name Harry Brandon. :)

  • Dear Explorer, The name of the character actor..Who played"M.Silas Barnaby" in the film was Henry(Kleinbach)Barndon..not

    Harry Brandon.

  • Dear 78RPMScott, "The Thanksgiving Day Jamborees"..Which were Thanksgiving Day Parties for the kids from St.Barnabas house. Were taped and aired on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC

    from November,1960 to November,1970.

  • Dear 78RPMScott, "Capt.Jack"McCarthy,"Officer"/"Police Chief Joe"Bolton

and Ms.Carol Corbett didn't just screen cartoons on

Thanksgiving Day..they gave a party for the kids from

St.Barnabas House on"The Thanksgiving Day Jamborees".

  • thank you so much for posting this....this was such a classic growing up <3

  • this first scene, up until "Toyland..", was always cut from the TV version..

  • I still cant understand what mother goose is singing in the beginning.

  • She's singing Toyland from the Victor Herbert operetta. You should be able to google the lyrics..."when you've grown up my dears; And are as old as I, You'll often ponder on the years that rolled so swiftly by.......Toyland: once you pass its borders, you can n'er return again." I always thought it was sort of a sad song...(but a wonderfully happy movie! :)

  • I saw this every year with my dad . . . the television version was edited and was missing many of these wonderful scenes. The sound was terrible as well. I'm glad to see a restoration of it. It looks great!

  • i luvv dis movie

  • Absolute classic. The B/W & Color DVD is one of the best U.S. imports I have.

  • Seperate from TV,this film should be played in movie theaters once a year from thanksgiving week til just shy of the new year. We owe it to pass this great film that has so many enriched lessons that get you through the ups and downs in life, and messages of traditional values of old school that should be shared with generations to come.

  • I make sure everyone watches this on Christmas day, even if they've seen it 100 times. A 1960's NYC tradition with the YULE LOG. You have to buy this on dvd and give it out as gifts for Thanksgiving or Christmas so the new generation wont forget it. And make sure many little kids watch it ,it sticks in there memory. Its our duty to pass this movie down, so many more generations can feel the same as we did years ago.

  • @1952kid That gosh darn yule log-OY! But,its what we had in the NY of the 60s !

  • @1952kid My Grandpa was a New Yorker too, and he showed me and my brothers Laurel and Hardy videos, and this one. I'm happy I got to see them. I'm only 20 years old, and these videos are nostalgic for me and great to see again.

  • @1952kid im 13 i love this show it comes on channel 11 on christmas and thanksgiving in NYC i have been watching this since i was little

  • You have no ideah...Thank you soooooooo much!!!! Thank you thank you thank you for posting this :-)...***tears up*** :-)

  • Would you believe Harry Brandon was only 22 when he played Barnaby?

  • looked for it for years! thanks man or woman?! thanks!

  • This movie was and still remains a gem. If people watch this movie at least once a month, getting them through the ups and downs in their lives each and everyday, work hard, follow the right path for family, friends,etc..., society would take a major turn for the better.

  • Just recently I played bo peep in the play babes in toyland ps ihave a crush on the boy playing tom tom LOLOLOL

  • LOL. At least you don't have a crash on Barnaby.LOL

  • newrochellephoenix...couldn't agree with you more and now that i live in mass i don't get to see it;(....a classic that brings lots of childhood memories.

  • you are my hero...i love you

  • Does this movie go by another name? I am confused.

  • Yeah, it also goes by the name 'Babes in Toyland' - but I believe there's another movie out with the same name ...

  • @Overimaginated there are several films called Babes in Toyland... the original was a 1903 broadway musical and there's this film, a 61 Disney film and about a half a dozen others at least.

  • @Overimaginated They renamed it (I think) when the Disney version was released in 1961.

  • The Operetta was "Babes in Toyland" by Victor Herbert, which for copyright reasons and the re-write by Hal Roach and Stan Laurel, went under the title "March of the Wooden Soldiers" in the US.

Later Disney bought the rights, and re-made it as "Babes in Toyland" about 1960, with Ray Bolger. This one has a different storyline. Disney was involved in the Hal Roach version, allowing the "Three Little Pigs" characters from the Disney cartoon to be used, and providing technical support to Hal Roach.

  • Very nice colourisation, and is appropriate as Hal Roach had thought of using Technicolor, but only did tests. He lost interest after disagreements with Stan Laurel, and leaving the project to him. Film was rarely shown on the UK, especially after the Disney version came out in the 50's with a ban on the showing of the older version, due to copyright claims.

  • The restored this years ago and colorized it and they did a good job. There's a new dvd out now with an even better transfer I read.

  • Just beautiful. And includes the intro of Mother Goose singing, which was often cut in TV prints. This is a Thanksgiving tradition at our house. Does anyone remember this being on WPIX in the 70's? During commercial breaks, they had some sort of contest by Child World or Toys R Us(crossword puzzles or something) and you filled in the answers and sent them in for a chance to win a Christmas shopping spree!

  • I grew up watching this movie.

It was always on at Thanksgiving.

March of the Wooden Soldiers is a classic.

    I love it.

Thank you for sharing it with us.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • I do remember this movie on WPIX channel 11 on Thanksgiving weekend. I also remember them playing this movie even on Christmas Day in the morning. Brings back alot of memories thanks for posting the movie

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill

My dad showed it to me ever thanksgiving since I was little, and now I love it on my own :3 He grew up with it, so it feels like an honor to enjoy it to. I'm kinda sad they broke that tradition by making it air at another time.

  • Happy Thanksgiving! Yes, let the holidays begin. WPIX memories! And then after this I recall Capt. Jack McCarthy with cartoons.

  • Indeed-WPIX,channel 11s showing this was the unofficial start of the holiday season in the greater NewYork area. This and the yule log.

  • I LOVE YOU!!! You SAVED my Thanksgiving! I have been watching this since 1957 EVERY Thanksgiving -- then they stopped running it on tv (which has been so disappointing!) BUT then I bought the video... (which i misplaced this year!) ANYway, thank you for this... now I can cook my turnips with happiness! haha. Happy Thanksgiving!!!! You're the BEST!

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!1 This is one of my favorite movies.. when it is on the tv, u kno the holidays are here... THANKS for posting it

  • Thanks for posting this vid!

  • I wonder how come they stop just showing this on t.v 4 some years now!!!!BEEN watching since a kid, thanks 4 the post..=)

  • i lost this casset a long time ago so thanks for posting it!!

  • this is one of my favorite movies...cant wait to see it on thanksgiving

  • I grew up with this movie too! And I am 19!

  • Growing up in the 70s, Thanksgiving would not be complete without this on WPIX (it was not WB11 back then) AND ALSO King Kong on WOR.

  • lol.i watch this every thanksgiving on channel 11.i live in ny and they made the wb11 the cw11 not 2 long before thanksgiving last year.so i swore if they didn't show this i was gonna make a petition.lol.but they showed it and i also purchased it on dvd in case it ever does get taken off tv.

  • Exactly! We would be watching this classic as the turkey and stuffing was in the oven!! (and of course could not have this interfer with dinner!!) The tradition lives on:)

  • i use to watch this every Thanksgiving when i was younger. thanks for posting!

  • 1934

  • @Overimaginated wow! i've been wondering about that for a long time. thanks for sharing!!! its my favorite movie!

  • @Overimaginated So that's 76 years. Right?

  • Awesome ... a classic growing up that yes remains still!

  • Thanks for posting this. I grew up watching this as well. I miss a lot of the classics.
