Thanks k9h.... Was Dick Button the first to land a triple loop in competition? I seem to remember hearing that he did, but do not know where or when this took place. SOMEBODY here will know. k9h, I so enjoy and appreciate these postings.
@ja3399 Yes, it was the first triple jump.........landed at 1952 Olympics.....Oslo as I recall.....glad you are connecting with all the greats of skating......best wishes
I'm watching Dick Button on tv just now, and I can't recognize these younger selves. It's hard to piece together the old grandfather with the middle aged teacher and the young athlete.
Thanks for sharing. This was so much fun to watch.
The Paley Center just posted a blog about Dick Button, calling him the Grand Old Man of the Olympics. He and Tab Hunter starred in a 1958 TV musical version of Hans Brinker. Would love to get a copy of that but apparently you can only see it at archives including the one at the Paley aka The Museum of Television & Radio.
Thank you for sharing this video, I hadn't seen it before. He will always be my favorite commenator, and I hope one day someone will create an official release of his competitive programs in their entirety, I've always wanted to see them.
Thanks, great video! Mr Button has earned the right to be a tad critical of the skaters who come after him, with all he contributed to the sport. May they follow in his innovative footsteps (always keeping their toes pointed of course, and ladies, watch those leg positions on your spirals and your arm positions on your laybacks, LOL)

He's US ice skating's granddaddy, and I totally mean that as a compliment. I learned so much about the sport just listening to his commentary.
