An unusual perspecive-and recording from behind the orchestra gives this an idea of what it must be like to be a player .If it had been recorded from microphones in front, the horn wouldn't have been so loud and there would have been less "echo" effect of the violin. He's enjoying this -the conducting /playing with the orchestra at the start -and his beautiful virtuoso work later.Bravo ,Mr Kennedy !!
i agree. his performance w/ the who on, "baba o rielly" is amazing. he brought the house down and upstaged the who....ha ha ha. this guy is freakin' great. if you haven't seen it, check it out here on you tube.
@ivan96148"THis man gifted so generously by God" Not really, just a wonderful union of genetics, hard work and determination, to put it down to a gift from god belittles what goes into a wonderful musician, to say god was good Nigel Kennedy is the same as saying god was bad to any thalidomide victim!
@violinmusicfan many critics said about beethoven symphonies that the wind instruments are too loud but I like that very much....and because of that I think that is a taste thing.....maybe Kennedy likes the brass instrument loud.
thanks for this special video

like in old times the concertino leads the orchestra
alfafc 1 year ago 4
@alfafc As far as I know, that was only practiced in the Baroque period. I don't know why he would have done that.
A soloist facing their instrument away from the audience with an ensemble that size just seems like a bad idea.
Anyone know why he would have done this?
TheJmills39 1 year ago
@TheJmills39 He faces toward the orchestra perhaps because he's conducting, in a sense. Don't know.
sxmadrid 1 year ago
@TheJmills39 he is facing orchestra only when he is playing the first violin part, but faces the audience when returning to play the solo

Superb performance...but why is that brass instuments so dominant?!
aweitzer1 2 years ago
@aweitzer1 The video was recorded behind the orchestra, so the audience might have heard a much more level sound.
