  • which pixel is the battery?

  • This is a j hook it looks like a j

    Haha he sounded like butthead

  • It can damage the battery if you put it on cement for a long period time. You wouldn't want it to sit for a week or longer. But just putting it on the cement for like he did won't hurt it. This is from my father because he works on tractors (he also knows this form before) but it wont hurt to sit it down. If you don't think that is right than you can show me some info on that.

  • I hope next week he will tell us how to crank our cars :)

  • i have a 98 buick my battery is set in the car not like that. i still can't get this shit out!!

  • thanm you bery much!

  • My 99 Grand Prix battery doesn't connect like that at all :(

  • wow Youtube...I'm in a bit of a hurry trying to change my battery and the dumb advertisement in the beginning really slows thing down...thanks!!! thanks a lot!!!

  • Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  • This is a J-Hook. It likes your mother's ass. lol

  • I thought if you replace the battery on some cars the engine computer can get messed up. is that true?

  • cool.useful video. imma try it after this. thanks a lot.

  • I wasnt born yesterday thank you!

  • i have a question..why do we have to remove the negative battery cable first? and put it in last?

i will appreciate the responses guys!

  • @boxing1023 When measuring voltage, we take the ground as a potential of 0 for reference. In truth, the ideal 0 would be a vacuum with 0 positive and negative charges in it. This is not the case of the earth. What happens is that in reality, there is a slight to significant positive charge on the ground (if measured with a reference like outer space, physically impossible perimeter for most daily activity) due to the air and clouds usually negative charge pulling the positive charge to surface.

  • @toasterder (continued) as such, you require more positive potential to pull electrons from the ground, than negative potential to discharge into the ground, happening with the last electrode handled, which is what potentially happens when your body closes the circuit with the last terminal handled with the ground. (Risk increases with wet hands). Regardless, the risk is low (like discharging a weak static charge as a complete circuit is not established). Look up the whys on positive lightning

  • 9 people took the negative battery cable off last.

  • Today Were gonna Change How to Battery at 0:06

  • @Jinovanni He said "change OUT A battery"

  • my battery looks different in my truck. the connections are on the back of the battery and look different....help me

  • @andrewparsons95 Dude, possitive(+, red) and negative(-, black) it'll be on there somewhere. A monkey with one nut could figure it out!

  • @andrewparsons95 you have side terminals... take the bolts that screw into the battery (if it is a side terminal) and then just take the negative off first then the positive.

  • My J hook looks like an L hook. Is it broken?

  • Also, remember to clean any sludge off of your connectors and terminals before installing the new battery since excessive build up can cause the connection be faulty and your car might not start as a result.

  • my car does not have a nut to loosen

  • @CRF250ALLDAY Maybe you're the nut that needs to loosen?

  • Crap... What if you take the positive connector off first..?

  • @VISIONStudios7 Then you'll open a wormhole into an unknow possibly evil dimension!

  • not all batterys have a clip for the ground cable

  • thanks for the help!

  • are maintenance-free batteries(never have to fill up with water) better than regular batteries, performance and life time wise?

  • @64bitgfx there the same and you never fill a battery with just water you have to use distilled water you can by it in a gallon at a grocey store

  • Wow! This was truly amazing. Didn't know about it before.Thank you for sharing.

  • this is a j hook. it looks like a j. it lives in this little hole

  • For hassle-free used car purchase, visit the World of Wheels in Des Moines.

  • @Erichballa Electrocution. Need I say more?

  • the j hook lives in a hole right here

  • thank you for posting, with the most important comment from the very beginning: remove the negative [black] lead cable first from the dead battery, replace with new battery, and reconnect the negative lead cable last to the new battery.

  • Thanks for helping me gain man points.

  • This really helped me. I have to remove my battery tomorrow to replace the radiator coolant line

  • Thats a J Hook.

  • wat happens if i take positive off first? just wounderin

  • this is a j hook, it looks like a j

  • i fucking hate toyota commercials

  • god fucking dammit i hate expertvilliage

  • Thanks for a good review! This video is the only one that mentions which battery post to take off first (negative) and put on first (positive). Would be nice to explain why.

  • Be sure to observe the following order of work!

Failure to comply with the correct sequence can lead to triggering squib disconnector batteries and electrical damage to the car.

If the terminal of the battery mounted on the positive findings closely enough:

    - Disconnect the negative cable first-hand, from the negative terminal of the battery.

    - Then disconnect the positive cable-needle-positive terminals of the battery.

  • simple, if you put the ground on first, your battery is grounded, and as you put on the positive cable, it will spark all over the place, if it's not grounded, it wont spark :) simple hot and cold

  • thank you very much

im 15 and i wana learn mechanics

  • Thanks for showing this on a subaru! I needed to remove the battery to get to my left side low beam headlight.

  • Cheers for the video, just helped me remove & replace my first car battery :D

  • why didn't they show how to put the new one in..crud

  • I know right? I was just going to do the same steps in reverse, but that wouldn't make much sense now would it?

  • it's in their next video

  • @timsb2004, cant you just do it in reverse to put a new one in?

  • not all batteries have that clip. and it doesn't really matter what cable you unhook first

  • these videos are the best thing on youtube.. i know nothing about vehicles, these videos have helped me fix so many issues on it! thanks :D

  • Count on battery hold downs to be different on all cars.

I don't know why he ackowledged that the locator clip is specific to the car model but seemed to stay with the impression that every application will have a J-hook type hold down bracket.

  • I love how he's like. "This is a J hook, it looks like a J. The J hook lives in a hole..." I feel like I'm watching a nature program or something.

  • great, now the car has no battery!

  • what if i remove the +/- cables in the wrong order and install them the wrong way? will i get shocked?

  • no you will just probably blow some fuses

  • you cant type for shit. does that mean you shouldnt try to post on youtube?

  • He should have said that you NEVER set a battery on cement. Old or new. It can ruin it.

  • Old Wife's Tale BTW

  • @3wheeler016 i have always been told to put the battery on cardboard

  • @3wheeler016 you obviously just believe everything someone tells you, why would this even be true at all?

  • @3wheeler016 Yes and eating spinach will make you strong just like Popeye.

  • This is not the case any more. Years ago, yes, but no longer

  • @3wheeler016 You don't know what you're talking about. Stop the misinformation. This claim about batteries and concrete is just as bogus as that whole Iraq-has-WMDs debacle. Misinformation.

  • For the sake of science, please thumbs down @3wheeler016's comment. There is NO reason not to put a battery on cement.

  • My terminals are rusted to hell, and same with the nuts holding the mounting bracket on. Any suggestions? =/

  • this was super helpful

  • not all battery housing is the same, some u gotta struggle getting the battery out, some U GET FUCKIN FIRED FOR MESSING UP FUCK U ALL AUTOMOTIVE ASSWHOLES!!! IM SICK OF THIS SHIT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Whoa!?! What u need is a nice back rub! Take a deep breath - count to 10 or 100 whatever works for u. Remember it is just the dyslexia gene that is speaking. Forgive him Lord. Jesus understands. This is an excellent example of what Adam & Eve handed down to mankind....imperfection & God...I don't no how to replace a battery. Myself? I haven't figured it out yet. My soninlaw took the battery away so I don't know the original set up. So, the red end goes with the red cable rite?

  • Are you going to be ok?

  • don't mess with the j-hooks living hole

  • thank you! I'm going to replace my battery tomorrow, and this is just the info I needed. I didn't know about the negative first off/last on deal

  • très bien

  • QUESTION.... You know that hole that the j-hook lives in, do dwarfs live in there too??

  • Great video.. words in the beginning messed me up a bit.. but thanks!

  • all car batteries dont have those plastic clips, jus subarus

  • haha i got it on a cavalier dumbazz

  • cool I understand now, now Im ready to apply a job at sears! >:D

  • you're fucking halarious dude!!!

i died laughing at this comment!!!!

    Sears mechanics are so useless.

  • ya woow good job explaining things

  • thanks mate that really helped me

  • he talks like a lawer in big case

  • hes proving murder by battery removal "j-hooks"

  • nice work

  • very clear video very nice

  • I watched this video and now I'm gonna change my car battery in 5 minutes.

  • Thanks. I need to take my battery in to be tested and possibly charged, so this showed me how to get it out of the car.

  • his hands are really shaky lol

  • There are no 'J' hooks in my Merc A Class!! I want J hooks!!!!

  • I DO TOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I have no J hooks in my 02 Honda Accord LX Coupe either, and I feel left out : (

I suck in life lol fail

  • "This is a J-Hook. It looks like a J"

    BEST LINE EVER HAHA

  • cheers for this video. very helpful!

  • thx im a 13 year old that has built a ford truck from scratch and all i need to do is install a new battery,THNX A MILLION

  • what are j-hooks again? :-P

  • I don't KNOW AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    lawl

  • he looks nervous.

  • "this is a j hook looks like a j"

  • This is good. Of course, not every battery is gonna use the 10mm, although the majority of forgien cars do. Also the battery hold downs vary from on manufactuer to the next.

  • Why must the negative pole allways go off first?

  • Not positive, but I'm pretty sure the current from the battery goes from Negative to positive. So I guess you might get shocked or something if you went for the positive one first.

  • How would no current travel to current? lol..

Its because your negitive isnt grounded...or else you coudl spark up.

  • Because the car/truck is assumed to be negative earthed(grounded) i.e. the negative pole is connected to the vehicle's body. Should one take off the positive first, there is a risk the spanner (wrench) could make contact with the body, create an arc, possibly welding the spanner to the body!

Older UK cars (up to the early 60's, maybe even the 70's) were positive earthed (grounded). In this case, the positive pole would be removed first.

  • Thank you very much

  • wow thanks this is good thanks

  • For the life of me I couldn't figure out where to put the j-hooks. Thanks a MILLION. Five stars!
