My problem on my sister's 04 saturn is either switch will not operate the passenger widow. Can it be that it's the driver's side switch that's the problem.
I am going to replace the motor on a 2001 Windstar. There is a BIG warning in the instructions to make sure to secure the sector gear before removing the motor or "serious injury can result". Can you elaborate???
the gear is spring loaded!!!! if you remove the motor without securing the arm of the regulator, it is like a bear trap and will take your fingers off!!! i use two vice grips to clamp the arm down and then remove the spring before removing the motor.
hello, my rear windows dont close all the way down, it has like a stopper or something that prevents it from going all the way down , do u know how i could make my windows go all the way down?
the rear windows may have a different shape to them and that is why they do not go all the way down. the rear door may go over the rear wheel well and that is why the glass does not go all the way down. i would not attempt to change anything, you may end up costing yourself a ton of money in the end.
I have a 1990 LS400 Lexus. The rear right window goes down but not up. I connected the switch”and disconnected the “motor switch” to measure the voltage. Turned the key to ON position and I pressed the switch down (to lower the window) in which the meter measured 12v. But when I pressed the “window switch” up (to bring the window up) the meter did not measure any voltage (which explains why the window does not go up). Any clue what could be the problem and how to fix it?
The passenger side window on my 2001 trans am wont go up only down =(!, I tried replacing the motor and before installing it i checked it and it STILL only works with the down button, the driver side switch for the passenger window won't do squat, any ideas of what it could be?
Thank You. I've now got a good general appreciation and some confidence to try and fix my girlfriend's old Honda. Window will only come up to half way and is out of alignment.
My regulator motor hanged while the window is up and I can't access these two polts release the glass from the regulator and I cant force it down with hand.... What can I do, car is Nubira 2
you have to cut the cables to the regulator on both sides to release the stress of the glass sill. if this does not work, you can drill 2 access holes in the upper part of the door panel to access the screws, has to be done sometimes.
HI,, i HAVE A BUICK CENTURY 1998 AND THE GLASSES DOESN'T RAISE OR DOWN SO WHEN I PUSH THE BUTTON FOR MY WINDOW, I HEAR A BIZZZ BUT NOTHING WORK SO IF I OPEN MY DOORS, i CAN RAISE OR DOWN MY WINDOWS!!, NEED TO KNOW REPLACE OR REPARE,. excuse my english.
in the 98 buicks, you may still have the ribbon type regulator, these are almost obsolete, or you may have the cable driven regulator, either way you will want to replace the regulator.
Hi crose2573, my passenger side window works up and down but in an inconsistent speed. it goes pretty slow when up. what is the solution? should i take the panel off and lube the track? or its with the motor?
Lubing the track will definitely help. The brushes in the motor could be going bad. If lubing the track does not help, you may be able to find someone to replace the brushes in the motor cheaper than buying a new motor.
hi, my pass. side window goes down but doesn't come up, i don't hear any sound when i try to move the glass up, i tried using both of the switch from pass. side and driver's side (master switch) but same thing happens. any advice? thanks.
you would have to test for voltage at the motor plug. If you get voltage at the motor plug (12V), then the switches are good and you will have to replace the motor, more than likely the brushes have worn out in the motor. If you do not get voltage at the motor plug, test directly from the master switch, then from the passenger switch, This should isolate which switch has to be replaced.
have an 01 Maxda MPV. Window goes down about 3-4 inches then it makes a grinding noise and won't go any further. Can raise the window and close it. Before I start exploring for the problem can you point me in the right direction?
sounds like the regulator is going bad. the cable is bound up in the spool or one of the pulleys has broken. try autozone for the regulator, comes with lifetime warranty. if they do not have it in stock, they can order it for next day delivery.
I have a 2000 Buick Lesabre and all four of the windows are broken, two of which, when you press down the switch, it only clicks, the other two you can hear the motor activating, but nothing happens. All four windows can be pushed down by hand. I've taken one of the doors apart that I could hear the motor activating on and I noticed that the cable is EXTREMELY tight on the bottom of the motor, but very loose on the top and when I activate the motor, more cable comes out the top, if that makes...
It definately sound like the regulators. NAPA Auto parts will be the best place to get the regulators, make sure that you bring one in for them to match up, there are two different model regulators for your vehicle.
My PT Cruiser windows will work fine for months and then one day I go out to my car and one of the windows will have fallen down. This happens to all of them at various times. Powering up may fix them temporarily. Have taken it to the dealer twice now and it still does it. Sometimes does it when powering up or down in normal use. Any ideas?
The only way that I see this being possible, is that the motor gear is slipping in the regulator spool for the cables. The spool is plastic, so it may have a worn gear on it. The motor has an internal plastic gear, that may have a worn spot in it.
Great video. I have a 99 olds silhoulette and my drivers window goes up and down about a quarter of the way. Ans when it goes up, it goes up its seems to me off track. How can I fix it?
hi i have a saturn sc2 1999 and i can hear my passenger window motor makin noises and i can tell its drawing power but the window does not budge and i tryed holdin the button and moving the window but again nothing does that sound like a regulator?
The best thing to do is remove the panel and inspect the regulator for broken cables or clips. If the glass does not move freely, there may be a stripped gear in the motor, in this case you would hear the motor run and nothing happens. You may be able to have it rebuilt or get a lifetime warranty motor from autozone fairly cheap.
Ok thanks for the diagnostic review that has helped me alot, I have no idea if it was a switch problem or the window. What would happen to my window is that it goes down good but its hard to come up and sometimes it wont come up at all and would make noises.
If you have the steel regulator, most likely the motor is burning out. you can have them rebuilt fairly cheap. also check for the lift spring that is suppose to be on the back of the regulator, without this the motors burn out faster.
So at first i thought it was my motor that was bad so i bought a new one and replaced the old. when i turn the switch so the window can go up the gear would move that correct way but when i try turning the switch so that the gear would move the other way nothing happens!! so whats the problem you think??
Great Vid, So ur saying if i can hear my motor running and I am able to move the glass up and down means the REGULATOR is bad that is my situation. Plz help
is it possible to change the gear in the window motor?

How do I get the rear door panel of a 2001 toyota highlander off so I can see why the window dropped?
kurtg777 1 year ago
ay crose, i fixed my power window once cuz the cable snapped from the regulator and it snapped again, do you know why it keeps snapping?
nerdy808critters 1 year ago
could be from the window seals drying out and grabbing the glass, or it just may be a poor design in the regulator, it does happen.

that would be a bad switch or relay. see if your switch has the built in relays or seperate relays for the window operation.

Sounds like it is the master switch. Yours should be located on the center console if i am correct.

...any sense at all. Also, when I use the switch, halfway when it [should be going up] is turning, the motor reverses direction.
This is for just one of the messed up windows
silverrose93 2 years ago
Anything you can think of? I hope I can just replace a part and not the entire apparatus.
silverrose93 2 years ago
You should not have to replace the motor, just the regulator.
crose2573 2 years ago
What is happening is that the cable is actually twisted in the spool that the motor is attached too.

Where are the relays? I replaced the switch and hear nothing. None of the 4 windows work.
desertmule57 2 years ago
Depends on the vehicle where the relays will be. Possible locations could be:
Black box located in the drivers door.
Under the steering column in a black box.
In or on the fuse panel either in the drivers kick panel or the passengers kick panel.
Under the hood in the main relay box.
Check your owners manual for relay locations.

Check the window sill attachments. Usually these wear out. You can find the replacement parts at NAPA, usually can repair under $20
